Indie Games 2015 [February] Now Voting - Post 556!

Hope i'm not putting too much up - there are a lot of pay to play games that i know there is no way i can afford to buy to play them all.

I have been only putting up stuff that i genuinely think might be decent.
Hey, I really appreciate your posts here. For a bit, I was one of the main people posting stuff so it's nice to see others posting about interesting releases

Glad to help :)

It's been my first proper month looking at new indie releases and i've been pretty overwhelmed by the amount of games coming out

Dure there is some(to me anyway) dross being released but the number of games that look interesting to play is quite staggering.

Welcome to the world of indies. I literally find something new, either released or in-development, every day.

Too many games, not enough time or money.

Has anyone picked up Oblitus? I am curious about the length and amount of content. The game looks awesome but if it is really short I will probably just wait for a sale.

Phawx posted impressions and gameplay a few pages back. Give me a sec

Edit: here you go
My Let's Play of Oblitus:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-N3o1vuMF4

Quick Impressions:
Oblitus is a 2D Roguelike Soulslike game whose combat is entirely focused on the use of spears. There are four bosses and (IIRC correctly, I can't seem to find the data anymore) twenty two enhancements that are really kind of necessary. My first ever boss encounter, I only managed to find "Light Armor" which did shit all against the boss. What's worse is you get locked into the fight, so you better be a super quick learner or else you are most definitely going to get the "You Have Died" screen. And it is permadeath.

The levels are pseudo-procedurally generated. I say that because, I noticed that while my runs weren't completely the same, I did notice very familiar terrain patterns and obstacles. So it's more like it's cookie-cutter puzzle pieces that fit together very well randomly.

The combat is kind-of tight. For sure throwing your spear is super satisfying and the feedback you get from expertly drilling a monster in the forehead is spot-on. You don't need to fetch your spear after you throw it, you just need to wait until a set amount of time has passed. Blocking and parrying are fine and work well. It's mostly just the movement and stabbing that are more-or-less hamfisted. The feel of the close-combat is just off. There isn't any weight to it, you'll only get some bogus feedback if a monster parries you correctly, but if you are just machine-gunning the shins of monsters there is no fatigue, so it's more or less just an annoying obstacle.

There are, however, bigger monsters that do require you to be on your toes and fight with strategy or retreat to smaller alcoves that they cannot trespass.

The art and sound design are quite lovely though. Visually and acoustically the themes blend very naturally.

Even though I think the combat could be better, I do find this game incredibly fun and interesting.

Good news, guys! Remember how we were practically begging Linssen to bring some of his games to other platforms? Well, I learned that The Sun & Moon is coming to PS Vita!

I know the feeling. What helped me was getting into social media. Devs retweeting reviews, etc. Takes a while before you start seeing more views.

Idk, I just feel like nice reviews like yours deserve a better place than just being another Steam review (no offense). Especially the reviews for indie games. I may have a really small blog, but sometimes my reviews might be on the first or second page of Google results because there are so few reviews for some lesser-known indies.
Alright well despite everything I said I ended up making a site today: http://kritiqal.com/

Will still be posting reviews on Steam, but will add a link to my site in them so everyone is happy (except for the people who get mad at my reviews, there's no pleasing them).

On topic: I don't remember signing up for an email alert or Death's Gambit, but wow am I glad I did. Looks brilliant!

What would you do if suddenly people are turning into violent mutants? Spending your days at home waiting for everything to get solved was an option but you have already done that for a long time and are now out of supplies.
What happens next is up to you : your objective is to escape from the city and (if you are curious enough) discover what actually happened.
To do so, you are free to explore a city full of dangers where your decisions will make the difference between life and death.
Interact with NPCS with different personalities who wish to survive as much as you. Will you give them the chance?
Be prepared, every bullet counts.

