Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Do Activision still have the rights to Metallica? Harmonix had to remove their Metallica tracks from Rock Band because of it.

The short answer on that one is we honestly don't know right now. Activision's contract with Aerosmith expired shortly before RB3 shut down, and on top of that, every piece of GH DLC was removed from purchase due to Activision letting their licenses expire. That being said, we won't know for sure until any tracklist announcements get made.

I sure would love a Master of Puppets album download.

Ok. And there is no export for 3?

I might have the manual for RB2 somewhere but damn that sucks. Could I just rebuy it?

I already have RB1 exported.

Thanks
3 hasn't been exported to anything, as far as 2 is concerned you can either buy an export code on eBay or just buy a new copy of RB2 (talking about the Xbox version).

I'm so, so, so happy! Man, can't wait.

And I know MS has to be happy about the DLC compatibility. Series sold better on 360 so I could see many big Rock Band fans getting an Xbox One just to play all of their tracks.

There's no export for RB3 currently, since there hasn't been a game that it could reasonably export to. I imagine Harmonix is going to pursue whatever options they have in making that possible, but that's why they're not making any formal commitments about it today.

I can't believe people expect DLC to transfer cross platform. It would never happen in anything else, why would it happen here? We're lucky we're getting access to the stuff we already purchased on the same platform.

Unless they match the new Guitar Hero controller, I know where I'm putting my money.

If they're both making games and releasing new hardware (and assuming Guitar Hero doesn't totally change the controller), the hardware should still be compatible across the games like it's been for many years on last gen.

Man I really hope we get more metal in this!

I also hope Metallica gives them a few songs for licensing now that they own all their own music. They don't need to worry about a label taking a percentage for licensing fees.

Thanks. So it looks like the best way to get the previous on-disk songs is to buy used copies of RB1 and 3 and a new copy of RB2? Not sure why RB3 is so pricey for PS3.

Used to play RB on 360, but I stopped after RB2 and only bought around 100 DLC songs, so I'm ok making the switch to PS4. Just seems like a hassle to import previous disk based tracks.

RB3 came out right as the music genre was crashing, so it sold pretty poorly and has since become hard to find. It's my understanding that the PS3 version is the rarest of the bunch.

I'm almost certain the controllers won't be the same this time around. I don't know what Rock Band are doing, but I will be hugely disappointed if it's the same 5 button layout.

If for no other reason, I can't even imagine the effort it would take to update all the previously release tracks to account for any new charting guidelines like additional buttons. I just don't see any kind of feasibility in that at all.

Tell me your solution then. If it's the standard "Harmonix account" nonsense, that's not going to fly.

You're calling a sensible solution nonsense.

What about a Harmonix Account is nonsense? Sure, it would probably have needed to be in place before everything, but why not at least do it now? What happens when Rock Band 9 comes out for some Amazon console in ten years?

No keys...at all? Like even for songs that already have it charted? Man that's lame. I fucking loved keys in RB3 and its a great way to chart "other" tracks like horns and strings that wouldn't get played otherwise. I understand that without pro keys the keyboard is functionally just a guitar but I'd still like to be able to play the key tracks...

That's what I'm thinking (worrying) about, I don't have interest in playing the new songs in HD without improved hardware, real instrument support or increased input style.

Lame.

Hah, the return of the MOAR MUSE crowd. It's like I went back in time.

I find it hilarious that people still think the reason there wasn't more Muse is because not enough people requested them.

That's too bad. Hopefully they release the old DLC at a discounted price or bundled. I'm not buying a new console just for DLC.

Haven't the pre-Rock Band 3 tracks been like a dollar for a couple years now? While I'd hope they could work out something like that for post-RB3 tracks now, I doubt it.

Xbox 360 version of RB3 is available digitally. Regular price = $20, sale price = $10.

There is no digital version of RB3 on PSN.

Sadly I never did export my RB3 tracks because it was not possible. Would have liked to carry that on. Now, with no 360, I can't ever get those tracks.

Was not expecting the DLC transfer at all considering how finicky the music industry is when it comes to rights management, so that's an awesome surprise. XB1 version for me then.

It's the same. There are pics of the PAX East limited one and Mad Catz has other pics.

Not sure why they would go changing that aspect.

Hopefully this means Guitar Hero is also making a comeback soon (that's the franchise I picked)

and who knows... DJ Hero?? that would be amazing

360 to PS4 compatibility? I understand the people hoping for a miracle but the people that seem to be annoyed....really?

Yeah, I don't know what people were expecting. I didn't really think there would be a new Rock Band, but now it exists I'm pretty excited. Stupid to get annoyed over the lack of a combined cross-gen and cross platform DLC transfer. That just was never going to happen for about a million reasons, most of which have been stated in here.

Doesn't this count as some kind of DLC port-beg? ;)

So still just a horizontal set of 5 buttons? That's hugely disappointing. Where are these pics?

Yup. Neither am I.

I'm not going to shove a "Rock Band" console into my entertainment center just for DLC. Seems pointless.

Yeah as I come down off of the excitement of the announcement, I'm coming around to this mindset. I'll probably just end up getting it for PS4 and re-buy a very limited assortment of only my very favorite DLC tracks.

Yeah a PS4 or Xbone would probably only play Rock Band right? Dont think about all those other great games you could be playing....
