Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

As long as it's HDp60 ... who cares?

I mean I get the lower resolution complaint for a lot of games, but I don't think it really matters here? If it's framey though ... bwahahahaha

Yeah, I get it's not critical, but a nice crisp note highway would be nice. This genre isn't super resource-intensive, which is why it's probably manageable. Nicer visuals are always preferable..

The only thing that bugged me about RB3 was the lack of AA really. Lots of jagged edges.

I'm not sure I care about the framerate. They can still update the highways @ 60fps anyway.

The FAQ says that all DLC will be supported (I bet it'll be more like 98% due to some random licensing issues, but that's ok) and songs exported from disc will be supported.

My question is: Which discs support export from disc? Anyone have a list? All I can remember is that I downloaded some kind of export for RB1 and RB2. RB3 didn't have anything since that was the last game right?

lego/greenday also had an export but yeah rock band 3 didn't export to anything though the manual has a code on the top of it.

main things I want is a super in depth character creator, and faster load times, especially on boot. I mean it takes like 5 minutes for me to start up rock band and play it as it has to load over 500 different "packs"

Everything except Beatles and Rock Band 3.

So, for the list:
Rock Band 1, Rock Band 2, Lego Rock Band, Green Day Rock Band, and all the track packs (which were really just DLC collections on discs for people who weren't into buying digital content)

All discs except the Beatles (fuckers) supporting exporting IIRC. As you said, RB3 obviously didn't since it was the last title (until now).

So 1, 2, Green Day, and Lego I believe? Track packs were DLC in disc form, so they'll be there too.

Ah ok thanks. I don't think I ever bought the Green Day game... so that's ok. I vaguely remember buying the lego RB game, but I can't be sure. Is that it for the exportable from disc games?

I really wonder how we are gonna export the RB3 on-disc songs to RB4 :/

well lets see if I recall right there was a $10 export fee in general to transfer songs.

perhaps do something like have the rock band 3 songs ready and for the first month from inside rock band 4 (aka have to have a copy of the game) you can buy the rock band 3 pack for $10, after that though it would be more like a $20-$30 pack?

as the other person said there was also the track packs... I also forgot about rock band ACDC... though they were all live songs, and a number of them are terrible terrible versions of the songs... I want a real version of thunderstruck :( (I know I already said this, but man I was so disappointed playing their version of thunderstruck that despite liking AC/DC I mostly avoid their songs on rock band)

Thanks for the confirmations. The Lego Rock Band export was some kind of download off PSN store or XBL store right? I definitely don't own the disc anymore, but I think I bought it at some point.

Before this was officially announced I wondered how well it would actually do, but between this thread and Twitter blowing up over this more than any other gaming news I've seen in a long time I think the genre may be back.

Only Rock Band 1 actually copied the songs from the disc. The others all worked in the form of a code of some sort that pointed to a downloadable song pack.

In the case of Lego specifically, as I recall, you had to enter a code, which then pointed you to the listing to pay for the export, and buying that let you download the pack with the songs.

You should probably be able to check your download history and find the song pack in the list if you have it.

I suppose maybe in a really fast solo a crisper note highway could help for recognition?

That of course would only matter if they actually extend the highway further back to the point notes start as pixels. Right now everything just magically appears at a decent size halfway up the screen Turok N64 style :D

Good point. I meant the highway not the backgrounds. And yeah AA would definitely be welcome.

It's likely not going to get as big as last time, but it's been a bit and people will likely not mind playing their old songs and stuff.

plus it should be a great local party game for the current gen systems, something that really doesn't exist right now for them aside from on the Wii U.

All but RB1 were actual packaged downloads from the game servers.

RB1 ran a utility that was patched in to CREATE a save file that loaded the game's songs.

That's why it was always a different file on the Xbox 360 from the rest of the DLC.

That also meant it was a loophole to load unauthorized songs because it was a save file, not encrypted DLC.

I really hope this game releases before July 4th. I would love to have this setup for my housewarming party! It's very difficult to get a bunch of friends together as I get older and older, so this is a rare opportunity!

