Ok, this is too much. I can't even...

Stuff like this makes me comfortable for some reason. Like all the small things I get mad or sad over don't really matter. Just reminds me to make the best of my time here.

I'd argue that even if the Earth was the only thing that existed in space, you're still pretty damn small.

Tbh no single organism will have a cosmic level impact. It's impossible - and there's nothing wrong with that. Just work with what you have and do what you enjoy.

An infinite number of planets, and yet only one has her...

I'm almost 100% sure there is a blue version of her out there in the cosmos.

So... What do we do here?

Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

OMG! Is she wearing a different hair style?

MIND FUC****G BLOWN.

I think that being as insignificant as we are in the universe is the greatest thing ever.

It's a Saturday thread, so it is excusable. Time for a beer run.

My school's new science museum has a planetarium with a multi million dollar camera set up. It can zoom into earth and zoom out to the outer galaxies to make our galaxy just a speck on the screen. It's freaking awesome.

If anything in this thread is small and insignificant, it's your chances of ever being with her.

But just think - given a sufficiently large enough universe, as the universe tends toward infinity, there is almost certainly an instance of a "botty" somewhere being with an "Ariana Grande" who looks exactly like her.

There is a girl that works the flower dept of the grocery store I shop at, she looks just like Arianna Grande, so I'm not sure what you all are on about.

Makes me think that there has to be intelligent life out there.
The question is, is it possible to ever get in contact with other intelligent life. There could be a whole community of space faring species on the other side of our own galaxy and we wouldn't even be able to tell.
Why is a photo of some girl quoted over and over? Come on virgingaf!
Wait there's a virgingaf? Why didn't I ever receive an invitation :(

I think if I had to pick between the alien Ariana Grande and the human Ariana Grande I would pick the alien every single time. I can't think of a single situation where I would choose differently.

You know what I've started to realize? Virtual representations of our solar system are pretty much the only way to reasonably crate an accurate model of it based on both size and distance between planets. The ratio between the size and distance of the planets is simply too big to accurately display in any 2D model. Video games are actually one of the best ways to show this.

The first accurate virtual model I saw was in the game Universe Sandbox. When zoomed out all the way you can't see the individual planets at all. When zoomed in you can almost never clearly see one planet from another. Another good example that shows scale models of not only our solar system but fictional ones from a human perspective is the game Frontier: Elite II. Its fast forward mechanic alone shows just how much space there is between planets. Even the map screen in that game is to scale. To see a whole solar system you have to zoom so far out individual planets aren't visible, but even if you zoom all the way onto one planet, there are still cities and space stations you can't see, and you have to zoom in one more scale level to pinpoint them. It's insane.

The best 2D representation is If The Moon Were Only One Pixel.

What the distance between the Earth and moon actually looks like.
