Thanks for the info guys. I'm gonna be honest and say that this is sort of reminding of GTA4 and Me2 (building relationships with characters, paying attention to events in the universe) although that this game focuses on that much much more. And these "social links" will most definitely affect the story yeah? And come to your advantage in the gameplay and what not?
There's one main social link which will level up as you naturally progress through the story, but everything else is optional.

Not really they don't affect the story because you can Finish the game without starting any of them

it does come to your advantage in battles if you leveled up your party members social links.

Fool, P4G aeon,
jester
, your love interest(s), Judgement, P4 star, P3 Fortune, P3 Death are all directly tied to the story, while the companion ones are connected(but do not effect) to the story as well(and in 4 they increase your companion's effectiveness).

Depends. Again, EOIIU was released in November in Japan, but hasn't been announced for an NA release yet, and then there's DS2:RB which released in Japan in January, but doesn't have a release date for NA yet.

It's likely to do with this:

Combined with the number of projects they're handling simultaneously, and any other factors like that. In any case, Persona 5 will most assuredly be a top priority concerning Atlus USA's localization efforts... one would think.

I can't imagine P5 is anything less than top priority; I certainly hope so. I know another component of that is when they actually recieve material to translate.

In P3 (and maybe in P4, haven't played it) the social links have a direct effect on the Personas that you fuse. In P3, each social link represents a certain type of Persona: Strength, Devil, Fortune, Magician, etc. The higher your social link with someone, the more that type of Persona will level up during fusion and thus the more skills it will have. And maxing out a social link can unlock special Personas.

I can't wait for this game, def up their in my most anticipated games of the year. With this, Xenoblade X and Zelda all prob releasing in the second half I won't have much free time.

They all effect the gameplay to varying degrees, though only a few of them have an effect on the main story(although they are all their own self contained stories).
so you can progress through the campaign without paying attention to the social simulating aspect of the game?
Some Social Links affect the story in an important manner (such as unlocking an extra dungeon, having extra or different dialogue in a certain scene - for example Valentine's Day is different if you're dating everyone you possibly can than if you're dating one person or even none) and the gameplay (when you fuse a Persona it can make it instantly level a bunch, your teammates can step in and help you or take a mortal blow for you, etc. if you've ranked up the S. Link enough) and more.
hmm, is it possible to complete all of the social links through a single playthrough? or are you forced to pick and choose?

you can also finish Me2 without doing all of the loyalty missions, but it'll cost you your life. the game wanted you to make all the connections.

so you're saying of all the social link opportunities you come across, you have to do one in order to progress efficiently though the game?

so if the protagonist an anti-hero instead of a hero?

So one of the cooler character design aspects is that each character is dressed in one of various tropes for thief characters in media.

The protagonist is a suave, elegant, gentleman thief.

Anzu is the bombshell Catwoman type.

Ryuji is a thuggish biker punk.

Morgana is a cartoony ninja.

I wonder what other designs the rest of the party will have, if we have more.

Yes, but it does have gameplay advantages

Yes, but without new game + advantages its difficult enough to require a guide.

Story wise, the game doesn't deviate because you didn't do the social links

No, he is saying that there is one that levels up as part of the main story. No extra effort required.

Anti-heroes can have connections in the same way.

so you can progress through the campaign without paying attention to the social simulating aspect of the game?

You can minimise the attention you give it, but the game will force you into situations where you have to make choices every now and then which affect the social links, and there isn't so much to do in the games which are extremely long that you will really have much else worthwhile to do at certain times other than spend some time on your s. links.

hmm, is it possible to complete all of the social links through a single playthrough? or are you forced to pick and choose?

I dunno, actually! Someone else will be able to answer better, but I'll say that playing normally, you'll end up with a handful of maxed social links, a handful of half developed ones, and a few you barely touched. It's probably easy enough to max all of the main character links in one game if you ignore all the side characters. Actually come to think of it, some come to you via jobs you picks over other jobs, so you probably end up freezing a few side characters out that way.

so you're saying of all the social link opportunities you come across, you have to do one in order to progress efficiently though the game?

There's a main group social link which basically IS the main story, which will progress as you go through the story. You don't have to do anything outside of the main story to advance it because it happens during the course of that story.

so if the protagonist an anti-hero instead of a hero?

I assume you had a typo and meant is, and so my answer would be in P3 and 4 nah, you're just a hero. Your character doesn't have a super strongly defined personality, but you can make various dialogue choices which don't actually have much of an effect on anything beyond how fast your social links rise (or reverse in P3) except for at a few key points.

There is also the character dressed up as most likely a fox shown in the trailer as well. Don't know if that's more towards the trickster fox or the wise/cunning fox end of the spectrum. Could be a bit of both too. If not a party member at least an important NPC.

Any wallpapers of the new key visual floating around yet?

Posted before but here ya go.

I'm guessing the fox-person sitting on the billboard would actually be the ninja.

I love the part at 1:11 with all those hunched over salarymen on their way to another dreaded workday. Wonder if that plays into the story in any way.

Confirmed by director that one of the main themes of the game is mean to surround the idea of not being content with your life, being chained down etc.

Yeah, I meant regarding that. Like, the kids are worried about how empty/uneventful their future could be because of "the system" or whatever.

edit: okay, I hadn't read that specific interview above, lol. Interesting.

I'd put money on it being Anne. Blond hair, the red/white/blue theme to her undershirt... seems Lisa-ish.

S'what I've been saying since Tuesday, but it seems like some folks can't settle with the idea she's a foreigner/not entirely Japanese.

I expect Famitsu to clarify the name issue, if nothing more.

The Persona 5 PV#01 trailer has reached over 2 million views:

I really hope this is a sign of what's to come. I know that Youtube views do NOT indicate sales but as JRPGs are my favorite genre I feel like some of the bigwigs in the industry could do with a good reminder that the genre isn't as dead as they seem to think.

Can I also say that I'm really happy to see Igor in the trailer? I know the Japanese v.a. died, but Igor is such a center to Persona that having him disappear or be replaced by anyone would be a disappointment to me.

In comparison, it bugged me to no end that Patrick Zimmerman voiced Liquid in MGS4 when the voice of Ocelot at the end of MGS2 was Cam Clarke. They should have found a sound-alike for Japan and left NA have Clarke do the voice in MGS4.

I don't like how they changed the name to japanese ... it should be both lol because I was confused when I searched for it again lol

Very nice observation! I hadn't thought of it like that but I think you're right on.

Some kind of genius gadget thief seems likely.

Definitely. The "support" archetype. Opening vault doors with a laptop, intercepting security camera feeds, those kind of things. I don't know if that is as much a trope in Japanese media as it is in Western media but they seem to be pulling influence from everywhere.
