Project Scissors: NightCry (Clock Tower Spiritual Successor) PC Kickstarter ($300k)

Exactly, which is why I was upset about it.

We need more Japanese games here.

Yikes. When I went to bed earlier I was hopeful for this, but that trending site is making me feel like this is more or less hopeless :\ Hopefully this gets out in the news more, because I find it ridiculous that a headline like "Silent Hill bro. + The Grudge bro. + Clock Tower bro make game" isn't doing a better job of selling this.

It's really too early to make any kind of judgment on the success or failure of this Kickstarter. Give it a round of media attention first and then we'll have a clearer picture.

Attaching a mobile version of a game to a kickstarter is a surefire way to kill hype for a lot of would be backers.

At the launch of the KS we were all together, watching the campaign go live and watching intently.

I think Toda-san and Yamane-san blushed when they noticed people were backing just for the music.
Best of luck for the project and the campaign!

It's nice to see the Deadly Premonition engine is getting some use. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Hah, the character models really give off a DP vibe!

But anyway... everyone should back it based off this promising screenshot:

Looks like the start of a porn lol

Here's hoping Monday will show a nice boost. I haven't really followed many kickstarters but I'll be cheering this one on.

With all the people behind this project I'm surprised they even need kickstarter. I mean even the director of "The Grudge" is on board. A movie that is known worldwide and had a 190 Million $ box office result ...

This is a dream game for me. Clock Tower is my favorite horror game of all time, and seeing Scissorman come to PC in a new game with those names behind it is incredible. I really hope this gets funded, and I'll pledge money to it if I find a way to put together the funds.

Come on! I can't believe how little traction this is getting around the web. Here we have an honest return of some j-horror legends and it's getting totally ignored. It's the worst to see the same people who constantly whine about classic survival horror being dead not even give this a look but throw oodles of cash at the latest western indie first person horror amnesia clone.

Would be great if they could somehow get a Youtube celebrity to play an early version, would probably bring in a lot of people. Horror games always seem to work in that format.

They aren't really well known outside of their native country (and even there, with such a huge emphasis shift to mobile, I'd wonder how much pull their names have). Sad to see this KS struggling but I can't say I'm shocked.

I see they moved Mikami's message to potential backers up to the top of the page, was on the bottom when I backed it. I wonder what plans Playism has to help push this even further. With PAX South coming to a close, should see some enthusiast press taking notice of it this week with any luck.

Well, at least the game's going to get released either way. Just... not on PC if the Kickstarter fails.

Feels bad that this won't likely happen (as a HUGE fan of Clock Tower 2, especially) on PC. Oh well, at least, the mobile version is happening regardless, or so they say. If they do well there, though, there may be a chance to bring it back to PC later.

They threw out a little more info on the story for the game in update #2:

Hi everyone!

We spent a little time talking about the initial premise of NightCry when we first started the Kickstarter, but today we wanted to go into a little more depth into the story.

While Takashi Shimizu’s short film revealed a bit about the origins about the evil of the game, today we’re shedding light on the setting and story that starts the game.

The Story:

The story of NightCry takes place on the Oceanus, a premium class cruiser liner that began service in 2003. Weighing 47050 tonnes, and able to accommodate up to 790 passengers, the Oceanus is manned by a crew of 514. It is one of the oldest model cruiser liners owned and managed by Goldhorn Cruise Line. The class of rooms passengers stay in are separated by floor, and the quality of service is clearly different.

This cruise begins from Venezia, Italy, making a stop at Southampton, England, then finally crossing the Atlantic en route for the Caribbean Islands.

The heroine and her friends are college students from North America that had fieldwork training in the Aegean islands, making their trip back on this cruise liner.

That, of course, is just the beginning. Things turn dark soon enough, and the nightmare begins!

We could go on, but we don’t want to spoil the surprise! There’s so much about NightCry still to reveal, and we can’t wait to share it all with you in our upcoming updates.

Who knows what horrible evil lurks in the shadows of the Oceanus? Do you?

Not super enticing, hope for some more eye-catching updates soon.

Damn. I don't have the money, but it's disappointing to see this doing so poorly so far. I'm in for the $18 early bird tier. I'm not a PC gamer and I hope it comes to Vita.

Backed.

I love the Clock Tower series and I really hope this gets funded! I'm sad, however, to see all the tiers like the screaming, getting your name on the boat, and becoming a NPC are priced so heavily. I honestly wouldn't mind them restarting the Kickstarter to bring down some of the prices, rearranging the tiers, and/or combining some of the tiers. That might help it gain some more traction.

This Kickstarter, with all it's huge tiers, feels more like they're hoping a 1%er will pick them up instead of a community of fans helping out the project. Am I alone in feeling that? 300k Goal on top of that seems like a bit much for just a beautified PC port but I digress.

Anyways, I hope for the best for this project!

This could be a really close one. I hope they get some more high-profile press/backers.

We can only hope. If the Grisaia Trilogy can get 400k+ and counting I thought that this had a fair chance, seems like the VR niche market is much bigger than the horror niche market... :(

I would back this if the footage gave me more confidence. Don't like the look of the footage released so far, and I really dislike the lead character's appearance.

This thread does serve as a reminder that I regret selling my copy of Haunting Ground.

It has been doing 10k each day. If it would just continue doing that, i'd be a very happy man.
Of course I expect it to slow down at some point (hopefully not too soon), but then there's also a great push at the end of a lot of kickstarter campaigns.
This one will make my month a stressful one.

As I guessed, Clock Tower name doesn't mean much anymore, and it's real rough looking so.. I'm not surprised it is struggling in the early days.

I'll try to see if I can get a bit of word out to some smaller horror communities, it won't really... Push it over the edge, but here's hoping.

So happy about this project's existence. Clock Tower is a niche horror title even in the horror gaming community, one that I am a huge fan of (beat the SNES version recently, finally), and the staff working on this game is GREAT. So many lovely talents on this project. All the best to the team and to our lovely GAFfer Trin on this project! Can't wait.

I'm also doubting it's going to come anywhere close to its goal...

At least the mobile version is being made regardless, but maybe leading with Ito and Yamane's involvement might have produced a better initial reaction.
