Persona 5 New Trailer

Persona 6 will probably use the same engine.
Now that they're done developing the engine getting more Persona games out on it will be quicker.

This was my thought too. Index/Atlus realized how much money they could make from Persona games so they wanted to get a really good engine made, Catherine was made to test their HD game capabilities, and now their engine is done so we'll see quicker production of the games. Sorta like how P4 came out pretty quickly after P3 did in comparison to the wait between P4 and P5.

I feel like Atlus realizes Persona is big enough now that it's one of the main moneymakers and thus they will devote the resources to it. That's why thus far P5 hasn't been marketed as "Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5," like previous entries were, but simply Persona 5.

Yea from what we've gathered, and my own speculation, this could very well be my favorite of the series. The more mature tone (teenage thieves) really works for me. Seems like some really cool callbacks to Persona 2/Philemon and his mask. I'm just floored how fucking good this looks. I always figured that the game would look like Catherine but by golly it is one of the best stylized games to come out. The music has a nice 70s Blacksploitation vibe. Totally in for the PS4 version.

Do people really think that they're delinquents? In my mind they're a bunch of outcast kids that think high school/life sucks and get to use their persona powers to make things more interesting.

As far as the cell shading and the lighting/shadowing, P5 looks great. That subway scene is gorgeous.

nah son. It's even more noticable in motion.

k, after watching the trailer a few more times. I am not that hyped anymore. The menus are still absolutely amazing though. More hyped on the menus then anything.

Well, Ryuji and Anzu/Anne are wearing normal clothes along with their school uniforms. In Japan, teachers and other adults would consider that as delinquency.

The delinquent group thing is really an interesting take..

If this is indeed the case, I wonder how the S-Links will be.. I mean, its not easy to make friends when people know you are a thief

I have tried Persona 3, about 2 times now, and Persona 4, about 3-4 times, and I still cant get into them.

With that said, Im still hyped for P5 lol.

the games are very lenghty main quest wise 65-80 hours and contain alot of slow repetitive parts. If you want to get into these games you really need to dedicate yourself to them for a few weeks. I think this type of investment is probably why they aren't as popular as they could be.

Rank 0; meet fellow student who is being bullied by some rich student
Ranks 1-4; learn about student's problems and personal issues
Ranks 5-8; plan to rob rich bully's house
Rank 9; bullied student learns something revelatory about rich bully
Rank 10; bullied student reaches understanding with rich bully, rich bully apologizes, and they become friends.

Interesting that they're fighting demons again instead of shadows. I wonder if they'll use conversation or another method of getting personas from them?

The demons are waaaaaay more personable than the terrible, recolored, repeated Shadow designs. I'm glad they are using them and hoping them go through the entire demon pantheon for my impossible dream of a high production value mainline SMT game. :D

Negotiations with demons would be cool with me, love doing them.

Rank 11: Baby come back! You can blame it all on me!~

I can't stand american voices on anime characters, I "somehow" played Persona 4 in english with japanese voices, it was great. I really, really hope they bring the dual audio, they have no excuse.
It costs a fair bit of money, among other complications? I recall reading an interview (maybe it was Aksys?) saying it costs about the same to dub as it does to get the Japanese voices. That's double the cost.

I mean it's be cool if we got both, it's just not that easy to have both.

It wouldn't surprise me if they actually did use this engine and the assets they made for Persona 5 to make SMT V on PS 4 after this. They did the same thing with nocturne and persona.

Catherine definitely looks significantly better.

But Catherine is easily the best rendition of an anime art-style I've ever seen in a videogame and it also takes place in one room. so it somehow seems a bit silly to hold that up as a standard P5 must pass.

Nothing ridiculous about it at all, considering Catherine came out on a console from 2006 and how Xrd looks on the PS4. It's their flagship franchise's first current OR last gen entry on consoles.

As much as I love the art style and overall aesthetic, the actual graphics are disappointing.

I wouldn't say I'd be surprised either, Persona at this point just has bigger audience potential than the mainline series, and SMT has been performing well on handhelds.

Would still love to have another Nocturne-like entry so I'll keep my breath cautiously bated.

This is an awesome thing to wake up to! Pumped over 100 hours in to P4G and loved the hell out of it and this looks even more amazing!

So what is the concenous on the ending part? I know some think it means the players transform into their Persona's... But I got the impression it was just the shadow self transforming like they did in P4.

Yeah I'm under the impression it is the MC's persona revealing itself to him. It is when the MC first realizes he has a stand.

i think you overestimate how much persona games actually sell, then. given the buzz around this one, maybe that's set to change, but until then you should work off the assumption that they expect to have a niche audience.

and bringing up XRD is rather bizarre. You should compare it with other JRPGs.
Good lord. I'm not even that big of a Persona fan (enjoyed 3&4 well enough), but this looks fucking amazing.

same. always felt they were middling games, but super excited for this!

lol wat. We haven't even seen a P5 scene with strong lighting like that yet. It's a bit hasty to judge P5's engine based on a few seconds of footage.

Also, technical quibbles aside, from an artistic perspective they've really nailed it with P5.

I agree with all this; I just hope they don't plan to get rid of the SMT series.

o.O

O.o

This looks awesome!

Velvet Prison ftw!

It's like Catherine + No More Heroes had a baby and got trained by Persona 4 to make Persona 5.

And those menus look soooo damn good.

Nah, no way of that happening at this point in time. It comes down to budgets, and Atlus knows how to fund projects accordingly.

We can pray that the Persona money trickles down to us SMT fans.

Finally got a chance to see this after getting home from work.

Was hoping it had Catherine-influenced graphics, looks great.

So getting the PS4 version of the game.

I think because of the internally developed engine that was developed for Persona 5, the likelihood of other Megaten, console games using it is very high. I'm sure Atlus knows the value in diversifying their IP, and they won't just ditch the others for Persona.
