Persona 5 New Trailer

Catherine only had one real "explorable" location, ignoring the Nightmare level hubs: the Stray Sheep bar. And yet, that single, small place was filled with so much personality and character that spending time there was always welcome. It's awesome to see Persona 5 will have a similar feeling for where the characters regularly meet up.
I'm late in responding to this, but this sums up how I feel about this as well. Quite glad to see that same attention to detail applied to this game.

I can't stand american voices on anime characters, I "somehow" played Persona 4 in english with japanese voices, it was great. I really, really hope they bring the dual audio, they have no excuse.

Yeah I'm def getting this one, I love its aesthetic and the introspection aspect would really compliment well with the exploration elements of Xenoblade, assuming that they'll come out in NA at similar times.

What a year for JRPGs it is.

His name is Swagmoto as well.

Whoa. I'm probably very late to the discussion but was that actual platforming or no? Damn this is gonna be so good though.

It's the velvet room. The place you're teleported in out and of, though in 3 and 4 Igor was nice enough to let you sit down comfortably.

In P4, Igor's assistant says something about Igor shaping the Velvet Room to match the guests who visit. So for whatever reason, Igor believes the MC deserves the jail treatment.

BTW, I haven't played P4 yet but one of the things that annoys me about P3 is that the MC just can't be "friends" with members of opposite genders who represent certain Arcanas to max out the relationship link level.

I felt like a cheating jerk. I do hope P5 does allow for platonic friendship to thrive (should such link level mini-game exists, which in all likelihood, will).

Technically, you can't date more than one person in P3 without getting your S.Link/Commu broken or reversed until they're maxed out. By that time, the storyline is finished for the characters so you never actually see them again in the game, lol. It's the topic of a lot of gag 4-komas for the series. It actually is one of the big weaknesses of the entire system since there's no maintenance for that aspect after it's happened.

P4 rectifies though as I recall but romance is a wonky thing to do with S.Links regardless of the adjustments.

I like this

Oooh this is cool.

My own crazy baseless speculation:
As in the past two persona games, there will be a time mechanic where you have to clear a dungeon before a certain date. This time though the dungeons are going to be "heists". Your team will be tasked with stealing something out of the dungeon by a certain day or the world ends! (or whatever they gin up) How this is going to differ I believe from past games is that the dungeons will no longer be randomized but will be fixed and have multiple paths to your goal with puzzles and obstacles in your way.

My evidence for this from the video is seen when the MC is platforming on the chandeliers. You can see the floor below him and it looks like the same entrance hall that we see him enter earlier with the knights walking around.

This brings me to where Cooperation comes in. People are speculating that S-Links has changed to "Cooperation". I believe that S-Links are going to play a much bigger role in the dungeons than just being ways to make more powerful personas. As the name suggest, S-Linking in this game will involve getting the Cooperation of people you meet to help you complete the heist. I don't know if these people will be willing participants or not but I believe that increasing their cooperation will give you certain abilities to traverse the dungeons that you couldn't do without them.

Curious to know what the general consensus is on Japanese forums or if they're just on board with the "OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG" that we're running with.

<3 GAF in general for tearing the trailer apart frame-by-frame looking for stuff.

I didn't read a lot, but pretty positive reception there too and same kind of speculation about the seven deadly sins etc.

Also one of the first comments I saw was "I want to have sex with the twin tails girl" ...
And the cat is cute.

We know absolutely nothing about this game beyond the trailer and interviews (none of which indicated such).
He'll likely have a VA (likely Jun Fukuyama in Japanese), but that doesn't mean he'll have lots of dialogue.

We don't know this. All we know is that the "Phantom", when he appeared at the Persona Super Live 2015 concert to present this trailer, definitely talked a lot to the audience, and he's presumably the VA for the protag.

Alrighty then.

Oh I know. But being stuck there? That's new. Hell, the previous two rooms had such loose exit policies that the female attendants strolled out to goof off. Thinking that the MC would have to forcefully be chained up there for any length of time to get through whatever Igor wants to cover is a strange idea. He's not just stuck, chained up to a wall like you'd expect of a short-term incident. He looks like a stereotypical prisoner in a cell.

