The Order 1886 | Impressions Thread of not shooting the messenger.

Got my copy, so happy.

You can pause the cutscenes. In fact I've done it a number of times because to adjust the gamma, since some scenes are too dark, while others are fine, and would look washed out if I raised the gamma any more. So I was playing around with the gamma throughout the game.

Hrmmm ok well that's a little better. I don't know why someone was saying you couldn't.

If the Xbone had launched a gears of war hd collection this month I would have happily traded my ps4 and this in for it.

This is sad. When the hell did re-releases of old games become system sellers? We've had so many of them lately now we've got people begging for ones that haven't even been announced instead of a sequel or a new IP.

Probably because they didn't see it in the YouTube play through they watched.

Alright so I finally beat it, it took me at least over 9-10 hours playing on Hard. Died a couple of times so had to re-do certain areas. This is an add-on to the impressions I shared earlier so I guess you can call this my final impressions

Overall I feel the games main issue is pacing. There are some gameplay gripes as well that I mentioned but I feel like this is the biggest thing.

The shootouts are fun albeit simplistic but in the beginning they are spread far too thin. They share the spotlight a bit to much with downtime moments and cutscenes. Where I feel far later in the game they hit that right balance all the way down to the conclusion.

The story is overall pretty good and sets up the universe perfectly for future story lines and sequels. The storyline however also suffers from pacing issues and I feel that it didn't really hook me until later in the game

Personally if you are into these types of games (heavily story driven) then definitely go for it. If you are looking for a TPS but not very much into the story aspects within games this may not be for you. If you dislike heavily story driven games and linearity in general avoid.

Can't wait to see where they take the franchise next hopefully there will be many improvements.

Thanks for your impressions. I get the feel that the community response will heavily influence the sequel. I can't wait to play it.

The point I'm trying to make is that only last ten we had a TPS with similar cover system that launched with more gameplay and MP.
This has none of that.

Right but we also had Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. A short, simple, SP only, cinematic TPS published by Sony relatively early in the gen that pushed visuals and launched a highly successful franchise. Obviously success is yet to be determined but the rest describes The Order perfectly.

I think Drake's Fortune had a lot more going for it than The Order though, scaling environments, actual puzzles and a fair amount of things to do with collectible treasures and a platinum that will take a while to get.

Here's the statue of the CE:

I need to find another statue for the other side to make it like a bookshelf holder. (something like the MK CE).

Game has a 500mb+ patch.

I agree but a lot has happened between then. Both of those franchises launched with multiple sequels with MP.
I feel sorry for the devs reading these comments because I'm sure they poured a lot of time and effort into this but this game is not a patch on what was previewed at PS4 launch.

I expect a sequel to this game to have MP, if it happens.

I'm not sure what your second paragraph means.

Plat that takes a while to get doesn't really mean anything. Had the Order required you to clear Normal to unlock Hard, and completing Hard is what gets plat, that easily pads the plat achievement by double for no other reason than to make it longer.

As for the other factors, it's all relative to the developer and their vision of the game. One may not like the heavy cinematics focus, the QTE interactive cutscenes or even their choice of a highly linear story-focused shooter, but that is no practically no different from Uncharted's design design of environment scaling, set-pieces, arena style combat levels, etc.

I'm just saying Uncharted 1 had a better foundation to leap into Uncharted 2, with The Order this is as basic as you can get, if they do make a sequel there'd need to be a lot of added substance to the gameplay.

Man, why can't the screen capture function on ps4 take proper shots instead of scaling them. They look like shit.

(unless I'm totally missing something)

Ugh I need to stop visiting this thread. I have three midterms next Tuesday, back to back and I told myself to not touch the game until afterwards. I'll buy it on Friday on PSN since I game share with my bf and I want him to be able to play when I bury my head in econometrics and finance shit. But I know that the second it's finished downloading I won't be able to resist the temptation to spend "30 minutes" to check out the graphics. That'll turn into 3 hours, then before I know it would have studied nothing this weekend ;__;
Ugh life is hard you guys

As someone who has played both I don't know how you can say UC1 had a better foundation to build from than The Order. UC1 is as basic as it gets. Pretty cutscenes, automatic platforming, solid TPS but with bullet sponges AI and unimaginative set pieces, short campaign with no MP. There is no more substance in UC1 than the Order.

I can feel the Order 1886 to become the Uncharted Drakes Fortune of the PS4 era, a brand new ip with vast potential, which will then go on to be perfected to great lengths in a sequel. Hope the sales of Order 1886 is convincing enough for SCE WWS to allow RAD to make the definitive sequel!
I'll be more than fine with that, Drake's fortune is my favourite uncharted.

Well, if you told me UC2 was going to come out of UC1, I would've laughed at you.

Gotta say I'm proud of myself. Haven't watched any footage even though I want so so so bad.

*pat myself in the back*

Two more days.

Drake's handy pocket book, which is a joy to flip through and the smattering of puzzles that go on to become a staple of the series would make me say otherwise, and although the platforming and climbing is mostly automatic, it's still offers more freedom than The Order.

I think it's the impressive set pieces that really make UC2 so special, that entire train sequence start to end was glorious.

Wait you played it?

Nope, I just watched playmethrough's playthrough, but unless there's some hidden gameplay elements or features or mechanics he somehow missed out on I can still tell you that The Order has very basic gameplay and that I personally think Uncharted had a better base to build from.
