The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

The original conversation I saw where some were recommending disabling aim assist was in the context of a conversation of why the game would end faster for some players. I didn't see mentions about the feel of it causing problems.

I personally made the observation from a gameplay preference perspective.

Yeah, thats what I've seen too. Just wondering if it's that or it's being suggested because it's a bad implementation of aim assist.

Well down goes the Review thread. That was inevitable.

Do we have any new impressions since yesterday afternoon?

Welcome back, brethren.

No, not really.

I just realized what an easy ass platinum this game is.

You could literally platinum it on your first play through.

It's hard to not spoil what i think about The Order 'cause of NDAs. But let me say: it's a shame that RAD trimmed down what you've experience of the whole lore of The-Order-universe. Thank you focus groups.

I must have missed it in the thread. I was active the first several pages, and didn't see it in any of the gameplay descriptions. Do you think it has drawbacks, or just a personal preference? I've played games where the auto-aim thought I was targeting someone in the background, and it actually pulled me off from what would have been an accurate headshot.

It didn't cause any problems. It's just what people who experimented with the settings seemed to think as ideal.

Forgive me if this has been answered already, but my copy just came. Are we allowed to stream it without getting into trouble from PSN or Twitch (accounts banned)?

Review thread got shutdown and it was just starting to take off! lol

DId claim the life of one junior though at the very end, saying someting incomprehensible about DX12.

I am so excited for Friday!!!!

Lol, that review thread started going somewhere too. The second after I said we had a thread close last year over the same situation (one or two early reviews a few days before embargo).

As for aim assist, while I'm not sure how it works in The Order, it can be both a boon and a pain in Destiny. Good when targeting a single enemy, but if they start passing in front of each other or grouping up it throws the whole thing off.

I'll probably have it off. Still find it weird that camera bias isn't on by default.

Your PSN will be fine, but Twitch will shut you down.
Streaming is allowed starting on release day.

I just felt it took too much control away from me in what is already a pretty simple TPS.

It's a matter of feeling like you're actually wrestling these big guns and being outnumbered, as opposed to another Rambo power trip experience.

I got a feeling this is gonna sell millions regardless of reviews.
18mil PS4's out there and they a lot are hungry for an exclusive game with stunning graphics, this is it.

Ah, I can completely relate to that. Thanks for the follow-up.

Ummm... why? Some of us don't value our entertainment by the number of hours. It's all relative based on where you are in your life, what you are looking for in games and what you can afford
I know I'm willing to spend more money on games than other things because it's a hobby I enjoy supporting. Kind of surprised that doesn't seem to be the prevailing position on GAF.

I'm disappointed to hear the game is on the short side. Hopefully my playthrough is closer to 10 hours, if not more.

Its disappointing primarily because the rest of the game sounds ace and waiting on a potential sequel is way too far off.

You can play the game but don't stream, Twitch will ban you.

You'd think the PS4/PSN would have something in place to block certain games from streaming on the console yeah? it seems weird that if you got a game early and use the built in streaming services provided by the PS4, you get in trouble? bleh...

Maybe I'm just a rich privileged person, but I enjoy supporting devs that I see potential in. If others don't roll that way, it's fine, but it does seem like you would expect enthusiasts to have a slightly different mentality.

Hey, what are your final impressions after some time after beating it? I know your opinion of the story changed a bit, what do you think of the game overall now?

Huge missed opportunity on the story.

I was nervous about it, honestly. Too many games have had great promise with the story and once I get through them I end up feeling cheated. I was hoping with this it wouldn't be another Heavenly Sword scenario. But for all the secrecy they had, and those promising Dev diaries... It let me down.

They didn't have enough time, evidently. The plot strands, story elements, characters, they all feel cobbled together and unsubstantiated.

I thought turning off auto aim assists is a pretty standard thing for seasoned game players.

Sidestepping the implied insult, for me it depends on the game and how it feels. There are many types of aim assist, some more obnoxious than others. To give one example Halo (or Destiny) on a controller wouldn't be as fun without it's implementation of aim assist.

Why are people recommending aim assist off? Just to make it harder? A lot of console shooters play better with aim assist.
Aim assist off, and crank the difficulty to the hardest, this way you'll get at the very least 10 hours out of the game.
And if that's not enough, play with one hand tied behind your back, or play with your feet.

just joking guys, I hope you all enjoy the game. As for me I'll be waiting till it's $15 or lower

For a game that has such straight forward bare bones gameplay this is unacceptable. Definitely disappointing and warrants a no purchase decision.

RIP The Order review thread # 1. Lasted 2 hrs 15 mins.

And I had just finished a GIF for the thread too, might as well post it here now. :P

It's still a tremendous effort though. It's a flawed gem.

I'm a sucker tight art direction, and this ranks right up there with Deus Ex:HR, Killzone 2 and PoP2008.

I will say, that after playing through it a second time, the gunplay is nice and meaty, and even more satisfying now that i have experience. I've been experimenting with Galahad's melees; throwing smoke bombs and running up and wrecking shit. I've seen some brutal shit that I never saw during the first playthrough.

I don't have a problem with the characters either; they're quite engaging I thought. The problem is some of them need more fleshing out; more backstory would have been welcomed. There was a bit that I missed first time through; there are little hints here and there that give away possible motivations behind certain characters.

You'll be playing this in about 3 years. The evil within was cheap pretty fast and never got below 29.99
