Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

My dream has come true!

A bit disappointed they are turning from Pro instruments, but since they are making it a platform i'm hoping they will be added back some time along the road.

Also i'm really curious to see if double bass will be introduced on drums, although it will be difficult...

Will buy a ps4 for this game!

The RB1 Export License is on my PSN account, yes. RB2 I was never able to do since you needed a code from a new copy and I bought mine used for like 75 cents

For RB1 You need the system data on your system also. Because not only did you have to pay for the export license you NEEDED the RB1 disc to rip the tracks.

Im in the same boat as you, and I doubt RB1 disc tracks will make it along for the ride, since the content is disc-base, and not downloadable

from what I am reading, when the game launches you won't have your library of rock band songs to play. They are going to rerelease the songs as they complete them and people who owned them previously won't have to pay for them.

Ideally this means that they add harmonies for vocals for older songs that have harmonies but were before they cared (hopefully harmonies in general don't get aced due to lack of resources as I like singing with my wife I can't recall if the new dlc had harmonies or not). It's going to be sad losing keys though as it's my most played instrument on rock band 3.

Ah this makes sense. But if this were the way they were going to release would it matter what platform we bought them on?

How will they deal with the on-disc songs of previous games? Since those never got tied to accounts like DLC

they did, the only exception is RB1 which actually exported them from your disc.

But technically they DO have your "Rock Band 1 Export Key" tied to your account, so they could turn that key into an actual download on the PS4/One.

It matters because aside from the system level account system (Live, PSN) they have no way of knowing you bought what. And since Live, and PSN doesnt have any cross-over, Mostly 360 owners cannot bring their DLC to PS4

Yea Thats they only way I see RB1 coming along. Is if that Harmonix has some good will and take your account having the export license as you owning RB1.

But the flip side is; whats stopping people from downloading the export license to fake the funk?

I would at least want one Guitar Hero as I find their guitars superior over the Rock Band guitars. The Warriors of Rock guitar is almost perfection to me, and I am still using it after more than four years.

The guitar in question :

Pfft, I still have a working Xplorer from the GH2 launch on 360 (so that's from April 2007), only guitar that lasted through all games between that and RB3.

This one was the pinnacle to me, but yeah, the Activision hardware was much better than Harmonix's.

That one was pure garbage because of the detachable neck. I replaced mine 2 times because it couldn't keep a good connection where it snapped together, so it didn't register that I was holding down buttons at random. Gave up when the third one broke as well and went back to my Xplorer about 3 months after GH3 was released.

Has it been addressed already why the OT says the older instruments will be supported, but in the same OT in the FAQ it reads the following...

That response in the FAQ sure sounds to me like the are not 100% sure the old instruments will no doubt work. Was something else revealed since the FAQ to say otherwise?
On Xbox, there hasn't been any sign that anyone is interested in making old peripherals work with the new system from any manufacturer. On PS4, the only thing that has come up is that individual developers will have to write their own drivers to support particular peripherals (Skullgirls), so I suppose there's more hope there.

Honestly, I expect them to just write it off and hope the good will of being able to transfer your library over is enough. The problem is just for people who jumped from 360 to PS4, who basically have to buy their song libraries again and also new instruments.

Watch your mouth. I'm almost willing to bet that if the game has 50+ songs on disc, Paramore will be one of them.
What was it? Hayley Fridays or whatever? :p

Thanks for clearing it all up guys. It was just wishful thinking from me that they could do cross dlc. Oh well, I need to get a X1 so I can own everything.

Dammit. All my rock band dlcs are on the 360. Don't own nor want an Xbone just to play all my dlcs on Rock Band 4. Might just have to skip out on this one.

There is a precedent if they make some proprietary server thing to check your account purchases or whatever. It's why you could do cross-platform transfers of Diablo 3 characters from last gen to current gen.