Some screen updates

Voting For The Best 10 Games i was lucky enough to play

1 - Besiege - Killing sheep has never been so much, thats if you can build anything that doesn't snap into pieces when you try to turn. A diploma in engineering isn't necessary but I reckon it helps if the many amazing youtube videos out there are anything to go by.
2 - Echoes+ - Do you like frantic twin stick shooters? Yes then don't bother reading further load up steam and get echoes+ now. If your not sure just get it anyway and in no time you will be blasting away in this brilliant arcade blaster.
3 - Just Get Through - Jump mechanics take a bit of getting used to but once you get round the slightly loose controls there is an enjoyable game in there
4 - An Untitled Story - Nice metrovoidian
5 - Drive To Hell - Spy Hunter on drugs
6 - Elders of Madness - Old School Throwback Sidescrolling Shooter with 8bit graphics and plenty of gameplay
7 - iO - Interesting and well presented puzzler with a twist. Well worth giving the demo a go to get the feeling of the game
8 - Colony.Exe - Fun little waste of 30m. The design and feel of the game makes you wanting more – if the programmer wanted to take it further I am sure there would be a decent game ready to come out.
9 - Haemo - Another good game in a ever growing list of excellent indies from Daniel Linssen. Can't wait for more fully fleshed out indies to give the dev the hits he deserves.
10 - All The Way Down - A short point and click adventure with decent voice acting and hauntingly atmospheric audio. A story that quickly draws you in and leaves you wanting more at the end

I think the following games really deserve a mention though

I haven't played them due to lack of funds, i reckon they all have something to offer and given enough funds i reckon some of them would have easily made my top ten!!!

Avernum 2, Earthtongue, Forward To The Sky, Infinifactory, Overture, Quasi, Stardust Vanguards, The Depths of Tolagal, The Next Penelope, Tiny Trek, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries

The following are still in early development but well worth a mention and definitely games to keep a lookout for the future.

NeuroIDE - A maths related puzzler that also in it's early stages of development – nicely designed so far – one to watch in the future
Splasher - A game still in development with only a demo available but whats there is pretty decent, a simple platformer with a nice paintgun twist.
The Spooky Cave - It's in it's very early stages no music or configurations options but what there is enough to want more – a decent pixel graphic looking rougelike.

Yeah it was confirmed a little while back! I'm still trying to get him to make a Linssen collection to Vita!

Ninjahtic - $2.99 (PC)

http://blazeepic.com/ninjahtic.html

Ninjahtic is an action/adventure platformer with elements of puzzle-solving and stealth. While it's progression is linear, the open-ended nature of every level requires exploration of an abandoned civilization located atop floating islands. Usage of the environment also plays a key role when solving puzzles and dispatching enemy robots throughout

Finally picked up The Talos Principle, Infinifactory and Grow Home and I've just been having a blast with those this weekend. Such amazing games. I need friends for infinifactory leaderboards. I suppose I can ask in the OT but is there anyone here I can add?

Btw is there a 2014 indie GOTY thread going? Toma do you have a personal top 2014 indie games list?

Random aside, I am having a hard time containing my anticipation for Cities Skylines. 8 more days.

Not much played at all last month - sorry Toma! - but I still managed to play a few bits.

Stuff I actually played...

Artificial Immunity

Big time meh on this one. Reminds me a little of Ziggurat on iOS but not as good.

Besiege

This is the best one I played this month, even if I'm the worst engineer in the entire world. It's beautiful, well made and allows for expression that very few other games do. Well priced and highly recommended.

Haemo

Now I really wanted to like this. I really love Linssen's work but this one was a little lost on me. Fast paced, interesting and unique look but the mechanic doesn't work for me, especially when the enemies are white and you can't see them. Plus they respawn in between deaths which kind of sucks.

Naut

Yeah this was ok; great look, good atmosphere but not enough for me to really sink my teeth into.

As I said; I've not been gaming much this past month - what time I have had to play has gone on War Thunder and Counter Strike: GO....

March, though, is going to be a great month for games!

And this looks great, really damn great.

Toma, should I post the weekend's Screenshot Saturday in this thread or wait for the March thread?

Waiting I suppose, I wanted to get it up tonight, but work keeps me busy currently as servers sometimes decide to burn.

I'll see how far I can get tonight but I want it up tomorrow.

Saw these over on the steam thread

Wildfire

NEON STRUCT

Have they been mentioned before?

NEON STRUCT has an original Deus EX vibe.

Random aside, I am having a hard time containing my anticipation for Cities Skylines. 8 more days.

So do I, though it won't run on my laptop :(

Red Goddess featured in Unreal Engine Sizzle Reel GDC 2015 video, please take a look:

Thank you so much guys for your support!

Congrats!
