Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I'm still kinda concerned about the Kuro buttons. How exactly do they differ to the Sanwas? Stiffer?

Will probably get one too regardless, since the driver issue seems to have been swept under a rug and madcatz are pretty slow to announce anything concrete for europe.
The ones I had were a little stiffer than Sanwas - I needed to actually press down instead of just brushing my fingertips over them to register a press.

One thing about the Kuros is that the edges of the buttons are at a sharper angle compared to Sanwas; it might be a little uncomfortable.

How are the silent Sanwa buttons? Do they feel just as responsive?

Worth picking up instead if I was going to pick up a set of regular Sanwas? (ignoring the price difference)

Hori FE or VSHG?

Fighting edge is my favorite plastic stick ever. Vshg is great, though, and if size is a concern might be a better fit.

Love the weight of the Vshg.

They have a mushy feel that takes some getting used to. It's not bad, but it's definitely different. I adjusted and quite liked them. They actually felt a bit more sensitive than stock sanwa to me. I wouldn't say get them over regular sanwa unless you're interested in making a bit less noise.

Ok, cool. Thanks. Noise isn't a big deal right now.

I posted this in the Fighting games weekly thread, though I'd place here to.

Hori FE or VSHG?

VSHG is my favorite retail stick. When it came out in 2007 it was about $72 USD. Totally utilitarian design; 6 buttons, no frills, but still incredibly sturdy and hefty.

Be aware it has real issues with games other than VF5. Even the second revision has problems inputting multiple (3+ inputs) at once in games like Tekken and SF4. This can be fixed by replacing the PCB tho. Drop a PS360 in there and it's a force to be reckoned with.

Also worth noting that the mounting bracket limits your stick options if you have your heart set on an LS32 or something.

HMMMM
they're comparably priced new these days, no?

That collector mentality. Shame. VSHG was a great stick at sub-$80, but considering that replacing the PCB is basically a requirement, and it's already on the expensive side in the second-hand market on the for what it offers, it's hard to recommend in good conscience.

Wow I was going to wait for an all black TE2 for ps4 but i can't resist that HRAP4 Kai.

The only thing it's missing to me is a lock button and sanwa parts but it's got everything else including the touchpad!

With the cheaper price, nice feature set and earlier availability, I really think MCZ is gonna lose a lot of sales to Hori.

Yeah, I agree. Nice price point. Ordered one as well. Not much on PS4 for a stick (maybe the Guilty Gear thingie) but I'm always game for a Hori and it has been about a year since I've gotten one. I wish MC was more friendly at the site level and a bit cheaper.

How are the actual sticks on the horis? The old HRAP Pros used to come with a sanwa stick, so you were just a button swap away from having all sanwa parts. While I save $50 if I were to go with the new HRAP4, I'd have to swap both the joystick and buttons.. and suddenly it's not saving much.

Hayabusa levers are supposed to be great. The kuros (buttons) though are more divisive, with lots of folks saying they're bad.

That's good enough for me.. as long as the kuro buttons are an easy swap. I certainly appreciate how clean the TE2 is, but I can't justify $220 on a stick right now

Anyone else have an Xbox One arcade stick?

I bought a TE2 awhile ago for Killer Instinct, thinking that down the line I could use it for XB1 versions of SF and GG so it'd be worth it. Welp, that's not happening lol, but anyway tried using it with DOA5:LR today and the game doesn't even pick it up.

Still works in the system menu, but doesn't seem to work for any other game than KI. Bone isn't exactly drowning in fighters so I can't check anything else but it doesn't work for DOA.

Isn't that kind of fucked up? 300 bux for a stick that works with one game. I'm hoping this can be fixed with updates but who's job is it? MS, Madcatz or Tecmo/Team Ninja?

Does anyone else have an XB1 stick they can check this out with?

Are you serious? Ugh. I have this game coming soon. Will try it myself asap.

A few designs for my TE2. They're not perfect, but they were fun to make and get me revved up about upcoming releases :) I know, 3rd strike is not new, but I love the official art for the game, so that's how I'm celebrating SFV.

Kai models have more distance between the lever and the first pair of buttons. And the color scheme obviously.

The buttons are also a tad further toward the top on the panel for a little extra room. Not much though.

I would like to see more of the extra spacing moving forward on other brands and models. The tight stick/button placement is probably an artifact of carrying over the arcade dimensions where they need to be more compressed because space is at a premium.

That''s one part of what's so nice about the FE. There's so much hand and wrist space, which makes it extremely comfortable..

That's fucked up. Was DOA4 compatible with sticks other than the official Hori one? I hate that shit.

Funny related story, but KOF13 doesn't even worth with the first revision of the Neo Geo AES stick for PS3.

DoA4 stick worked with other fighters. I used it for a long time.

I don't think it's entirely on DOA, the TE2's LT and RT buttons don't get detected on a PC, either, which I think is a weird problem. That's a driver thing, right? Pretty much official silence on that problem too.

And I mean seriously every other xbox one game doesn't detect it. I tried to play Guacamelee :|

Shit, that sucks. I have the HRAP so I'll report back once I get my copy of the game. I'll be real mad if this becomes an issue. It's a fucking controller, it sends signals down the cable to the box. The box interprets those signals and makes things happen. It's not rocket science.

I was bitching about TE2 xb1 compatibility last year, here's Markman's explanation (question 2):

This is not a priority for microsoft, so I don't expect this to get fixed anytime soon.

Thanks for the heads up on the hori preorders. Good thing I checked this thread before they were sold out. After getting burned by Madcatz website a few times for preorders these last couple of months I'm happy I can finally get a stick for PS4. Saving $50+ is also great as well. Ill probably pick up a TE2 or just wsit until their next revision and hope that i can actually purchase on without trouble.

Can't wait to finally play GGXrd on my PS4... after 3 months -_-

Holy shit. I had no idea. I never would have bought a TE2 if I would've known it would be limited to a single game. WHYYYYYYY

Also, how does the Hori work on other games (DOA5)?

EDIT: THIS JUST IN
According to S. Mack on Amazon, you CANNOT, I repeat, CANNOT use the Hori RAP Hayanusa for Xbox one on Tomb Raider or Titanfall:

I can't seem to get the stick to work on Tomb Raider or Titan Fall on the XBOX ONE . I can navigate the xbox one screens and choose applications but when I try and start a game or control a character it is not working at all.

You heard it here first.

Well, I won't hold it against them for those games, as you do need both analog sticks.

I really only expect compatibility for fighting games, sidescrollers & shmups but I honestly don't see microsoft giving a shit about this unless there's some giant outrage. Stick company makers seriously need to stand up for the customers though and fight for better compatibility.
