Bloodborne gameplay : The first 18 minutes

no, ok, i understand the reasons behind the change of setting.
really, it's ok.
I'm just the kind of person that wants more of the thing he likes, instead of something new. (it's just me).
But i can see their reasons, really.
This game will be great.
But, maybe, i'ts not my thing.
We'll see.
Is a thematic change from medieval dark fantasy to a victorian setting really such a big deal when the core gameplay, structure and atmosphere seems very similar to the previous games, which you liked?

I mean, I know one guy who won't touch sci-fi themed games, no matter what their genre or gameplay is like. But I think he's pretty irrational and weird, too. :D

yeah I was being literal with the number.

c'mon
It's almost as if I was making a joke!

Our thing

Hold my hand and let's jump into the fog together

One thing I'm hoping is that we can eventually see those NPCs who are locked inside their houses.
It's that small comment of Miyazaki that this would be faster and more aggressive than the sword and board of the first Souls games that got spun out of control into wishful thinking that Bloodborne would basically play like God of War by those that don't enjoy the methodical pace of the Souls combat.
I seriously saw someone suggest Bloodborne would be like Devil May Cry.

It's like people who didn't like Souls wanted a Souls game that didn't play like Souls.

Heh looks like a ummm myopia simulator?

Yeah DW and EDF have a special place in history when it comes to graphics. But really why would you want better graphics or stable framerates when you could have 100 more ants on screen or 100 more mindless dudes to destroy.

The aliasing bit is valid. People however are concern trolling when they mention downgrades. You've gone ahead and ignored the other half of the thread when it comes to that bit.

Edit: Done with thread? Convenient.
I think when people say 'downgrade', often times its because they see gameplay or something that for whatever reason, isn't as impressive as what they've seen before. Maybe they don't have the capacity to actually pinpoint exactly what it is they feel is downgraded, but they do know that they aren't impressed and their first instinct is to question whether the game was downgraded, as its become something of a buzzword this past year or so.

That's not necessarily concern trolling. I must say, I've seen aliasing in screenshots of this game before and everything, but this is the first time I've seen it quite so noticeable in video. Now, I don't know if they've somehow been messing with a different AA solution from before or what, but my first impression on watching the video was definitely, "This does not look as good as what I've seen before." I don't know that it was necessarily downgraded, and I think people should definitely be careful throwing that word around, but its still not necessarily concern trolling. Concern trolling is when people chime in with 'concern' about something they're actually not concerned about at all. But I reckon some people are seeing this video and are genuinely a bit concerned at the graphics. Claiming 'downgrade' may not be the best way to express that, but it doesn't mean they're trolling.

Then of course begins the hunt for what was actually downgraded, and if nothing turns up, then you can claim that there's no evidence of it, but again, whether its concern trolling or not is based on intention, not expectation levels or being harsh or being incorrect.

I'm very hyped for Bloodborne, but an RPG that plays like God of War or Devil May Cry would be awesome, I hope GG's game plays like that (the melee class at least).

This is the game I'm buying a PS4 for, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't somewhat disappointed in the visuals from this footage. The game looks good, but there is an obvious difference in quality versus the previous media released by FROM.

Atmosphere looks amazing, game of course will be fantastic, just hoping the visuals get some significant polish before release.

Yeah it's a big deal to me.
I'll try to explain.
I love the gameplay. But, the setting+lore was the thing that got me. I was amazed. That was my thing, medieval + dark + secrets , oh i was in fucking love.
I become really selective with games after Dark Souls (and Dragon's Dogma).
And I don't have so much time to play now, so i only want something i know i will love.
So yes, to me, the setting change is a big deal, 'cause i know what i want, and i don't want to be in a Victorian adventure, now (maybe i can change my mind later, it happens).
i'm sorry, i'm trying to be clear, it would sound much more reasonable in italian :D

Bloodborne Is slow and boring.( wink wink ) . it's just me but .(wink wink) . I was led to believe it will be similar to DMC (wink wink smile).

I can understand not meeting goals. You're right, that does happen, and that's reasonable. But when your marketing says all these wonderful things about the new lighting system and most of the visuals are magically gone in the final product, with no word as to why, or even acknowledging it, that isn't fair. It does happen, and that's why people lose trust.

And you're right, game development isn't for our amusement, it's become part of marketing. They want to sell you on a game before you even see the final product.

False marketing is definitely not cool. The E3 trailer was not false marketing. The game really did look like that at the time. The screenshots on From's website right before release were false marketing, because the game did not look like that at the time. But the website is not what you generally see people upset about.

