Sony's management of the PS4 UI has been atrocious

Im just pissed with lack of communication and god awful lack of updates. It looks like MS actually listens, and I wish Sony would approach updates similarly
 
I never liked the XMB in the PS3 and don't like this one either. I agree, give us the freedom to at least customize the tiles.

100% agreed.
New xbone owner here and holy shit is that UI a piece of shit. Maybe it's better if you have a kinect but my current experience with it is just ugggh. Everything on it is a mess, it's slow, everything is buried under apps or menus, clunky, and difficult to navigate. The only thing it has going for it is that it looks nice
 
I dunno, I sit down turn on the PS4 to play a game, and can do that.
I don't WANT to spend time in the UI, even if it was amazing.

Please try to understand your opinion that the "UI has been atrocious" is tied up with one or other relatively minor feature you feel is missing but many don't care about.

So you want media centre function, or to suspend a game (that mostly auto-saves all the time anyway), and are pissed it isn't there. Well, maybe they spent the time on something different that you don't care about? who knows. It doesn't really matter. As long as the console launches games reliably the rest is just nice to have stuff. It is a game console, not the centre of your home. How is the media-center functionality and UI coming along on that smart TV you paid $2k for ? not really there either, right ? but that's ok, because it is a TV and whatever apps or functions it provides on are really just bonus features.

Perhaps when the Sony first party studios are firing on all cylinders, and the console has had a price drop and a 2nd version and the digital licensing is all flawless etc etc, you should ask now how about improving the UI. Until then, it is a low priority and that's fine.

I'm sorry but this is really silly too.

What does that have anything to do with system UI improvements? It's not like the same people work on different aspects of the system.

The UI seems great to me light and snappy. I think you may be referring to the OS. Now, that could use DLNA, and the suspend feature I agree. Hopefully soon.

DNLA. I barely know what it is and certainly don't give a shit about it. Both my TV and receiver care DNLA capable and I've not once used the feature. I doubt many people pass over the PS4 because it's not there.

Suspend would be nice. Hoping that's coming soon.
 
Sometimes I wonder what people who start threads just to complain about the UI on handhelds/consoles would be happy with, and if they got that, if it would just cause another group of people to start posting threads complaining about the change in the way that console/handhelds UI looks.

If I think about it too long, I pop a couple of Ibuprofen and watch old episodes of Supernatural to clear my mind.
 
Huge step back from the XMB. Can't organize games in folders, excessive amounts of scrolling, extra button presses because all the software has its own "page".
 
I prefered XMB to PS4's UI.

Honestly, I'd like to see some console guys take notes from Steam's Big Picture Mode. Easy and fast to find content, excellent library sorting, no extra nonsense.
 
Strongly disagree, i think the UI is great. I love the layout and how responsive it is.

New features are not really related to the UI. Disappointing that they haven't yet delivered, but they started with the bar already pretty high.
 
I hope they see your post OP and don't change a thing. Love it. I turn it on and get where I want to be easy as pie. No lag and no clunkiness.
 
meh it's missing features but otherwise it performs far better than anything else and is far more quick and responsive which is honestly the main thing.

Agree'd here. It's much better than the XMB and everything feels more connected. The live titles are pretty cool too.
 
I have never been a fan of the idea of having folders on every device, I always found the constant request baffling but on the PS4 UI it needs them.

There is nothing wrong with the home UI particularly its just very simple, I don't care about Music Unlimited so I would rather not have it on there tbh but having all the stuff on my console as one long list seems ill thought out, they could easily have 2/3 rows and still have the "Start, overview etc" menu come up when you move the cursor over it
 
This thread makes me love PS4s UI more than I already do....most of these suggestions I either don't care about (Suspend, DNLA) or think are terrible (Folders ughhhh having everything in a row cuts out the middle man...folders are a step back!!!!)
 
The PS4 UI is a mess, it becomes incredibly cluttered and unorganized once you have more than a few things installed.

The Vita's UI is so much better.
 
The UI is fine for me. It's the glacial speed of features, fixes and customization coming that is a fucking ridiculous joke at this point.

the common factor is money.
you pay for developers. A budget means they are linked. Spend more on one thing and spend less elsewhere.

Simple is not bad. It gets done what needs to be done. Compared to XB1's UI it can feel plain jane, but it's fast moving in and out of things.

We just have to deal with what we have since Sony is not keen on overhauling its UI every couple years like MS.
 
One thing that would improve the UI tremendously is to have the library icon be the leftmost icon instead of the rightmost.
 
Can't believe collapsing the games into the Library was their way of addressing the no folders issue. When I turn on my PS3 it hurts to see how PS4'S UI turned out.
 
I feel like the PS4 needs I would say 3 big firmware patches still. It has a good base, but a lot of shit isn't very intuitive, or clunky, or slow.
 
The UI itself is fine, very clean, with your last played game one click away. It doesn't try to sell you anything on the main page either. Agree that they should be adding promised features though, I've no idea how it's taken them over a year to figure out how to suspend gameplay and go into standby.
 
I don't mind the UI it's the lack of or really the slow development of System features like the Suspend and Resume feature, when the fudge is that coming out.
 
I agree, the UI is bad. But it would not be that much of an issue if we had gotten the ability to customize shit by now, which we have not outside of the terrible themes on the store.

Give me the ability to have custom wallpapers, manage my icons through folders and have custom MP3 music(that i can store on the HDD) played on the home screen already!

I've heard that the UI team is based in Japan. I guess that explains it? It seems like they are completely tone deaf to any real complaints or suggestions about what to add and in what timeframe
 
Would have been killer if they had just built upon and improved XMB. It was so slick and stylish seeing and using it last gen. PS4 is decently functional but feels and looks so cheap and bland. Really just adding some simple customizations here and there would make a world of difference.
