PlayStation 4 hits 20.2 million units sold worldwide (high sodium content warning)

Some companies give platform splits on their software in their fiscal reports, as Konami did last quarter. That's why he was able to mention Metal Gear as a specific example.

Having said that, the PC port also came late. Not as good as a comparison.

I'm using publically available data made available by the publishers themselves, I'm on my phone right now so I can't provide any sources, but I'm pretty sure plenty of posters can.

I see, fair enough then.

This must be a joke/parody post..surely.

Well, from the looks of it almost all the major PS4 games are cross-gen, while the ones exclusive to it are so far appear to be sub-par from what many say, like Knack, Driveclub, and the Order.

Not that I am not enjoying the console, but yeah, in terms of that "next-gen" experience so far PS4 has been a pretty major disappointment for me, though stuff like Transistor definitely helped, but even stuff like Rogue Legacy and stuff are not really exclusive to the console.

Currently playing: Dead or Alive Last Round, GTA V, Wolfenstein New Order, TLOU Remastered, Diablo III Reaper of Souls, Infamous SS and Dying Light (these two are *only* real legit "next-gen" games I own and the latter is not exclusive). Man, if only PS2 games are playable on PS4.................................

Nintendo's Pro Bono PR Firm
XBox One at 10 and Wii U at 8? What are the latest figures?

It's a new PS2 era. EDIT: except now Sony has the best hardware.

I really can't believe they accomplished this many sales. I think even they are a little flabbergasted by this. I'm certain they will continue to try and capitalize on it.

That's pretty insane compared to the weaksauce library

What is this? 2003?

If PS4 library is "weaksauce" then so is Microsofts considering they have 95% of the same games. Most gamers purchase these systems for the multiplatform games, not the exclusives anyway.

Breh, what you talking about? Resolution doesn't matter remember.

Goddamit, people are crazy, i'll never understand why everyone still buying PS4. I still don't see any good reason to do this by myself, sorry.

DC is sub-par? :p

Yeah really, I wonder where he/she got that from. DC is fing ace!

2015 year of the PS4 reconfirmed! Hope it'll stay this strong and will manage to even pick up some steam in the 2nd half of the year, well actually I'm pretty certain it will ;)

People seem to forget, multiplats sell consoles over first party. Ps4 has that on lockdown.

Good Job Sony

I find the failure to grasp this I see on forums to be a little baffling. I thought it was pretty well known that there is a huge swathe of consumers that use a console as their primary platform to play core games on.

I can see why someone with a gaming PC would feel that the PS4 hasn't justified itself to them with exclusives but it just isn't relevant to the mass market.

A large install base means more game development confidence and more room for experimentation. I can only hope the trend of innovative independent games continues into 2015 and beyond.

I don't understand. It shouldn't be that fast. That's crazy.

Selling at the pace at about twice their closest competitor. If you look at the software library which is about twice as big you can see a pattern. More games, more sales.

Hit the nail on the head

This generation is a complete 180 degrees from last generation. Literally EVERYTHING has reversed (according to the narrative). ALL the reasons the 360 supposedly outsellingthe PS3 are being systematically forgotten, which leads to some amusing scratching of the heads from some people: Indies/Better Multiplats/Variety/Exclusives/'price'/RESOLUTION ... The list goes on.

What the internet fails to understand is that we are a very tiny minority compared to the bigger gaming community and no matter what narrative is pushed here, the majority of gamers just carry on buying consoles for the same reason they always have done.

Ah, i see that the "it doesn't deserve the sales" is back in this thread...

contributed with +1 ps4 sale last week and just shipped my ps3 to an ebay buyer.

We can also say the otherwise.
There are actually way more core gamer who use PC as their primary platform to play core games on. Steam alone have 150 million active account, that's a lot more gamer than all of the current gen console gamer combined. We all just have to accept the fact that there are people who are more comfortable to play game on console, and there are also people who are more comfortable to play on PC, or both.

It saddens me Japan's decline in consoles.

Any word on last week's PS4 and Dragon Quest Heroes sales in Japan? Hopefully that game will help getting the ball rolling. Persona 5 can't come out soon enough in Japan (or FFXV for that matter).

It doesn't matter how many accounts each platform has, publishers see different results on different platforms.

AAA games sell vastly better on consoles than PC with few exceptions like Diablo.

MMOs have a vastly higher userbase on PC than consoles with a few exceptions like FFXIV.

Publishers don't care how many accounts each platform has, they see money in MMOs on PC, & they see money in AAA games on consoles, that's all that matters to them.

That's got nothing to do with what I'm saying. The PS4 is selling well for all the right reasons and people are pretending those right reasons don't exist. It's basically ... denial (for want of a better word).

As far we know, DQ sold in the area of 85 to 90% of their first print stock (both PS3 and PS4 combined) in the first few days. I think the first shipment was over 400,000, so if i were to guess, it did pretty well

The only Sony's 'next-gen' exclusive that I have played is Second Son and I am to be honest indifferent towards the racing genre, so I am just going to what many seem to say, the reviewers I mean.

If sales are based on exclusive games then the Wii U must be.. oh wait..

Part of the reason PS4 is selling so good in lots of different markets is because of the quantity and variety of titles released each month. At least compared to the Xbone. It has it beat on that front, consistently, since launch day more or less.

This has the effect of making the PS4 the go-to current-gen console.

I'm not sure where you're getting this notion from. When the Wii was the best selling console, it was definitely because of it's exclusives.

The PS4 is selling because alot of people are ready for next gen. It's helped a lot by the fact that the WiiU is underpowered, and it's cheaper than the Xone.

Since when? the Xbox has consistently been cheaper than PS4 since 10/14.

People are now going where their friends are, which is PS4. Better multiplatform games is just a bonus.

Wii sold because of the gimmick and moms, grandparents and traditional non gamers buying it.

Wii is an anomaly. Look at the PS1, PS2, Xbox 360.

Plain incorrect in regards to the bolded.

And in regards to the Wii, the Wii is an anomaly. Casual parents and people who otherwise wouldn't buy a console got caught up in the hype of motion controls and things like Wii Sports. Check the list of best selling games each month. Heck, check the year-end sales charts. You'll quickly notice a trend. Multiplat games sell out the wazoo. Way more than exclusives do.

I love Playstation but I agree it doesn't deserve the sale... not at this point of its lifecycle. There is no noticeable game at all.

Scale of butthurt is big for someone in this thread!

So, your opinion for game you didn't touch is what reviewers say about the game? Your statement about those games can't be valid. PS4 has great games since launch, i played about 90% of exclusives. You should try Driveclub or at least, read the opinions in the official thread. You should try The Order! You should try Guilty Gear. As long your opinion is based on reviews..... NO. They won't judge what i must play.

That's pretty insane compared to the weaksauce library

As i said! Butthurt is biiiig! So good.