Maybe I just wrongly assume everyone has the same thought process as me, but when I see a trailer I think "This is a video game which is currently in development. Since it is in development, it will continue to change for better or worse. It is made by humans who are not all-knowing." I don't actually think that through of course, it's just built-in common sense to me.

There's been aliasing in everything revealed so far. Less aliasing maaaybe, but it's always been pretty rough. Look at the gate in the Gamescom trailer for proof of that. The fact that almost everything shown before this has been at night probably hid the aliasing a bit better.

The intricate architecture of the buildings in Bloodborne and the fact that there are cast iron fences everywhere means that there's going to be shimmer no matter what. You'd need some massive downsampling and/or supersampling to eliminate shimmering on models that detailed. Personally, I'm more concerned about the chromatic aberration. I hope it can be disabled...

Samurais can be myopic too you know.

So what does the game run 480p or lower? I can barely see shit lol.

It's not even like shieldless play is a revelation in Souls game design. A lot of people put that shield directly on their back 95% of the time because rolling > blocking and 2h damage > 1h damage. I've been playing Souls like that forever.

Bloorborne |OT| - Blood for the blood god

latest

Tactical Dreadnought armor? Make it so.

Man, this thread is depressing. Instead of a celebration of BB footage, we now have a discussion about downgrades without any facts, without knowing how old the build is. This is why most publishers only release strictly controlled footage in strictly controlled environments.

The OT is going to be batshit.

Especially if the load times are like DS2.

...what ELSE are the detractors going to do during the minute or so between deaths?

Read the blurb about the Feather Armor next to the pulsing ellipsis for the thousandth time?

I REALLY want a previewer to come clean about what kind of load times we're looking at, for Bloodborne. Admittedly fastfowarded ones do not bode well.

I've watched hundreds of Demons / Dark playthroughs bored at work and only on rare occasions seen people not use a shield. Very rare.

While you make valid points, if you go through the thread you realize people are shouting downgrades over different times of day and using compressed youtube footage as a basis. That's ridiculous.

Nobody's mentioned yet that they got their name from actually using the word 'concerned'. It was rife in Driveclub threads, comments like "I'm concerned that the visuals may have taken a hit."

It was ridiculed due to how ridiculous the word 'concerned' was to use over a video game. I mean, honestly, google the word 'concerned' and see the types of expressions coming up...

"The potential lack of AA in Driveclub keeps me up at night"[/QUOTE]

So you're concerned that people don't share the same opinion as you.. Head on over to the Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin thread, another From game, and you'll see no one complaining about "trolling" even though relatively speaking there's just as many critical posts as in this thread. Why is that? Go figure..

I like how this game's version of the Nexus is basically Ash Lake. Also, I was more bothered with the sound effects used when you encounter the first werewolf rather than how the game looks (although I do think the area you see in this game looks better during night time than it does during the day).

Anyway, I'm not uber obsessive with technical and visual polish when it comes to the Souls series since I mainly interested in the art design and atmosphere, which this has in spades. I just hope they manage to maintain a consistent frame rate, because From soft have an iffy history with that.

Well I just watched a bit of some dudes SL1 DS2 walkthrough yesterday and he 2h his way through The Rotten. My point is expecting Bloodborne to be a huge deviation from Souls is weird because Souls already allows for playing sans shield. I'm not sure what people expected, like Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry?

Of course someone doing a SL1 run is two-handing their weapon. It was probably a mace, too, because the mace is the best weapon for a SL1 run, but at SL1 you only have the stats to use it if you hold it with both hands. Most new players use a shield on their first playthrough. I'm not sure what your original point is though... I doubt anyone was expecting the game to be DMC. If they were, that's their own fault.

Who knows. They've always said the combat will be faster but still weighty and based on stamina. So can't really just spam attacks or create 10 hit combos. Not that sort of game.

I wonder what the Hunter is doing during the stealth kill move. He just thrusts his hand into the enemy and rips it out of the body. Awesome but almost looks like something should be in his hand at the end of the animation

If you're watching someone's first time through a Souls game, then yes, chances are they're using sword and board. But if you watch an experienced player, they typically just have a shield on their back for the stats bonus or special buff, if at all. The combat of Bloodborne is different. You have to be VERY mindful of your surroundings and take each opponent carefully. You can't just walk up to an enemy with your shield drawn, wait for them to attack, and then respond in their recovery window. You now have to dodge the attack and immediately respond.

I have
A suspicion,
That you don't
Really
Realise how much you sound
(And really you do)
Like Christopher Walken.

On topic, I really wanted to resist watching the Bloodborne footage at first, but I gave in like the weak fool that I am. Although was no where near as spoilery as expected.
Though I think the "Messengers" are so adorably creepy (especially the bath messenger thing).