I hope they have some way to import your own songs as well where the game will do some basic detection and create a pattern, like how their mobile game Record Run does.

E3 will have all the info we need.

I really hope that we get more international tracks. The rammstein song is fun despite me not knowing what the hell I'm singing and the X Japan song from Saw is one of my favorite to play on drums. I remember they were trying to make an Asian rock band and it never materialized.

Yeah I remember them talking about that too. I really hope they are able to succeed with that this time. Don't make it a separate Rock Band game, just give us song packs.

I need a L'arc'en'ciel song pack SO BAD!

I'd love some more Rammstein.

I can't wait to finally play some drums again. I've been really having the urge lately so this announcement has come at pretty much the perfect time.

Wait, I've been reading the thread but I'm still confused. Will we be able to export songs from the previous RB games to 4? Would that be separate DLC or would we just put the disc in the console and buy the exporting key like we did last gen?

I like my original drum sets and they still work great.
granted I fixed the major flaw with it (the drum peddle) with some sheets of steel and glue.

ah we played more for fun and never cared about stars much. plus expert drums can be very tiring on a number of songs.
I personally do vocals a lot, I am a decent singer and can 100% the expert vocals on a number of songs (as long as I know them) that being said I almost exclusively play vocals on normal as vocals are too touchy on expert as while if you do a nice clean vocal it mostly works fine, if you sing like a number of the singers who have wiggle in their voice (vibrato i believe it's called :P) you fail hard :P

Yeah, the vocal tracking is weird because they want you to be pitch perfect as opposed to following the vocalist on the track. Makes for some frustrations at time.

If a song is made available for RB4 that you have already bought previously, you will get it for free.
I assume it's the same system they use for Dance Central.

Q: Will my old DLC work if I bought a different next gen console, i.e. Xbox 360 -> PS4?
A: Cross platform DLC compatibility is not entirely within our control, as DLC ownership is managed by the 1st parties.

Daaaaammmmmiiiiiiiitttttttttttt. This was the one question I had when I saw this thread pop up, and it just broke my heart. I had both ps3 and 360 last gen, but my 360 became strictly a party Rock Band machine after most of the first party support died. I have hundreds of dollars of content for it, but I don't plan on buying a X1. Shame too, I was excited for a moment.

yeah I was really sad we didn't get rock band japan. I am hoping they will at least do a couple songs from japan, it would be fun to play both of the attack on titan openings

opening 1 (would likely have to map some stuff that isn't guitar/bass to guitar/bass)
opening 2 would be interesting on guitar :P
I'd also love some red faction (which is even in english) or some Rise

sadly the songs would likely cost more for them to license then they would make back as the japanese market isn't very good for the current gen consoles.

I suppose maybe in a really fast solo a crisper note highway could help for recognition?

Yeah, but regardless I'm not gonna feel bad for hoping the system can pull off 1080p60 on the Xbox, or feel like I said something taboo if I'm genuinely interested in the game. Why not hope for the best? I'm not bashing the system. I have one and am getting the game regardless to use all my DLC and peripherals (hopefully).

Yes! A Rock Band: Anime OP and ED edition would be a dream come true. I would pay $3.99 a song if necessary!

Sucks about no Wii U as that's where I play my local multiplayer stuff. I can still play my old Wii stuff on Wii U at least.

The lack of Wii U support is highly disappointing.

It's a shame that it's not coming out on PC or Wii U...

Man. Really thought this was one that would have a decent shot at a Wii U version (at least compared to almost all other 3rd party games). Sucks for people with sizable Wii DLC libraries.

Omg yes this is my killer app for this gen. Now i just have to wait and see if they do a pc or a wii-u version, or else i have to get a xbone.

I've never played a musical game like this the past generation. This made me hyped but then I read the FAQ about the lack of Rock Band on Wii/Wii U wich are the only consoles I have... well damn :(

Since I only own a Wii U as my primary console, I will (unfortunately) have to sit this one out.

No Wii U version means no buy from me unfortunately.

I don't feel like starting all over.

