Samsung Galaxy S6 & S6 Edge Event - March 1st.

SD card removal is a big deal. I don't have a lot of music, but games and movies are a different story. Even though 128gb is available, for someone buying a phone off contract, I'm sure that model is going to be in the $900+ range and that's more than what I'm willing to spend on a phone.

I don't get the hate for the sd slot removed, especially with high onboard storage.

Guys, YOU CANT PUT GAMES OR APPS ON AN SD CARD ON ANDROID (unless you root, which I find little reason to do).

I have never once changed out a battery. Think about it, even your local bus and train has outlets these days. I have a spare micro usb charger in my car, and since it's not proprietary (like Apple), other people in my car can use it.

We get more storage, cut a feature we don't need (battery removable) and gain a vastly better design

These two phones seem to go against everything Samsung has been doing these past few years.

It's kind of funny.

That's why I like it, they've made a phone that appeals to me. I normally hate Samsung phones and their ultra cheap build quality, but they really stepped things up this time.

The type of plan should absolutely (unfortunately) be a factor.

What if you have 1GB or less? (as some people actually do :( ) You just don't have the data to utilize the extra functionality a smartphone provides.

What an absurd statement.

You seem consistently completely oblivious to anyone whose usage patterns are different from yours.
Newsflash - people's usages are different.

I like how you think.

For absurdly high prices. I have a ton of music, and want to be able to keep it on my device.

I've also never understood the argument that someone needs 64gb of music on them at all times.

I can see why MicroSD would be preferred in that situation. But for most people - with much less music, a good signal/on wifi - it's not needed. Decent internal storage (32gb is definitely decent) can get them by better, faster, and with less drain on a battery. Cloud storage comes in for those who absolutely want more media than the internal storage can provide. I think that if most people re-examine their usage habits, they'll find that they can adapt reasonably well.

I'm in the military and I deploy, a lot. I don't have the luxury of always being near a WiFi hot spot (and if I am, it's usually not very reliable).

That's why I still carry all of my music on an iPod Classic. I have over 9,000 songs on my iPod. Do I listen to all of them, no, but I'd rather have the option to pick and choose what I want to listen to on the fly, then go through all those songs and picking and choosing and creating playlists.

You realize not everyone has access to cloud services at all times right? Not to mention people with capped data plans.

You're fine with being charged like another $200-300 to have the same space that a $30-40 microSD card can give you?

Battery I don't give a fuck about as it's true, I tend to have my phone plugged in everywhere I go. But the MicroSD card is the deal breaker for me.

Yeah it sucks, so I had to upload all my music onto Google Music, which now gives you 50k songs for free.

While the margins are ridiculous, internal NAND is a ton faster than microSD.

But you can put all your media files on the micro SD, which for many people is the main space hogger. Batteries also die out, not much fun trying to fix that now. Using public outlets as a charging solution is also far inferior to just switching the battery anywhere you are and getting 100% charge instantly.

While the margins are ridiculous, internal NAND is a ton faster than microSD.

But the price =/= the improvements. This fucking exponential increase in price due to speed increases that most people won't give a fuck about is ridiculous. The ONE improvement I could see for myself on a day to day basis of not having to use a microSD card is that my Galaxy S4 keeps ejecting my SD card every now and again and then it has to recognize all the music once more which takes 5 minutes but that's issues with the phone not the card.

And yet there are plenty of phones out there that are thinner or have a subjectively better design and have a Micro SD card slot (even HTC's new phone).

Also higher storage models are very rare in a number of markets and on contract. Also much more expensive for minimal gain.

Removable battery doesn't matter too much unless it's under 3000mAh which this is.

For me I won't care. If I end up getting a GS6 I won't have it for longer than a year max. For alot of other people I guess. I know a few people who have GS3s and 4s that have shit battery and I tell them to replace it with a new one that think about it and are just like eh? I'll upgrade soon anyway.

Well it also helps the because of the new way Android deals with SD cards since Kitkat is alot less accessible. Very limited use of apps to sd, modifying files on an sd, etc. Internal storage is much preferred. over SD. The only issue is price. How much the spike from 32 to 64 is and 64 to 128.

Google music is great, I use it exclusively on my phone. However I still download all my playlist from google music to my phone since It's much more convenient to have my music constantly available rather then to depend on network availability and data restrictions. NO Micro sd card, no buy for me. It does look better then the S5 though.

They do? They don't here.

How does that work when I'm on my way to work?

Not just music, can be photo's, videos, important documents etc...

Cloud storage and streaming uses more battery than an SD card does.

