I can live without Resurrection, but as controversial as Alien 3 is, it provided a perfect ending to the franchise, so I'm not ok about removing it from canon.

This is good news, Alien 3 / Alien Resurrection can be like Jaws 3 and 4 and pretend they don't exist (I actually liked Jaws 2 :p).

Thank god! Resurrection can finally go to the abyss where it belongs.

Alien 3 wasn't as bad, but had too many problems.

And then when this one turns out terrible people will have options as to which shitty canon they choose to believe! A choose your own adventure of unfortunate sequels.

That's great to hear and gives me more hope for this project.

Can we disregard Prometheus while we're at it?

while I think Alien 3 has its merits, branching the timeline for a reboot post Aliens is the right call for a new Aliens movie at this point.

They could easily play it off as some type of dream sequence in Ripley's head when she is in cryo-sleep after Aliens or something.

Is it the right decision? Not necessarily. But I'm still excited as hell. Cannot wait.

The last thing any media company wants is an end to a major franchise.
