Face-Off: Evolve - PC/PS4/X1

That flys against me and two friends who've been playing on ps4 without a single issue online.
It could be an issue specific to DF, but I remember reading impressions of people playing games like Battlefield 4 and DriveClub 'without issue' when they first came out as well. It doesn't have to affect every single person in order to be a widespread issue, ya know?

Here you go.

We'll, that's what I get for reading in a rush. Seriously missed that bit entirely somehow.

Would still prefer a bit more information mind, but apparently they've improved considerably since I last read a DF comparison, so hats off to them.

Surely it would've been on the ot by now or on Twitter or anywhere, I've not read anything about it until Df used it as a point.

Er... is including a game's online functionality in a tech analysis something DF have done before? Because I sure don't remember ever seeing them do it.

All it's going to accomplish is making it look like a bit of damage control they tossed in when it became clear the XB1 version of the game was unquestionably the worst (Yet the author says it's a tough call for some reason.), further calling into question their already somewhat sketchy reputation these days.

Funny because I've seen a lot of people complaining on evolves Facebook about the online connectivity on BOTH consoles.
So it might just be a bit of a crapshoot and DF got unlucky with the PS4 version at their time of testing?

While I don't blame them for posting their findings, they might want to do a bit more strenuous testing of something like online interconnectivity knowing how complex that area can be.

But we haven't seen any of that talk with Evolve outside of this article. Suspect...

*edit*

Apparently there has been some talk, but it is both versions. Still suspect.

It has full bot support and can be played offline. But it's MP focused.

I see. Been look up a bit and It made for co-op.
Hmm, I'll drop this game out my list. I'm just can't play a game focused on the teamwork online with unknown people.

750ti is a bit worse than a PS4 GPU which is somewhere between a 7850-7870. While its a good card to throw in the tests, expecting it to match the PS4 1080p is a little unfair. 760 is quite a bit better than a full 7870 so you might need to look around more or downclock for something more equal

The article states Evolve is heavy on the GPU for PC but his own tests and other benches around the net show it isn't.

Using their internet connection as means to question which version to get is laughable.

There are an infinite amount of reasons as to why it took them longer to find a game on ps4, most of which don't even come down to the console itself.

"we're using a 1080p screen for the ps4 version but for some reason its outputting in 480p so we give the win to xbox one."

I'm not sure what happened but the online connectivity is not just a ps4 issue.

That "better online infrastructure" argument is so silly that even I have a hard time defending DF. It's wrong on so many levels that it hurts.

Just copy paste this for the rest of the gen DF
The PS4 version is way better than the XboxOne version, but we can't say the PS4 version won, because theoretically, the online infrastucture on PSN could have issues at some point in time. Also, it's possible the PS4 will eat your new born babies. Not saying it does, but theoretically, in a parallel universe, we're pretty sure it does.

Its a multiplayer game, it should mention xbl and psn. Psn has improved since launch but its still well behind.

900p seems like the perfect point for xb1. 1080pr looks good, but other things need to be turned down when doing so.

They aren't comparing consoles(although I know that's how you view these Face Offs).

But I agree otherwise, there are reasons this could be happening unrelated to the software.

I just ran a quick test on PS4.

I searched for 6 Evacuation pvp matches and used a different preference each time. All of the matches were with new groups. The average time to find a match was 47 seconds. 57 highest - 26 lowest.

I don't feel like using matchmaking in a vs situation is right unless it's objective. For example, it was impossible to matchmake with a party on Ps4 in the Alpha and Beta.
That would be a objective reason to preorder one over the other.

The whole online argument is silly. I've been playing psn since 2006. I've been playing my brother 360 before I got my PS3. In my opinion the only difference I noticed between Xbox live and psn was that you paid for one. If a game lagged on PS3, it also lagged on 360. I can only remember how laggy cod 4 and mw2 were on xbl.

The game servers have nothing to do with PSN or XBL, they are hosted on other infrastructure. If you are able to remain signed in, then that comparison is irrelevant.

Every shooter is a multiplayer game. They should mention online infrastructure in every game from now on.

Only issue I every had with bf4 was conquest. Everything else ran great from launch. Anyone who said they had no issues with Driveclub were playing a different game than me.

I'm happy with the PS4 version. Framerate feels pretty solid, and the game looks nice as well. I haven't noticed the stuttering/lock-up DF mentioned, but I did think something felt "off." Guess I'll pay more attention next time I play.

This game looks amazing at 60fps. Runs like dogshit in SP, but framerate is 60fps locked in MP. Haven't noticed a downgrade in visuals between the two modes.
Very please with the performance and the graphics.

Neither MS or Sony run Evolves servers so I don't understand your point. Only thing live or psn do really is verify you're service is paid for. After that you connect to 3rd party servers on both consoles which is dependent on your connection.

Then, why not also mention ambiance of the room you're playing in? It's about as subjective and comparitive.
One is related to how the game functions and one isn't. That's why, quite obviously.

And this is actually entirely testable. I don't know if DF have the resources to do it, though. It would require a fair sample size as well.

These analysis are becoming more and more pointless. They should be purely a technical analysis however they are so opinionated it's silly.

Psn still needs to be up to gain access to multiplayer games. How many times was it down just this week?

Neither have anything to do with the technical make up of the game but do have an impact on the enjoyment. Network conditions may have nothing to do with the game, but entirely down to the console, the connection method, ports, firewalls, external latency, other users on the same connection, the ISP and, finally, the netcode. There's too many variables to accurately test it in a few days or even make a proper comparison.

It was down about 10 minutes,Other than DDos attacks psn has been good for me connection wise. Issues I had was friends list and messaging both have been fixed.

1 time for me which was during scheduled maintenance.

DF makes no mention of not being able to sign in to PSN. They mention longer matchmaking times. That is on the game, not PSN.

I have a Ferrari and my friend has a Morris Minor but his car 'performed' better than mine because I couldn't find a petrol station.

Eurogamer.

Netcode and servers are certainly 'technical' aspects of a game, especially an online-focused one.
