Seemed fine when P2 did it, but whatever. I like how distinct P5 seems to be from the others, too.

But P2 was a direct sequel to P1, building on its story.

P3 then basically rebooted the series and since then the stories are contained and everything shown so far hints at P5 behaving like P3 and P4 in this regard.

I think what shocks me the most is how garish the protagonists look. Persona has always been a fairly normal series compared to other games in MegaTen, with normal high school kids being exposed to outside weirdness, and while every game had some weird elements like Kandori's DVA system, the robots in P2 and Aigis in P3, here it seems much more fantastical, with the heroes donning bizarre costumes as a public disguise. I'm reminded more of Raidou and Soul Hackers than I am P3 and P4, or even the earlier Persona games which dabbled more in a "weird" atmosphere.

Not a complaint, mind.

You can ask zeromcd when he's on for more detailed stuff, but initial comments regarding the trailer have been surprisingly majority positive. There's the same graphical concerns echoed about how good the game actually looks, etc., and some of the usual trolling.

The Japanese gamers are not that much different from western gamers when it comes to JRPGs.

More astounding when I recount what I was looking forward to:

Witcher 3, Codename STEAM, The Legend of Zelda, Fire Emblem: IF, Bloodborne, Metal Gear Solid V, and probably more than I'm forgetting. I'm just so "in the moment" right now with P5. Not saying it'll be better than those games, it's just that my brain is so hardwired to want this right now.

Also, I still don't get why everyone keeps bringing up FFXV. Two entirely different games. Might as well put any of the games I listed above in that slot, if you really wanted to. It's a non-existent rivalry.

Oh, I don't care about FF at all. Completely uninterested.

The games are pretty different. One's a big, open world, action battle system focused, roadtrip game. This is a turn based game that will probably focus on a smaller area with focused dungeons. The only thing that connects them at all is that they're both being made in japan.

I dunno, just seems really silly to compare them. Juvenile. It's playground-esque. But I get it, we're all in the moment and feeling the hype. Not mad, I just hope it doesn't continue and become something really petty.
