Square Enix teasing new PS4 title - Project Code Z [It's Minna de Spelunker Z, F2P]

So the rule of thumb is that if it has a teaser website, the announcement will be terrible?
If it's a teaser website then it's a small project.

I don't think many people here played the games they announced via websites...

Although the TWEWY port was pretty good until they dropped support for it.

I think it'll be a third-person MOBA featuring FF characters aka Dissidia Online.
I'm pretty sure they already have a Lord of Vermillion MOBA over in Japan.

did any of those have teaser websites
last one i remember was for that bancho phone game having a crossover with racing lagoon
Final Fantasy VII troll announcement didn't have a teaser website. :P

Well, the previous teaser/countdown websites never showed the hardware. This time though, they made sure that everyone knew that they're announcing a PS4 game.

Ohh how cute!

Can someone please post the FFXIII throught FFXII: LR PS3/360splits from NPD? I know they are out there...

EDIT (not sure how accurate, from Wiki):
2009 PS3, 360 Final Fantasy XIII:
4.95 million on PS3
1.95 Million Xbox 360 .
6.9 million worldwide

2011 PS3, 360 Final Fantasy XIII-2:
2.23million PS3,
0.64million Xbox360
2.86 million worldwide

Those are high sales numbers. This is exactly what I mean. Japan's numbers can die for all MS cares.

A game like Secret of Mana is not going to sell well for MS. There's a reason that MS got Japanese devs on board early on the 360's lifecycle and everyone started running away half way into the generation. MS sales are going to pick up in what way? They've been bombing everywhere not named US and UK.

They've already started winning sales in US significantly and now have a permanent price cut. They'll get their numbers.

The two consoles share very similar architecture and porting is seemingly easier and cheaper than ever. Even by selling little, you can make good returns.

And Project Code Z or whatever seems like a niche game, so that won't be multiplat. I'm saying that SE will likely develop more than just KH and FFXV for big console titles. KH HD is likely coming to PS4 and XBOX One, for one.

I think the base point being shown here is the PS3/360 splits from last gen were huge and they are going to get even worse with PS4/XB1 in NA, especially with a shrinking jrpg market.

Yeah, that's true, but what I'm saying is even a little is good enough for them to profit. It's even more true with how similar the two consoles are this time around.

Its about MS? I thought it was about SE. And these numbers were when the Xbox install base was higher than PS3 if I'm not mistaken, even with that FF sold way much more on Sony's console, that's not including the exclusive rights to advertise that MS had on the game.

It will actually be interesting to see how much both FFXV and KH3 will do, I'm already expecting Type-0 will be a disaster on Xbox One. Since Sony gained the rights to market the game (from what it seems) and the PS4 is ahead of the Xbox One then it might be even worse. Don't know if being Action Rpgs will make a difference.

Games that have a huge target market from the west like KH and mainline FF games will likely be made on the X1. I don't see how SE is going to make money on these piss poor sales and you haven't really explained other than "I hope it happens that way". Where is the audience going to come from other than your massive optimism?

Dropping 150$ in a year helped them sell better in one of the two relevant countries. They're still doing bad in the rest of the world. We will see if KH HD will come, the only reason is to hopefully get some new fans for the upcoming KH3 in a few years. We would need to know how much it costs to port but the horrific sales of Type 0, there is no way they are going to make money. We will see next month when it releases in the west, but I don't see that changing.

It's not about me hoping it's that way. I'll get a PS4 and don't see the need to get an XBOX One.

It's just that returns on a low number of sales should be enough to offset the development costs of porting a game to XBOX One or PS4 based on what we hear from nearly all major publishers. XBOX won't make any headway in Japan, but that doesn't mean SE won't make money on even just the US with some games.

i'm just being dumb
the url for the teaser site is /msz/
mana series z could be something that stands for
or it could be referring to the fact that it's being introduced by M.S.S. Project

We will have to see how these games sell in the US.

