The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

Yeah but the Order has 2-2.5 hrs of straight gameplay on a 5-6 hr completion time, versus how much in Bayonetta?
Let's not go overboard. The game has 2h 10m of cutscenes. Someone actually went that though that youtube video and measured. That amount won't change no matter how fast or slow you play it, so the rest is gameplay, and even if it takes someone just 6h to finish the game, that's still 4h of playing something.

Let me just say this:

The game is short, but fucking excellent. I'm fully confident that the Order: 1886 is the UC1 of this generation, a damn good game, where the sequel will likely top it without question.

I completed it in about 6 hours.

However, my only gripe is that the story, while good, still feels like it should've been an HBO series rather than a video game. Though, I guess that's a backhanded compliment from a certain point of view.

Either way. Had a blast.

Buy it.

Enjoy it.

Form your own opinion.

Hahah definitely a backhanded compliment to me. I'm a sucker for HBO slow drama.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad you liked it.

Guessing this game gets shredded on Thursday. And by that I mean 70ish MC. So not really but people will be mad.

Amazon.de just updated the Steelbook art:

Hopefully this arrives in time.

Anyone here with a german version who can confirm that english voices are included in the game?

We had that same art work for the steelbook but it doesn't look anything like that atleast here in Finland. Looka more like the earlier artwork but not quite. Kinda ugly to be honest.

Time to dive in. Thanks Best Buy!

I'm expecting around that too, maybe slightly higher. Which I think is fine and good enough for a new IP of this nature. A lot of games have been getting critically panned in reviews lately. Hopefully more journalists judge it for how well it does what it intended, not what it isn't, or what they would have preferred it to be. Eg more open world in design, non cinematic etc. But I doubt it lol.

So the safe bet is I won't be disappointed if i pick this up friday? Im saying this as someone who doesnt care about length and enjoys a good story and action. Honestly could care less about length and just want a good experience to hold me over awhile until Bloodbourne.

Basically is the game legit qte and length aside since those are the main negatives i see repeated in Order threads. Im not finiky enough to have those ruin my experience as long as the game is good and the story/characters are engaging.

Just pre-ordered a Collector's Edition at a local game store. I though GS, BB and Amazon were the only ones getting it, but this store said they were getting a bunch in. The only thing about it is that I wish they included a normal box with it too. Steelbooks are kind of anooying on the shelf. But it's not a huge deal at all.

The QTE complaints were always rather disingenuous imo. Especially given there were actually barely any QTE's in either of the demo's they showed us. Now it turns out that there are in total, roughly only 11 minutes worth of QTE's in the whole game (give or take how many times you fail them), people are far more quiet about that now.

I don't really care about QTEs and cinematics and all that. I just want to stay engaged in a good story. From the impressions so far I'm not convinced it will have that, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

Be sure to use the official The Order stopwatch when you play the game.

So this is the first time I've pre-ordered a game, the first time I've planned to start a game on Hard even though I have no idea how the game looks like and also the first time I will start a speedrun of a game I haven't played before.

So many firsts :o

Yeah I think anywhere from 70-75 is a decent start for a new IP from a dev's first console game. People will call it "panned" but oh well.

I really enjoyed Infamous: Second Son which sits at 80 so if this is within a stone's throw of that I think I would consider that a success, as far as Metacritic goes anyway (useless to me).

so should I pick the game up on Friday?whats the general feeling towards the game?

Most people on GAF have liked it or loved it. There's enough footage out there to get a feel for what it is and if you still aren't sure then wait for reviews on Thursday if you put stock in those types of things.

Otherwise I don't know what else could help you decide.

The Order: 1886 |OT| Ready at Dawn. Done by Mid-day.

Does anyone have any idea what the real title'll be?
I laughed. And maybe the OT for this game needs a bit of self awareness anyway, if there's any hope of it not turning into a dump. Then again, if I was one of the people making this game, I'd probably feel a bit disrespected seeing that.

That would make you very happy wouldn't it?

It doesn't matter what reviewers say. At least Sony dares to put out different games from different genres and new ips.

I'm all over this game and haters can giggle all they want about random youtube playthrough lengths and meta critic scores but I'll be enjoying it.

Didn't realise that a game with basic third person shooting, QTE bosses and average story was that different

It is funny for sure but it will just encourage shitty discussion and bickering about the length the whole time. Also what you said.

Yeah I think there's room for jokes and self awareness but not in the OT title. Also developers are often present/active in OTs and it would probably discourage them or hurt to see something joking about a matter that is likely a source of irritation to them.

LOL, QTE's tend to be blown well out of proportion in a lot of games.

I don't mind them as long as they fit in well.

Heck, look at how much Ryse was bashed for having QTEs. I'm not sure if there's more than even 2 minutes of forced QTEs in that game.

I have no problem with them in either game, but it is often pounded on no matter how extensive or true/false it is
