Almost all Persona games have very tiny references to each other. Only people who have played them will notice though. Persona 3 and 4 have more connections though, as you visit the school from Persona 3 in Persona 4. They are no storybreaking references, but you will appriciate it more if you have played Persona 3 before playing 4 for example. There is also the fact that Persona 4 Arena and Persona 4 Ultimax has characters from both Persona 3 and 4.
I would say pick up Persona 3 FES on PSN and see if you like it! If you do then get Persona 4 on PSN or get a Vita for Persona 4 Golden.
The games are pretty self contained. For example P4 has almost nothing to do with P3 except one section where you visit a location from P3 and meet a couple of P3 characters. The characters themselves aren't important to the plot, just a nice little nod to people that have played P3. You're fine jumping in with P5.

I never like Persona series before but seriously this Trailer is really well done.

it was first announced for PS3. Game looks like its based off Catherine tech.
I can't imagine the ps4 version being lead. Will just be the ps3 one with higher resolution and better framerate (or they can both be capped at 30).

Yeah, I am planning to take the dip since I want to get the last games I missed out on due to Nintendo Club closing its doors.
This month and next are good backlog months.
I am ok with this considering we never got a PS3 Persona game. I love the series (thank you P4G) but we won't see a Persona made with PS4 base until probably PS5 launches.

I think this is the first time that I have been actually been so impressed with a games Menu that I've kept re-watching a gif of it over and over again in amazement

You will not be disappointed! You can also grab Persona 3 Portable on Vita via PSN if you prefer playing P3 on a portable device. I envy you for getting to experience them for the first time. They are two of my favorite games ever made.
BTW , Vincent in P3 portable too
If he does feature in this game, I wonder if it will be the current Vincent or its younger self.

I agree with this. I really didn't see what the franchise potential until I played 4. Then I went back into 3 and once you get past the first 10 hours or so, then the game picks up.
P4G doesn't have that much of a grind to get interesting.
A talking MC would be great, but it would piss off a lot of their fan base.

Well technically speaking at the end the village was super industrialized, like a city. Naruto, bayonetta and now persona confirmed for same universe.

This is everything I wanted and the direction I prayed for after P4. I knew they were going to try, I didnt knew they where going to get it SO right in just one trailer.
-School friends pass from Scooby Doo and the gang to Lupin III style vigilantes that probably have to be forced heroes when the world is going to shit.
I loved the Scooby Doo style of P4, it warmed my heart and it was fun as hell, but I didnt know how they where going to create something totally different that it was still playfull enough to not be a P3 "emo friends the world is colliding, we are doomed theme, do we even know each other". And here we are, with a fantastic picaresque theme, more serious than P4 but still playfull enough (so thematiccally soemthing similar to Catherine). And even in the few intros we see we already know that the relationship of the gang is closer to 4 than 3, thank god for that. Cant wait to see the next characters to join, I really like the 7 sins aspect someone was talking around here, and I would love to see a glutton funny character ala wonder green.
-Talking about the characters. The Cat. YES! Really liked Teddie, now its a cat that transforms into a buglar for perfect theming. Hater of mascots can cry all they want, I love it.
-Igor is back! I was afraid becuase some people said in the Persona community thread, it was likely that to respect his voice actor, that died, of making a new character. But nope, here he is, thank god.
-The artsyle and graphics. I only wanted one thing. For it to look like Catherine, not on ly in style but animations and camerawork. Perfect.
-The menus are out of this world, love when you are talking to important NPCs their shadow moves on the menu.
-The music, ooooh the music. I hated P3 rap style, I really like the pop style of P4, but this type of music in P5 is love. I was afraid that this being a city again, the music was going to P3 style, than god I was wrong on that.
-The dungeons seem fun to play this time!
So yeah, Im super happy with this reveal. Persona Team, you did well.
Now im sad of being an european.
For the good of god, please, translate this game to PAL5 so a friend can buy it in his PS4 and I can play after him.
If not it seems I will eed to buy a cheap PS3 to play it.