Heck, I expect if Activision really does get into the guitar game again, they could do something similar and use that as a selling point over Rock Band. I'd imagine that both platform holders would be willing to bend for Activision if they insisted.

depending on how into rock band they were it might be cheaper to just buy an xbox one. I mean I have over 1000 songs in my library and have spent over $400 on dlc (though it was for the ps3)

To be fair if you were a heavy rock band network user though you are going to lose a ton of songs going to the ps4 anyways as the 360 had a ton of exclusive songs when it came to the rock band network, which likely won't make it over.

Well then I'm fucked. Guess I'll just buy the songs I like as DLC, assuming they offer them

They will offer them. Whether it will be a pack or by individual song remains to be seen but if they are rereleasing the songs as new dlc as it is done, and it is taking extra man hour to do, it would be silly to not allow people who don't previously own it to buy it.

have they ever put hip hop in rock band? i feel like there are some cool loops i can drum to

There are some. Most notably some Beastie Boys (Sabotage, So What'cha Want, No Sleep till Brooklyn, Make Some Noise), Run-DMC (King Of Rock) and some other that I have no idea about but judging that they have likes of Bruno Mars or Haley Williams on featuring, they are on the poppy side.

You can check on http://dlcquickplay.com, but the search is kinda wonky.

No Sleep till Brooklyn was in GHWT as well and in GH5 there was Gratitude. Also Bring The Noise 20XX (AKA the version with Zakk Wylde) by Public Enemy. Not sure about any more, since the GH side doesn't have genres listed to search by.

Except everyone smart bought for only one game. Yes I am a RB fanboy, I owned all of them though, man were those last few GH bad. Loved GH 3 though, the only GH game that I bought dlc for.

My problem is that I only play online and anyone I would play with now is on PS4. So it's a case of potentially losing a thousand songs (who doesn't love Country Pack 2?) or playing alone on Xbox.

I guess the other potential deal breaker is if they somehow miraculously supported last-gen instruments (which really seems unlikely on Xbox because they changed the wireless protocol they used for the instruments), I'd have to think very carefully about buying another set of plastic stuff when I have both the original RB1 set and the Beatles set lying around.

Although I guess I could just make a clean break and just cherry pick the songs I want. God knows that I didn't really like every single song I bought as packs anyway.

The GH games had no DLC, but each game had an export as well. When Activision was losing all the music licenses and did a 50% sale on exports, I basically went through every single GH game in order to get the DLC even though I don't think I'd ever get to them. For both games, I have quite a fair number of songs.

I'm really excited yet bummed at the same time by this. I know it is out of their control but not being able to transfer DLC from 360 to PS4 is a deal breaker for me. Have easily over $500 worth of songs (probably more) that I wouldn't have since I went from 360 to Ps4. Sucks but oh well, guess I'll be playing this at a friends house since I have zero interest in buying an Xbone.

Definitely interested in seeing the game, hopefully at PAX! Also it is really cool/smart of Harmonix to allow bringing DLC forward at no cost.

Neato.

I'm very interested in their solution to get older instruments to work...maybe it'll let me use my old arcade stick on new consoles, too. :)

Seriously, I'm very excited for a new Rock Band!

I think it would be funny if MadCatz released a peripheral that allowed you to use your last gen instruments while also trying to sell you a new fightstick that only works on Xbox One or PS4. I know I would be... annoyed. :p

Come on buy a X1, they have that one game...but seriously I will pay 350 to play 1 game. You never know M$ may get some exclusives worth it.

Have you checked a top 25 rock chart recently?

pretty much none of them sound like this or this (I still hate the live version that rock band used for this song with a great passion.... the song starts with the guitar not drums -_-)

instead they are mostly very poppy and a number of them barely contain any guitar, something that to me is a must.

that being said I like imagine dragons and quite look forward to getting their songs on rock band.

I suppose I can see that. Personally I don't find any amusement at all playing a game like this online, and all the good times are with friends locally, where when something went awesome we can go around high fiving and what not, thus I would have no problems buying a console just to play this as everyone I would play with would come over to play anyways.

