It's seriously like the mere mention of the word "Sarkeesian" activates some pathological part of the brain in some people. They completely lose their shit and act completely insane without any sense of perspective.

Yeah fair enough - i think that future episode however would give more weight to her message to show that she is trying to be objective and unbiased and also appreciate good developers as well as highlighting ones who are part of the problem.

One sided because she only points fingers at how specific things, sometimes taken out of context, in specific video games, somehow create, supplement, or encourage misogyny or violence. They Don't. And it's never about the positives, and never about games that do have powerful heroes that aren't sexualized (like original metroid for example). I'm not saying she doesn't make some good observations but, a "this is bad this is good" checklist is a one sided way of looking at things.
I doubt many (probably) don't know much about her let alone care what Anita is doing. Twitter is full of 'trolls' that get kicks out of tweeting random abuse to different public figures. It's sad enough that Anita gets abuse but this isn't just one person getting it. Twitter is basically a stage for faceless people to 'troll' others over and over and 99% of the time get away with it. It's about time it started getting so flak.

Is it? Gaming's riddled through with toxic bullshit. NeoGAF is a big tent for gaming. Figures we'd be just as riddled through with toxic bullshit as much as anyone else; the main difference is we have very active moderating that jumps on it quickly.
Like i've said in a few posts on the last few pages, a few examples you find objectionable doesn't invalidate her point, and there is an upcoming video on women done well in games
Also she's not saying they "create, supplement, or encourage misogyny or violence" she is saying we need to be aware they're tropes, if you watched the first 20 seconds of any of her videos she says this, that we can still enjoy things while being critical of them, if we can't all accept that there is no hope for any of us

I disagree with the majority of what she says, and don't really like her videos at all. She presents a lot of slanted arguments and takes a lot of stuff out of context, among other issues.
But yeah, this is fucking disgusting. These people need serious help. So goddamn embarrassing. For everyone. I can't understand how people are this demented and vile.
I was scrolling through, thinking wow that's a lot of assholes, in one week? Then I realized I ha only reached the end of the first DAY. My jaw literally dropped.
I haven't really been following gamergate but damn. I am speechless. I had no idea it was this extreme.

I have met people in real life with the mentality like that. It is a weird twisted logic where someone makes more money than you for whatever reason, and that is EXACTLY the threshhold from where you should just accept whatever gets thrown at you.

For example, how many vile hate tweets has Tom Brady gotten this week in the wake of "deflategate"? Probably more than femfreq. Though probably more death threats than rape threats in his case, but who knows. Not minimizing THIS situation but the point is the internet is a cesspool of hate of every kind.
I hope she doesn't take any of it to heart. The statements are so over the top and idiotic that the scumbags doing it come off almost goofy in a way. Hopefully she at this point can take a step back and laugh at how absurd all this bullshit it, it least a little. Rather than taking it to heart and letting it affect her.

I think Anita gets just as much right as she does wrong.
Are women well represented in gaming? No, not particularly. But her Watch Dogs and GTA examples were both incredibly problematic. GTA V never forces you to do anything evil to women, its a game about choice, a game which cynically attacks everything wrong with American culture. I believe its representation of prostitution is equally as cynical as its attack on the right wing, Facebook or whatever other facets of US society Rockstar target.
In Watch Dogs women do get attacked, but you can stop their attacker before they get assaulted, you don't have to wait for a crime to be committed against them in order to trigger a chase/mission.
Her 'damsel in distress' point in games like AC where women are held hostage briefly and then killed to make the game 'gritty' is a totally fair point though. The issue
Is that the majority of games don't characterise women enough or take them seriously enough in terms of their game world or narrative.
Regardless of whether some of her points are moot, I agree with her overall sentiment, and its a massive shame that so many people tarnish this art form by preaching such hate.
It must take a lot to be able to wake up to a torrent of hideous hate every morning and still carry on doing what you believe in.
Nobody comes at Call of Duty like that.
