Amiibo Discussion Thread 2: I Got 99 Pre-orders But A Rosalina Ain't One

I kind of wonder if Pokemon will be the testing franchise for Amiibo cards. It'd be a good fit and they could be absolutely cruel by putting them into blind packs to force a TCG-like thing all over again.

That'd be amusing. I'm thinking they might go for that, too. I mean, from the Mons alone, that's at least 700 of them; Megas and Alternate Formes has to put it near, if not at, 800. Plus, some trainers are popular enough for people to want merchandise, like N, Misty, or (Thanks to having interesting redesigns rather than being generic stoic dudes) Archie & Maxie. If they all get Amiibo, it's going to be at least a decade and a half, and that's only if they pump out 50-some a year, and everyone has their own favorites. It's not like Mario, where you could cover everyone worthwhile in 5 waves at most, and that's including playable-enemies like Dry Bones and all 7 Koopalings as a wave of their own; if someone wants, say, Golurk, they'll probably be out of luck, but a card'd be cheaper than a figurine.

The way I see it, it'd be like the e-Reader cards for Ruby & Sapphire; the cards allowed you to save a Lv. 50 Team to a house in Mossdeep, allowing for interesting challenges/rematches with major characters, to get new, card-exclusive berries, and there was one Nintendo Power-exclusive that triggered the Eon Ticket event. I could see Amiibo Cards doing trainers, berries, and events like these, (XY really had me feeling like they were working on a Z Version already, anyway), plus maybe gift a Pokemon off of a card once per file.

I also have to wonder; anyone I know that has bought Pokemon cards in the past 5 years bought them because they play the game competitively (I still like it myself, but it's been awhile since I bought any new cards), but as a kid, everyone I knew just got them for the pictures. I wonder if doing Amiibo cards would eat up any of the TCG's sales because it'd offer more for those who just want the cards standalone...

Wouldn't be surprised if they were finally phasing out the Wave 1 commons, especially if they're getting a new version in March.

Sounds pretty likely. Haven't been seeing as many Marios or Peaches in the 2nd half of January at Target or Walmart. Reporting in from Pennsylvania

So I played hyrule warriors for the first time last night with my friend. It's pretty cool. No engrossing story or anything, just dumb fun like dynasty warriors (and that's not a bad thing). Plus he just got the Sheik amiibo and unlocked a pretty awesome harp for her!

Yeah, if you want the story head to Samurai Warriors, or dynasty. I love them, as they're fun and you learn a little history while you're at it. ;o

Hyrule Warriors is tons of fun though, they did good with the characters and the Amiibo support is nice.

Would you recommend picking it up? I've been debating it for a very long time

Welp. Ready for Wave 3.

Thanks to Toki for the Villager hook up! Now I wait for WFT (sometime in early february it's supposed to be delivered) and the hunt for Marth continues.

After that I will probably stick to the amiibos I can get reliably and want the most.

.....ya know, it just hit me. If we got a Link & Cap. Falcon outfit for the Miis in MK8 to go with the fact there was a Zelda & F-Zero track & vehicle in the DLC, what do you think are the chances Nintendo will update with more costumes for DLC Pack 2 & have one based on Villager due to there being two Animal Crossing characters and then a track based on it?

The thought of trying to find a Rosalina right now, i.e. had I not pre-ordered, is just stress I don't need. So I've pre-ordered Shulk from amazon.jp; it's your in hands now, Tenso.

A little wishful thinking, but not out of the realm of possibilities for sure. Can't wait for those 4 new courses. May still seems too far off.

I jumped down the Amiibo rabbit hole today. What's funny is that it was my wife who suggested it after I told her what it did in Hyrule Warriors. She likes to watch that game. So we said dang, let's get a Link amiibo to see how it works in this game.

We decided to get anything Mario or Zelda-related. We bought Mario, Peach, and Zelda in our first stop (They also had DK and Yoshi, but we didn't get those). Made a couple extra stops looking for Link. We finally found him at Best Buy. One store had a Villager and a Wii Fit Trainer. Gamestops seemed to have a good amount of Kirbys and Diddys, but I didn't see them at Wal Mart, Best Buy or Target. Tons of Luigis, tons of Yoshis, Good bit of both Princesses out there.

Surprisingly fun game. Tons of content as well and lots of playing time. I like the Amiibo support as well. I have Link, Zelda and Sheik and they all get powered up weapons, and Link's Amiibo unlocks a new one. I would definitely suggest getting the game, totally worth it. And this is from a person who hasn't played a Dynasty game in nearly 15 years.

Opened 3 more of my amiibos just now. Felt good.

They look so awesome up close. The quality in these figures is worth the money.

Once wave 3-4 come out, im gonna buy the Detolf and get some more cool figures.

I imagine Nintendo would keep making Kirby considering he doesn't have any 2nd versions coming out & in a little over 2 weeks is Rainbow Curse, which uses said amiibo.

Hopefully Dedede & Meta Knight won't be rare for that reason.

Just ordered Mega Man, Sonic, Ike, Lucario, and Sheik from Amazon fr. About $17 each shipped not bad. Getting them just in case I cant get em here in the US.

Also, if anyone has a US Villager sealed and selling PM me. Or if you're going to open it anyways, I can give you a EU Villager + any other figure (like Pit, CF, Mac, etc) and you give me the US Villager. It's the last figure I need to complete 1 & 2!

That's right probably should pick up a Kirby for Rainbow Curse, although I love Meta Knight's ability in the game a little better! Plus Meta-Kirby. lol

Just went in to EB to check my Rosalina pre-orders. They didn't even have my order details or SKU. No shipment info. These are set to release in three days. Totally not getting her but that's fine.

Where are you from? If you're in the US and walked into a store and saw Villager and WFT I might recommend going back lol

I'm in Kennesaw, GA. I thought Marth was the rare one.

Holy smokes, that is at least four times the size of any amiibo displays I saw today.
Wft, villager, and marth have all been sold out for ages almost everywhere in the us.they announced that they are releasing more Marths later because a game that uses his Amiibo it's coming out, but nothing like that had been announced for the other two. If you ever expect to want them, or feel particularly generous towards a friend who might (or a gaffer who's reimburse you for your trouble), you should grab those the first chance you get.

I thought it was a lot of fun and seemed like it had a lot of content. Couch co op was especially fun since its so rare now. I'll probably pick it up this week 😁

Wow! Rainbow Curse and an amiibo for $40 is a great deal. So jealous! (I already got the game and the amiibo, so I guess it's a moot point, haha.)

Second time I checked Walmart. The shelves still have not been updated. Not checking this place out again

Yeah I don't think any walmarts have restocked or ever got wave 2. Doubt we'll see 3 in stores. My store back home still has like 20 Samus. Someone went crazy on the order there.

I think it's TRU where if you pre-order Rainbow Curse, you get a free Kirby amiibo.

Edit: Yup.

I went into TRU today and they had the shelving for Toon Link but none of them were in stock.

Plus, I asked about that pre-order thing and they didn't have the cards yet. :/
