Real Products In Games

I decided to replay a game I used to spend a lot of time on when I was little.

Curious George probably features the only time in gaming that you will see bananas being advertised:

What products have you people seen in game?

I came into post about a Dole product placement in a different game! Stop shilling your damn bananas to gamers, Dole.

In mockery of the product placement's effectiveness, in college a buddy of mine and I exclusively referred to bananas as Doles.

Edit: Too slow on the draw!

Well, cars obviously. Even in non-racing games like The Sims. You could also play some Maxis games on The Sims 2 (well, not you, your sims).

Yours shows how big the presence was though. Like overkill.

When I was in Japan, I saw CalorieMate and was like "holy shit its the health item from MGS3! I need to try that!"

Spoiler it tastes like chalky garbage

The Metal Gear Solid series does not only have CalorieMate, though. Peace Walker is hilarious due to the sheer anatopism and anachronism of them all.

The first run of Virtua Fighter Kids was sponsored by a drink company called Java Tea, so the game wore its branding proudly.

Also, Pikmin 2 has a lot of real brands. Duracell, Vlasie pickles, ect. and lots of old Nintendo stuff.

Came here to say this, but there's no way I would've gotten a picture that good.

If I remember correctly, Peace Walker had a collaboration with a Japanese clothing brand where you would buy a shirt, it would come with a code, and then Snake would wear that shirt in the game. That always seemed like a cool idea to me.

I always wondered why games dont use product placement for a little bit of extra cash. Not bad, just subtle one's.

It wouldn't bother me if it helps keep developers employed.

Rush 2 (the sequel to San Francisco Rush) had collectable Mountain Dew cans and a Mountain Dew themed hot rod.

This wasn't very common back then so it was pretty novel to me.

The original PlayStation was great for product placement.

Sam Fisher pops a couple of Airwaves in Chaos Theory's first mission cutscene. The gum also turns up several times later on in the game.