I think it depends on how much you stream. Personally, I keep nearly everything synced to the cloud, photos, music, videos, documents .etc. Music streaming works wonders for me with Google Play All Access. And when I have to retrieve something that's in the cloud, I don't do it often enough where I'll burn through all my data.

For me, I prefer this, not because I don't have a phone with a microsd slot, but because I never have to manage any of it. It's for the convenience. I rarely ever plug in my phone to copy photos, or videos, or music. Google Play manages all my music, I don't use anything on my PC to organize my music collection, because it's all there, and accessible on my phone.

Which bus are you on that has outlets lol. This phone is a disaster, as expected.

My Note 4 gets 6-7 hours of SoT but I still keep a second battery. I never like my phone tethered to a wall.

Regardless I'll hold my complaints until the event as there might be a chance they could wow us with pricing on the internal storage. I'm willing to eat crow if the 64GB phone isn't that much more expensive than a 32GB option. The issue then becomes the decision to use such a small fucking battery and how much the battery life sucks.

As of right now, chances are I'm going with the M9. It has the battery life, it has the SD card, and the Sense UI has always been praised. The camera might be shit but usually I don't take pics with my phone so I really don't care.

The LG G4 should be announced within the next 1-2 months and then I'm basically going to read reviews and decide what I go with.

I'm betting on $200, $300, and $400 for the S6 and $300, $400, $500 for the S6 Edge ( on contract)

I'm legit surprised most people here don't have a portable USB charger. Yea it's kind of intrusive carrying one around especially if it's a big one, but I can charge my phone, Vita, and Tablet using it. So convenient.

If this is the case I won't get one at all. I need the 64GB and I'm not paying $100 for it. $50 is the sweet spot.

I keep a 12,000 mah dual device charger in my bag and it has been a lifesaver on trips and has already paid for itself in free drinks from fellow travelers. :)

Holy shit, I cannot believe some people are defending the choice to get rid of the microSD slot! You can't defend this, and this is coming from an iOS enthusiast.

I was speaking about SD cards relative to internal storage.

It almost sounds like you're saying "maybe you shouldn't get a smart phone because the world is going the data plan way of cloud based" and that's silly considering I still have options for MicroSD smartphones.

Well I said this smartphone. I pretty clearly stated before that if you absolutely can't live with it, then you have other options that better suit your needs.

What an absurd statement.

You seem consistently completely oblivious to anyone whose usage patterns are different from yours.
Newsflash - people's usages are different.

I stated that having a low data cap limits the amount you can take advantage of the extra functionality a smartphone provides. How is that anything close to an absurd statement? It's completely true.

And I blatantly stated that you have the options with Android to choose a phone that fits your needs.

Do any Android devices with Lollipop preinstalled have removable batteries?

Did the current Nexus phone set the guidelines/baseline of this generation since N6 also does not have a removable battery nor a micro SD card?

Wondering what happened here.

Google hates SD cards. They pretty much indirectly state fuck SD cards when they changed how they worked in KK.

So pay 300 extra bucks for more storage or 20-60 bucks?

I'll take the sd slot.

I'm going to get a note 4 and upgrade my 64gb sd card to a 128 which will only be 90 bucks. Plus how much ever space is on my note 4.

While you're stuck possibly only 100gb once Sammy gimps that storage. Enjoy relying on the cloud and having Google looking at your dick pictures.

But when your data craps out and the wifi is no longer available, tell me what you're going to do brother.

MICROSD'AMANIA IS RUNNING WILD!

There are Lollipop phones which have removable batteries.

If that's the case, then this design philosophy will become the trend.

having an iPhone and a Macbook and having a cat spill a glass of water over the latter, the fact that i can't simply remove the battery from the device and let it dry, hoping it isn't completely broken.

As for "changing a full battery for a drained one" - there's mobile powerbanks that are device-agnostic and will charge your tablet, your phone, your camera and have a far bigger capacity of any single phone's battery. - so i don't think many will miss being able to swap out batteries because they drained their phone on the go.

Some people travel and prefer to have an entire collection with them. Also some people have music in flac(myself) not that mp3 trash so they need space.

Waiting on camera impressions for low light shots.

I think I will consider this phone if it shoots comparable to the iPhone 6+ or high-end Nokia Lumia phones.

There are a few, mostly in Asia.

But Lollipop 5 hasn't come pre installed on many phones so far. There will be loads coming with removable batteries shortly.

That's why some people waiting to upgrade their phones looked forward to this event. Unsurprisingly, people are left disappointed.

We will see.