The question is in regards to games how many they need to sell. If the sale disparity something like 8:1 for PS4 (probably 20+:1 everywhere but the US), I don't see how that little amount could be enough for these games to break even. The only way I see it is if MS agrees to pay out of their own pocket to lose money just to ensure the small amount of gamers are going to get those games.

If MS would just get it, then PS3 towards the end of its lifecycle, wouldn't be getting these Japanese exclusives. Yet they are. It's only going to get worse for MS in these genres this gen as well.

Do you mean ff13? Thats because ps3 was the one that came with a way into the ff14 beta.

So you're telling me that most bought the Ps3 version cause of FFXIV beta?

I don't really think most bought it for that reason, what about XIII-2 and LR, I think the Ps3 versions sold more than the Xbox and there was no beta or demo involved.

No offense, but Japanese 3rd party publishers look at mostly sales numbers from Japan first before everywhere else.

Why do you think that Tales of Xillia 1 & 2, Symphonia Chronicles, & Zestiria winded up being PS3 exclusive? Because Tales of Vesperia on PS3 over in Japan sold a ton of more copies than the 360 version in both the U.S. & Japan, & that Namco-Bandai realized where most of their audience for the Tales games were.

You're comparing sales potential of something like Tales to something like a big-name SE JRPG.

Tales is lucky to hit 1 million sales worldwide, whereas big game from SE may sell 1 million worldwide just on XBOX One alone. FFXV and KH3 likely will, and that more than enough justifies the cost of porting it over.

Tales isn't the greatest comparison.

FF and KH3 have been discussed to be the exceptions, so are you switching narrative or what? They were never part of the discussion.

New Crystal Chronicles game with multiplayer extending to Vita screens and Sony mobile phones.

Y'all heard it here first.

Edit:
Went looking for Crystal Chronicles art and screens to compare. Found this in the Google Image search results. TIL Google and Gamestop are actively trying to get my hopes up and crush them:

I wonder if this is stock art, because I've seen that exact same crystal design before. Maybe in the Bravely Default artbook? It's driving me crazy so I'll see if I can find it.

Edit: I dunno there are crystals almost identical to that in every 3D Final Fantasy, Bravely Default, Suikoden, JRPG it seems, haha. Still though that picture is reminding of something nearly identical that I can't recall.

you are overestimating the power of x1 to sell 1mil of KH.

That thread didn't go very well. I would love a game with Tifa as the main character and thought she was great in FF VII as well.

It could always be bumped up, and maybe expanded upon.

I pretty much would embrace any new game featuring a returning FF heroine.

Except Lightning.

And maybe Rinoa.

Tifa is still a perfect choice. But I'm kind of biased for any character that fights hand to hand.

Hmmm...
Man, I remember randomly buying a dirt cheap Japanese version of the first Crystal Chronicles on GameCube plus a Freeloader Disc on Ebay and ending up absolutly enjoying it with 3 of my homies with our GBAs for days straight :D We couldn't read any single word and just memorized every commando and item name visually. Good times.
A nice, mid-budget FF:CC on PS4 with co-op? I'd be in!

FFXV might have hit 1 million on Xbox 360, not the Xbox One, A lot of people called X360 a dudebro console, but at least it had a significant minority that bought non shooter/sports games too, this gen so far only dudebro games have been selling on Xbone (disproportionately better than PS4 too). & this isn't me making fun of people that buy dudebro shooters or anything like that, they have a right to buy whatever they want, I'm just pointing out facts regarding the market.

"Facts" implies your statement can be supported with evidence. Have any?

Every sales chart we have seen since the consoles released (NPD & PAL).

For example, Destiny sold better or slightly worse (depending on the chart) on Xbone than on PS4 despite the install base being 2:1, while Dragon Age charted way higher on PS4 & it disappeared very quickly on Xbone without ever coming back in the PAL charts. Ditto for Tomb Raider: DE.

This is all anecdotal hearsay until you produce some hard numbers. They shouldn't be hard to find if they're listed in charts.