I played rhythm games pretty hardcore and I have no reaction to this. Think I'm over the genre. Doesn't seem like I'd be able to bring the songs I had on 360 to PS4 anyway.

Holy shit, all of thats consider rock? Oh how times have changed. Stupid kids and their robot ears.

I'm very excited to see the new model of drum kits. Hoping they offer a premium model a la the Ions that were released back in the day. I can probably go out and find a decent guitar at Goodwill no problem, but those drums were really abused.

Hoping mod companies like Goodwoods pop back up so whatever faults occur during production can be fixed (because everybody knows there are gonna be some). My old set went strong for 6 years before a friend was too rough with it and punctured the inside of the drum head.

All my DLC was on 360, but I think I can deal if they improve the engine from RB3.

Haha trust me, I'm incredibly tempted. Probably would if I didn't just buy a Wii U for Smash. Rock Band 1/2/3 are easily my most played games by far last gen. I'll probably end up with an X1 eventually though, if so definitely buying this!

My thoughts exactly. I was just thinking about the ~2007-8 re-emergence of death metal and other heavy metal with Children of Bodom, Dragonforce, and Dethklok finding places on the rock charts and becoming popular again due to Guitar Hero and Metalocalypse becoming popular culture.

That was all in my friend's and I music rotation throughout high school, and seemed to be a pretty stuck part of culture even for people who weren't into the genre. They knew it was a pretty well accepted thing at the time, at the least. I'm not sure that's the case any more, though I've been in the bubble of college for the past 4 years.

yeah that is all considered rock, and likely to come to rock band at some point. I like some of it, but the list in general annoys me because most of those I wouldn't consider to be rock.

Hopefully the standard drum sets for this one aren't enormous pieces of shit like the original RB1 kits.

Also, on the topic of best GH/Rock Band guitars, let's be honest here...

I will agree with you. Wired all the way! I never figured out how some people played using the RB guitar. I hope its somewhat similar to this button wise, it felt so fluid and precise.

I like a few songs too and I am okay with some of that being in RB4 but a lot of those barely have a guitar in them or they would simply not be fun to play imo.

I just hope the Xbox version doesn't have performance issues compared to the PS4 version.

I don't thinking hoping for 1080p/60 is too crazy.

Yeah, I don't deny the appeal of the local set up, but I mostly played online because it was easier for a lot of people. It also helped because my local friends never got good enough at the game to play on Expert, so if I wanted to go for 5 stars and things like that, I needed to go online anyway.

(Expert/Pro Drummers are a rare breed. :p)

As long as it's HDp60 ... who cares?

I mean I get the lower resolution complaint for a lot of games, but I don't think it really matters here? If it's framey though ... bwahahahaha

I like my original drum sets and they still work great.
granted I fixed the major flaw with it (the drum peddle) with some sheets of steel and glue.

ah we played more for fun and never cared about stars much. plus expert drums can be very tiring on a number of songs.
I personally do vocals a lot, I am a decent singer and can 100% the expert vocals on a number of songs (as long as I know them) that being said I almost exclusively play vocals on normal as vocals are too touchy on expert as while if you do a nice clean vocal it mostly works fine, if you sing like a number of the singers who have wiggle in their voice (vibrato i believe it's called :P) you fail hard :P

The king. Too bad they don't last long. I've had 2 die on me.

And the problem with RB guitars is the strum bar - I can't stand how mushy it is. I need that click, Harmonix.

Yeah :\

Well it's weird. For solos, I prefer the mush ... for strumming, want the click. They should offer separate lead and rhythm guitars :p

or a mechanical toggle like Logitech mice wheels :D

The FAQ says that all DLC will be supported (I bet it'll be more like 98% due to some random licensing issues, but that's ok) and songs exported from disc will be supported.

My question is: Which discs support export from disc? Anyone have a list? All I can remember is that I downloaded some kind of export for RB1 and RB2. RB3 didn't have anything since that was the last game right?
