Persona 5 New Trailer

Would Persona be still Persona or more broadly SMT series be able to retain its identity if in the future they adopted a more realistic visual aesthetic as opposed to the highly stylized anime one?

It's a random thought that popped into my head after seeing FFXV and this thread about the "Mizuchi" engine (Japanese).

hmm i mean it could but it would leave a very different impression. I personally would never want that. FFXV looks great graphically but I don't think it holds a candle to the "style" P5 has. When a menu is so fucking impressive that it puts any other to shame, I don't know why anybody would want a realistic looking Persona.

... Oh God, I see where this is going.

The TV was weird, and Persona 3 also had some things which kind of discouraged exploration. For instance, if you walked outside your room on a Sunday you couldn't go back in to talk with Maya or watch TV. I think FES might have fixed some of this, but in vanilla P3 it was very harsh.

Oh wow, I do remember that stuff from my time playing FES. I think I recall that, once exiting the dorm during a weekend, trying to go back in would immediately move the day forward to the evening.

I think it's less about retaining its identity, and more about what would look better. P5's sense of style is better than anything with a more realistic tinge could bring to the table, in my opinion. I do associate Persona, and maybe even SMT, with a more cel shaded look, anyways.

Than...how old would Nanako be!?

Older Nanako is so making a cameo isn't she?

Nanako would be 11 years old by the time of Monday, April 11th, 2016.

Wow, awesome art here. I'm so pumped up for P5 :D Can't wait.

For me, I'm really curious to see how stuff like the social aspects will play out. Social Linkage is my favourite part of the later Persona games, so I'd love that to be expanded upon. Maybe have it be a little more dynamic somehow?

The Japanese name seems to have been changed from "community" to "cooperation" so they've definitely altered somehow.

I hope Famitsu has a lot of info next week.

All this fanart has made me realize the P5 protag is basically Naoya without his earring and discolored eyes, with a slightly altered hairstyle that's more straight than curly.

Ehhhh. That's kinda like saying the same thing the same thing with any other MC from any major anime :P

There was no Tanaka's Amazing Commodities in Persona 3, and the only time the show was on in Persona 4 was on Sundays.

In Persona 4 Golden at least I'm pretty sure he was also available on Monday and Tuesday. There were a few times I answered a phone call and went out but still purchased an item the next day.

I was thinking of P4G, honestly. I guess that might have been a thing, but they had to have just been during holidays, right?

Yeah probably otherwise you wouldn't be home until night.

... and I don't recall it being night when I ordered items. God now I want to go check. I'll do that soon lol.

From what I remember in P4G, Tanaka would put up new items on Sunday and you'd have until Tuesday to order them (anytime after school by using the TV in your room). I'm pretty sure this was available throughout the entire game, although I could be wrong.

Well, that's true. Lots of anime is...yeah. I dunno, I get the impression that if I were to contrast him versus the other protagonists, he's closest to Naoya in appearance by far. Minus the earring anyways. That and this fanart has got me contrasting Naoya to the P5 protag's shit eating grin at the end of the trailer.

It'd be cool to see a cameo from SMT Nocturne, maybe the occult writer Jyoji Hijiri who investigates the heists as somehow being occult in origin. (Why are the character designs so much better in Nocturne than any of the Persona games?)

Because you didn't have emotive portraits, as such the models actually had to look half decent, and even then they were stiff and creepy as hell(which fit the atmosphere).

Because Kaneko. Absolutely nothing against Soejima but Nocturne's unique atmosphere gets a huge benefit from Kaneko's designs. I played Nocturne only a few months ago and stylistically that game is god damn amazing still.

Also, I was thinking about Nocturne cameos too. Although my idea was that you could maybe visit Shinjuku Hospital (assuming P5 is set in Tokyo) at a very specific time and see Yuko or Hikawa doing some shady shit. Your musings about how elaborate that medical center is compared to a regular school nurse's office might tie into this if the P5 MC is actually visiting Shinjuku Hospital.

Edit: That guy knows how to design some demons.

Already answered in the post above mine, but basically because Kaneko.
I hope we see him design something again sometime soon.

Ah right, I forgot that Kaneko wasn't involved in the Persona titles. You'd think they would want their "star" artist on their biggest series. It looks like the last thing he did was on SMT:IV...is he basically just stuck on that series forever? Or does he choose what he wants to work on?

Yeah, Nocturne probably holds up better than most any PS2 title. It's just gorgeous. P5 seems to be at least partially in Tokyo, so yeah, it'd be cool to have that tie-in. You could be right about Shinjuku Hospital and it'd be awesome if that had a Nocturne link. Though I still don't understand why they're looking at an x-ray of a fish.

I remember saying I wasn't keen on the logo after it was first revealed, and also that I'd wait for future material before judging properly. Well, I've done that, and I'm sold on the logo. Remind me to never question Atlus's sense of style again.

Than...how old would Nanako be!?

Older Nanako is so making a cameo isn't she? I imagine she is going to be a detective like Dojima.

Oh my god...what if older Nanako is the detective that tries to bust you!? 0_0

And she will be a social link again ( ≖‿≖)

I could've sworn I heard that he felt his style isn't the best fit for the Persona series due it's difference in tone to SMT.
