The trademark for The Last Guardian has been abandoned (e.g. dead)

Could they be renaming the game?

More like -> It's getting a new name/title

Seems like it.

I still believe. It's not dead until they say it's dead.

Geez, guys...

.

How would it benefit Sony in any way to keep saying it's alive if they canned it?

IMO their contract with Ueda requires them to turn the IP over to him if they terminate the game. So they will just pretend it is in development forever so they can keep the IP.

The game's dead. Sorry, I am tired of joking about this. I have many inside sources.

Aren't you forced to do something with name you have trademarked?

There is probably only so long you can hold on to the name of your cancelled game. Seems unfair for other people that would actually do something with the name

It should have been obvious for a few years now that whatever "The Last Guardian" game that got revealed at E3 doesn't exist anymore. Whatever is being developed has long since transformed to ensure technically feasibility and at the same time take advantage of the power of the PS4. It might as well be a new game.

Your tag, lol

This game was a passion project gone horribly wrong. You can't churn out masterpieces like ICO and SotC, you need designers and developers to have a vision and a will to execute on that vision. The minute Team ICO wanted to disband and move on is the minute the game died, even if it does come out it will be garbage I'm betting.

Practically everything I loved from the Japanese side of the industry is already dead, anyway, so it's par for the course. At least I'll have Bloodborne.

Oh man, surely they would at least protect the trademark for the name....
As I recall, the trademark has lapsed before - until presumably somebody in the legal department sent in a check to renew it. But if they don't bother renewing it this time, the game goes from unofficially dead to really most sincerely dead.
