A Gamergater makes a short film, hilarity ensues.

I'm not sure he thought it was a good idea. I get the feeling that he committed to the idea before realising it wouldn't work with his shot composition, refused to back down and didn't have time for reshoots.

It's garbage.
Your telling me that during those three twenty hour days he spent editing, he didn't realize, those shot were shit. Spend less time editing a six minute feature and do some reshoots.

GG'ers are sounding more and more like cartoon villains.

EDIT: Just watched it. DEAD at the filmmaker thinking it should have won.

EDIT 2: He just posted a response video.
I couldn't watch the response video all the way through because I can't anymore, but it sounds like it wasn't his intention to associate himself with GamerGate? Because that's fine. Now we'll just have to contend with the fact that he was involved in a horrible student film. Student films are generally horrible but don't make them more horrible by touting your own horn and getting caught with your pants down.

I couldn't get through 0:44 without pausing and laughing.

Are film. ARE FILM.

And 100 hours plus three 20 hours editing sessions? For that?

We are the FILM

The Loot movie is satire, right? It looks like satire. The description associated with it is also satirical right? I can't imagine any other explanation.

Quite a lot, yeah. And they usually get touted around as proof that GG isn't sexist. I think that whole "Not Your Shield" thing was a campaign by GGers who weren't white men.

Oh, that makes sense. I haven't really followed the whole thing closely because I wasn't trying to raise my blood pressure over harassment over video games.

A little disconcerting that women would join in in their own harassment.

I mean... the film wasn't that bad... The winners from previous years seem to be focused on dramatic stuff- which I have no interest in watching. His video was more entertaining to me than theirs.

I still can't understand why so much of Reddit thinks "social justice" is a bad thing.

I'm not sure why you don't understand it.

Social justice causes people (especially straight white guys) to look inward and wonder to what degree their own privileges have helped them. This is pretty scary, because it suggests that their accomplishments weren't achieved by talent alone. A lot of people feel that mentions of privilege are attacks, and that these people must hate them for being white, straight, and/or a dude.

In addition, a lot of guys don't feel like they have any privilege. If you're a 22-year-old kissless virgin with few friends and a shitty apartment, and have never catcalled a woman, how dare those damn feminazis claim you have more power than they do?

The fact that some people described as SJWs do take an antagonistic or hateful approach doesn't really help things, but the main reason for bad feelings toward social justice are insecurity.

This is weird that the whole response is basically to distance himself and not reflect bad on Gamergate. People who have associated themselves with Gamergate have done enough to tie it firmly to this whole anti-SJW movement as far as I can tell, and that's bad enough as it is.

He says he just wanted to make the films that he wants to see yet his rant completely discredits people as "having an agenda" when they probably have the same intentions of making the kind of films they want to see. The lack of self-awareness continues.

edit: Okay, the guy ends with tipping his fedora. I have to think the whole Reddit rant and this response video is a troll for attention. I can't believe this guy is for real at this point.

NEVER TURN BACK AND NEVER BACK DOWN. I agree that he's an idiot for leaving those in as they were, but that's probably how it happened.

They only harass women that don't conform. The minorities on the inside are fine as long as they leave their identity at the door and toe the line.

I think it was a SquareEnix game, maybe Rocket Slime, because it was on one of those old viral marketing sites where you did activities and made videos and earned points. I was on another one for Dragon Quest VIII and Red Steel. Won a lot of shit in those things haha

I was expecting it to be a more middling game, but Rocket Slime is fantastic

Definitely worth having an embarrassing video exist :0

I couldn't watch very much of it but I think the guy quoted in the OP hasn't seen much more than me cause what he described and what I saw were two very different things.

It was our own world, where video game and anime tropes were real, were old men handed out swords and quests, and you had to pay rent and buy food with loot.
This sounds like every shitty D&D campaign ever.

Why in God's name do these people keep calling us "Social Justice Warriors" as if that's not the coolest and most righteous sounding name ever?

Maybe we should, out of fairness, give them a similarly inspiring name. Instead of "bigots," why not "Keepers of the Old Ways" or "Defenders of the Halcyon Times" or "Knights of the White Camelia."

Oh wait, someone already took that last one.

Yeah, but that's what gets me. They would trade their natural dominant identity as female for gamer. It just doesn't compute with me.

It's because they're not the ones being harassed. There are a lot of women who are really into the whole moderate liberal Reddit gamersphere (I've known several), and they often really want to fit in.

I love this post.

Nope someone messed with the footage, it is a huge conspiracy. He has a version he wants the public to see, I for one can not wait.

I didn't go to film school, but...

I don't think the guy who made it did either.

This just made me dread what kind of films will be submitted to my school film fest after we more or less decided to open it up to anyone who is attending the school and took a film class before.

Damn. Peer pressure's a bitch.

Can't watch because I'm at work, but can someone describe how this compares to Lust in the time of Heartache? Is it somehow even worse? (That's the only other gamergater "film" that I've seen).

I really wish there was an online video of the student film I was a part of when I was in college. Because it was probably better (I'm obviously biased) than what I just watched. And we only had about 10 hours to film over 3 days and maybe another 10 hours of editing and post-effects work. None of us were film students, we were all just taking the class to get to fool around with the university film equipment and green room. Super fun class though. We did not win any competitions, but we did get an A in the class.

You know, I don't think this is as GG related as it is he's just trying to stir shit up to get people to flood the judges with negativity. I mean, it's clear he honestly tried to make a film rather than simply a statement.
