Ever look at the way a character poses or animates and think "why the hell did they make him/her act like this?" Some examples:

WTF? Plus she flails her arms around wildly when she runs. I guess they thought it looked cute but mostly she just looks stupid and annoying.

Also lots of anime-style games do this:

Why are their arms sticking out at a 30 degree angle all the time? I guess it's some combination of not wanting them to clip through their outfits and, again, trying to look cute. It mostly just reminds me of this:

Also a lot of games try to have "girly" leg poses mid-jump for girls, like with the legs bowed-out. Jumps don't actually last long enough for you to do that without landing on your knees like an idiot.

Generally dislike it when games attempt to differentiate female character animations from male ones by "feminizing" them through clenched elbows and such. It just looks stupid.

It doesn't need to be over-exaggerated, but I imagine not doing that would make the animations look even wonkier, especially as graphics improve.

Juri and Adon both have awful neutral stances. Not that Street Fighter is meant to portray realistic fighting styles particularly well or anything, but standing on one foot is an awful way to position yourself if you need to move into offense or defense quickly.

Modern/3D Sonic does the same thing, it's like when sprinters try to move their bodies forward to be over the finish line first, except doing it all the time.

I think I read somewhere that it makes you slower. Arm movement helps forward momentum or something sciency like that.

First, she's doing the stupid inward knee thing with her legs, but she's taking it to a noticeable extreme. Also what's up with her touching her nose? It looks like she's picking it. This is a character who starts the game in exile after her family is killed and she's making THIS pose?

Bonus round:

She's about to break her spine with that pose. Also the hair looks like a hood. And why is she standing on one leg? Is she walking? While looking backwards? That's an accident waiting to happen.

The poses are certain panels from the manga. In the games they are just straight up references to how they were drawn at one point or the other.

Except it stopped looking badass the 4.657th time we saw it. Now its just an overused cringeworthy pose that every anime / movie / game character still does for some reason as if anyone still thinks it looks cool...