Why would the MC be forced? What misdeed has he committed to that realm? Those are quite contrary to the Persona formula of "you have this special ability and it's up to you whether or not you want to use it".
And the cat is cute.
"Puuuuuuur-sona!" does sound a lot more natural than "Bear-sona!"

The Velvet room prisoner looks like he has a mole on his left cheek. Pretty sure he's a new character, not the MC or Vincent.

EDIT: Wait no it's sweat lmao

This would be a pretty good idea, and plausible too. You need to gain the cooperation of your teammates to better tackle dungeons/heists and to do that you'd need to gain their favor to get them to do certain things for you. Like say One cooperation group is a police officer that sets patrols at big scenes. They could route certain guards or change their patrol path for oyu with a high enough rank.

I like that they hang out in a coffee shop.

April 11th is when the other Persona games began with the protagonists entering school, and then stuff began to get into gear.

If that's the case, then the P5 crew might have already awakened to their Personae and began their thieving before the game begins.

In P4G you could be romantically involved with a bunch of people but you can only spend christmas with one romantic interest so be prepared to crush some hearts as you tell girl after girl "no I don't want to spend it with you"

Such a douche protag. But so much swag. In fact all of it.

The velvet room is thematic in 3-4. In 3 it was an elevator rising to the top of a tower(tartarus) representing a journey with the end goal at the top of it. In 4 it was a limo driving through a fog trying to find its path, representing a mystery with the end goal being the fog clearing. The theme in 5 is freedom, and the velvet room is a jail cell and the end goal is obviously to escape confinement.

It might be that the MC has a shadey past to top it off, not sure, but that's definitely the MC.

Honesty one of the best trailers for a game l've ever seen. My hype is through the roof now. Everything about it looks incredible. And the music, holy shit! I like the song in the trailer more than anything from the other games. Man, this is gonna be such a great game and I cannot wait.

I hope there's more party members than the two blondes (siblings? that would be new) and a cat thing. They all seem like interesting characters, but I like how large the casts always are.

"First day of class? Nah, we got a casino to rob!"

What's up with the obsession that Persona fans here seems to have about swag? I don't remember being an important factor in Persona 3 and 4. Am I missing something?

Basically a reference to how much of a pimp the MC from P4 can be. It's pretty much a meme, don't read too much into it.

My baseless speculation is that the group of friends you'll make will each be a delinquent/troubled child in their own way. It doesn't hold up entirely right now but the main protag is the cat thief, the naruto clone seems to be the muscle/street delinquent (due to the metal mask and melee weapon). I just can't quite put my finger on my theory as to what the girl and the cat would be, but the girl is wearing a thief outfit so maybe they're all thieves.

Are the comments there really THAT surprised it's popular in the West?

Surely they look at overall sales and reactions here from time to time right?

ehhhhh going by sales figures from previous persona games, they'd be right to be surprised. The original P4 didn't even crack 200k copies in the west.

now any trailer about the next persona game suddenly has 1m+ views guaranteed. i've no idea why P5 blew up the way it did, but it is awesome to witness.

Well the game is about a bunch of teenage rebel thieves, so locking him up kind of makes sense.

Because Yu came out with full swagger. I don't think it was a thing with previous Persona's? I'm not a long time fan. It's my fav series but I wasn't around with Persona 3 came out.

So the whole "swag" thing as I understand it, is a play off Yu's character.

I don't like anything about the aesthetic they're going for in this game. I probably would have thought it was cool when I was 13, but it just gives off a trying-too-hard vibe to me now.

not feeling the graphics - they somehow look worse than catherine did (do a side by side comparison of them hanging out vs catherine at the bar).

otherwise, the aesthetics look great - menus/cover system/soundtrack are in line.

MCs seem too carbon copy of previous, but I didn't expect much.

Meh on the cat. whatever.
