Just to clarify, with Skylines I can follow a sim round and they have a house and a job? Not just random sims like SC5? I know about the traffic problems and I'm fine with it. Any sting it might have is softened considerably by allowing mods.
Yep. In the stream with Quill18 they go into this. Your sim will have a job and a house, which they keep unless something happens (e.g. house is demolished, work goes out of business, etc.).
Great stuff thanks.
(OMG not junior anymore excite)
Also, just found this quote on the FAQ:
How will citizen simulations work?
Every citizen in your city will be simulated. They have persistent homes and jobs, and they will try to find the best travel route to their destinations. Education and land value changes may influence a citizen to change their home or job though.

Paradox.
Consider me sold.
They don't consistently publish good games, but ok.
They have a far better track record than most, imo.
They don't put out as many games as most.
I'm still on the fence for this, mostly for performance concerns. A Paradox published game made on Unity raises some flags there.
On this talk of DX12, what improvements could we see in city building games with this?
Cheers.
Cheers. It reads like my perfect game, SC5 has me keeping it at arm's length until release though. Damn you EA. Loving every bit of info about Skylines though (except the name ha.)
More realistic and/or just general performance improvement when having a huge city with a ton of shit on screen.People are referring to the ability to push more draw calls with DX12. With the expanded amount of draw calls, the simulation can be more realistic. As was said earlier in the thread, the ideal simulation is an agent-based simulation that perfectly simulates real life.
What I still wonder is how they differentiate in commuting/work/free time and the time progretion of the game. A day lasts a few seconds ingame so a cim will spend "days" in commute. Not a criticism but something I wonder.
Are industry companies only productive while employees are at work? So is there a higher productivity if the cims have as short a commute as possible?
I probably should ask those question over at the paradox forums![]()
Paradox.
Consider me sold.
Those are the sort of things I'm wondering about. One of the limitations of this game that I don't like is that there seems to be no day/night cycle. I don't know how this affects things like rush hour.
I've seen this sentiment expressed a lot, but having never owned a Paradox published game I'm not really sure what makes them so great. Would anyone care to go into some detail?

We'll be hosting an AMA over at /r/IAmA[1] on February 25th, the main topic will be more details about modding but other questions are of course accepted. So if you have something I've failed to answer in the sticky please bring it here!
We go live at 18:00 CET and will feature CO CEO Mariina Hallikainen, programmer Damien Morello, artist/game designer Henri Haimakainen and myself (mostly the former 3, though).
Prepare your questions; sharpen your metaphorical swords and get ready to be informed.
Cheers, John
When it comes to the quality of Paradox games, I can only recommend the recent AngryJoe (if you can stand him) Interview with the Paradox Bosses. He asks some hard questions and they are very open about how their QA a few years ago was pretty shit (Sword of the Stars 2) and how they improved it now.

plus I liked how TotalyMoo (Community Manager) emphasized in an interview posted above, how he tries to keep the hype down and not create false expectations....

Play Cities In Motion series. They are good (albeit small) team of devs there. Passionate about what they do but they make stable products.
Cool, looking forward to it.Recorded the interview this morning. It's a little over 30 minutes long and pretty much ALL of the questions were answered. We'll be playing the interview this Saturday during our radio show, In-Game Chat. You can listen live online or watch the show on Twitch.
That's some beautiful DoF. I love how the game has this realistic, miniature look to it when zoomed in.Another 21:9 shot from TotallyMoo. There's also going to be another Dev Dairy (probably on modding) released alongside the AMA

I spy a Space Elevator.
I really want to believe this is the next coming of sim city 4 but I've been burned so many times before. Not sure if I should pre-order or not. If it is the next coming I would like to get those pre-order bonus items. If it is not the next coming I would like to have my 30 dollars to spend on something else.
