I'm tired of bad auto exposure in games being defended as "eye adaption" or "happens in real life"

You trimmed off my descriptions of eye adaption happening in MGS3 and now I'm sad ☹️
I mean, you are not wrong and your description is fine. It's just that eye adaption is not what those games are doing in the first place.

Edit: I haven't played MGS3 and this game might be an exception. I guess the actual eye adaption effect is similar to what other games do with flash grenades?

The pic on the bottom seems alright, but would need to see it in motion how the lighting changes.

But the first pic irritates me. The only thing looking good is the tunnel exit. The rest like loading hasn't finished.

The lighting doesn't change, unless you move outside. Which means it's a camera exposure effect, not eye adaption.

Why would you say it's good looking? It simulates a camera defect.

Either way it's not how it looks in real life when looking with our eyes, which is half of the point of this thread.

When I drive out of a rather dark tunnel, despite all the lights in it, sunlight blinds, especially if it comes from the front. Blinds also cosntantly without the tunnel when it is low and from the front. Cars have visors and many wear sunglasses just for that. Your eyes might be supernatural if that's not the case for you.

Pics are a bit pointless to judge if a game does it alright, but iirc GT7's version of that effect felt natural. A short burst of too much light and then normalisation.
edit: someone who owns GT7 might find better examples, but this looks good to me. The lighting in the tunnel sucks, crazy dark, but might be that this tunnel in reality is just poorly lit.

I honestly, legit, NEVER seen this in a tunnel. Ever.

I always see the outside as clearly as after i exit the tunnel. Unless the sun is directly hitting my eyes but you don't need to be in a tunnel for that.

I mean, if i couldn't see outside i would probably crash if the there's a car in front of me that's too close. But i never seen anyone ever slowing down before the exit.

This is not about the sun hitting your eyes directly. It's about the daylight looking like a nuclear blast frozen in time.

Or maybe i do have super sight. There's no way for me to see the world from your perspective so i wouldn't know.

I have no idea what your pupils do then, their whole point is to regulate different levels of light.
Open for darkness, which a tunnel is, despite the usually yellowish lights, and rather closed for outside, preventing bright even indirect sun burning your receptors. No idea how a human would see light and dark things equally at the same time.

So when you are in a tunnel, you always see this bright light outside and no other details? You only see the outside world after you exit?

That sounds really dangerous. Do you also slow down the car before the exit? I never seen anyone do that.

This sounds like you might have some kind of astigmatism or something, because most people definitely do not see a wall of blinding light when exiting a tunnel; tunnels would be completely unsafe if that was the case.

Of course abrupt changes of light intensity are dangerous, hence the lighting in tunnels gets afaik more bulbs at the end and the entry to try to balance it somewhat.
google suggested it has even a name in english: White Hole Effect???

Ok let me ask you something else then.

Let's say you are in a tunnel and you park the car 5 meters before the exit. Can you see outside? Does it take a few seconds to adjust? i'm sure you can eventually see, right? Just like you can see outside your window right now.

In a game you can't see. Even if you are just a few meters before the exit, the bright light never goes away until you physically move outside the tunnel.

Which is why the effect in games has nothing to do with how our eyes work and more with how phone cameras do.
