Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

It sucks that they can't do 360>PS4 dlc transfer. It sucks alot ._.;

This is why I really hope they bring it to PC. I imagine if they implemented some sort of cloud to steam or cloud to Win10 options, you might be able to transfer all your DLC that direction.

Rock Band would make an amazing free-to-play game too, I'm still kind of baffled that the game isn't on PC yet.

I hope never. Having two music libraries is nonsense. I have too many Rock Band songs to go back to guitar hero.

I really, really hope Guitar Hero stays dead too. Activision was a cancer on the music game genre. I'm not gonna lie though, if it comes out, I'll just wait it out and buy it used for dirt cheap at some point, unless it turns out really great.

The thing that bothers me about Guitar Hero coming back, is I just don't see Activision doing it right, and I don't want new console owners to buy that instead of Rock Band, get disappointed, and just abandon the genre again. I want Rock Band 4 to get a solid foothold, and remind everyone of why we loved the genre int he first place, and re-ignite people's passion in it again. I miss Rock Band parties!

Well, considering we cannot transfer files from the previous generation systems to the current, not sure what Engadget is saying.

The only other way I could see is that if Harmonix has all 2000 files up for download day one?
Unless Engadget is entirely mistaken, I imagine that would be the case?

They should be using the exact same files (any translation to an extended format would occur in game), so it literally should be as easy as Sony / MS updating their db to include PS4 / XBone as supported platforms for the DLC files.

Wonder how the transferring libraries will work?

Yeah I wonder what they will do..

Re-use the Codes in the 360 version like they have previously done?
Check people's Xbox Live accounts and see what is registered to them and just let them download those tracks + what they have purchased?

Kinda hope for the second one.

As a side not...where the hell is this option for Dance Central? I need that on Xbox One!

All my games/instruments are 360 so hoping there's an actual instrument bundle like previous installments for ps4. Though if you can transfer disc based songs over it may be tempting to get a One. Still need a new drum kit though, those damn pads always go out :(

No PS2 controller support and not Wii controller support means Harmonix is rapidly heading the way of Maxis.

They almost went out of business the first time around by fucking over the Wii and Europe, it's amazing that they've aimed the ship into the same failed cliffs.

Shame they never learn.

Im sure Activision is ready to jump in and win the sales crown again by giving people what they want. They destroyed RB last time around and they will again this time.

Theres a reason Harmonix is a niche studio that has developed maybe 2 games people have heard of, while Activision is a top 5 name in gaming.

They stated migrating DLC is a manual process with a lot of work.

not sure if serious

Unfortunately, this year. Supposed to be announced at E3. Activision can't let the competition work in a shit-free market, can they? God forbid Rock Band get any Eagles, Van Halen, or (good) Guns n Roses.

Guitar Hero ain't getting good Guns 'n Roses ever again, I'll tell you that much.

Nice, I'll probably buy this

I have some dlc songs so it's a nice detail that you can still play those in this new version

Man, after 3, I really wanted keyboard for this one :(

Oh great, this guy again. You sound so illogical it's not even funny. Who wants PS2 or Wii support in this day of age. You sound like someone who comments on YouTube videos. Please just go away.

Same. Makes me wish that they could still include the legacy 5 button key charts and allow you to play them on guitar at least. "We Built This City" will most likely never get any more play from me expect from parties without the excellent keys chart.

Thankfully though, the vast majority of key parts were a tad shit in RB3.

The lack of pro keys is enough to make me ignore this entirely. I bought $120 worth of RB3 DLC specifically for pro keys songs.

This is tough for me because all my shit is on 360, and I went PS4. I don't want to buy anything new again; I don't want to be out all those songs I bought as well.

If you also still have the old instruments you might be cheaper to buy an X1 for around 299 when RB4 launches than to buy new instruments and your songs again ...

It really is not ideal, but I see why cross platform transfers of bought items is just not possible.

It's not as illogical as it sounds. The ps2 and wii sold an absolute gargantuan amount of plastic gear.

Well this means I'm gonna have to get an Xbone as I have a fuck-tonne of songs on my 360, which kind of sucks as I always saw myself getting a PS4 over an Xbone, but a man's gotta get his RB-fix.

I hope they add more context to the game this time. Just playing songs over and over again got tiresome after four years, so it would be nice with a better career-mode with choices and a lot of customizations. Maybe even a companion app where you play as the manager for the band, designing merch and booking gigs. Maybe after playing for a while and making the wrong choices, you can die from OD'ing on digital cocaine.

It basically needs that down-time where you can do other stuff other than playing song after song. It was really fun designing your band in the previous games, but as soon as you were back to playing arcade'y quickplay, the game became a whole lot more narrow again.

We released Dance Central Spotlight last year and released a bunch of content that, if previously purchased, is free to download on your Xbox One. How did you miss this!?!?

Then play Rocksmith. They aren't catering to the simulation crowd.

If Rocksmith on current-gen consoles weren't such a lag-fest over hdmi, then I would.

Also, if no new push towards simulation is made, then why buy it?

I still have my last-gen console, and still have a bunch a DLC which won't probably carry over.

PS: They are the same crowd

Wow, so it's finally happening. I wish the DLC was crossplatform transferrable, but it's understandable that it's not.

The real issue will be releasing some adapter to keep compatability with old instruments. I can't buy a third set of crap.

I thought it was a lack of keys altogether and not just pro keys though?

You're correct, I believe, but it's one and the same to me. The pro keys mode was all I played, and without it, I see no reason to upgrade.

All my guitars are broken, though, so I hope I can buy two more that are compatible with 360.

Gotta get out of this thread. There's too much complaining going on. To the others, ill enjoy rocking out later this year with you guys.

I thought that it is only if you actually downloaded tracks as DLC for the Dance Central games, not just having the previously games and transferring over the previous content? I know cross format stuff is going to be tricky. This was the only real reason I did not get DC Spotlight yet. Just too many good tracks on the previous games to abandon!

This is basically everything I could have ever hoped for. While I hope the keyboard makes a come back in the future, I'm ok with Pro Guitar being gone, as I have Rocksmith for that now. Not to mention, I'm more of a Pro Drums player anyway.

Speaking of which, I really hope they either support the old MIDI adapter or release a new one for the systems, as I'd rather not have to go back to the old plastic kits, when I got used to using a proper e-drum kit for my Rock Band sessions. I'm guessing that I better start praying to the Mad Catz gods for that one.

I'm a "people". I can name 5 great games they've developed:
Guitar Hero
Rock Band
Dance Central
Amplitude
Frequency

Of course they're a niche studio. Their niche is music. I don't get what point you're trying to make.