Haha trust me, I'm incredibly tempted. Probably would if I didn't just buy a Wii U for Smash. Rock Band 1/2/3 are easily my most played games by far last gen. I'll probably end up with an X1 eventually though, if so definitely buying this!

FWIW, if you do actually want the game on Wii U, voice your opinion @Harmonix with the tag #RockBand4WiiU. I'm not optimistic, but it seems Harmonix would actually like to be proven wrong, and they've been responding to folks asking for it basically saying they are seeing the reactions. Maybe they'll fall for a lot of tweets and make the game =P.

AC/DC had their own little track pack from them live at Donington, and other similar releases based on certain genres, classic rock, metal and two country, as well as a mixed one released before all of those. A Pearl Jam pack was meant to be released as well but unfortunately never came to fruition because reasons,

I'm okay with not getting it on Wii U. I have a huge library of songs on my 360, so if I get this game, I may as well get it on Xbox One.

I don't know of this has been said yet in the 23 odd pages, because i only had time to read the first.

You know as excellent as rocksmith is, the reason why i don't feel it worked, is because it felt more like a learning tool. Now not that theres anything wrong with that and we should have Rocksmith in our lives, but for us gaming folks for example who work 37+ hours a week, when we come home, i think we don't feel like we have the time or energy to pick up something as complicated as a real instrument, we just wanna bash away on minimal keys like a video game once again.

Another example could be that younger or older folks who just want a quick maybe 20-1hr fun sesh playing a game, really don't want or maybe don't have the time to learn proper chords, one song may take quite a few days or weeks to master, on rocksmith, compared to the previous 5 button colour matching game that Rockband/Hero games are that might be mastered, especially on easy in a day.

Now i'm not saying everyones the same but theres a different skill level between matching colours and learning guitar.

Very curious to see how they handle calibration of the instruments for the sequel.

When I first started playing Guitar Hero back in the day, this wasn't an issue, since it was all just a PS2 hooked up to a CRT TV and the sound was coming out of the TV's speakers. Now, I've got a PS4 hooked up to a home theater amplifier via HDMI, and that goes out to the speakers and another HDMI cable running to the TV from the amplifier, so between the various connections and the fact that this is a flat panel digital TV, I know there's some significant latency issues at work here.

I just hope the solution won't be, "For the best, low latency RB4 experience, please connect speakers directly to your console, and ignore your home theater set up."

PRAISE BABY JESUS!!!!!!!!!!

Woohoooo!!!

I'd love for my old stuff to work, but the big thing here is my old DLC working!! Can we export rock band 3, I wonder?

The OCD completionist in me is already having anxiety about the handful of songs that we'll undoubtedly lose in the crossover. Hopefully nothing I actually care about.

I would certainly hope they make RB3 exportable, they have a code in the manual for such purposes.

I have a similar setup and the calibration in RB3 already worked perfectly. I have crazy display lag due to the HDMI passthrough, but RB lets you set different offsets for audio and video. Works great.

There will most likely be audio and video calibration when you start the game like the other games. It will then give you some numbers that you will be able to tweak if it didn't get it perfect.

Not at the moment, though Harmonix has said that might happen at a future date. Obviously there's no technology problem here if they can do it with the other songs, so they're probably just assembling their lawyers for more license wrangling.

Yeah, I had mixed results with that in past RB games. I'm just hoping maybe there will be something a little more comprehensive.

Dunno if its been mentioned but Sony is a half owner of the entire Beetles catalouge.....exclusive Beetles DLC? I think so. Also MS needs to be calling Harmonix as I've said before....bundle that shit.

Can't wait. RB2 was one of my most played games last gen.

EDIT: Better upgrade my sound system in prep for them sweeeeeeeeeeet master recordings.

I really hope that we get more international tracks.

Oh me too ... Harmonix I hope you're reading this :)

They've been the half-owner for ages now, and that didn't stop MS from dealing with Apple Corps and Harmonix to get All You Need is Love first for a number of months.

No PS2 controller support and not Wii controller support means Harmonix is rapidly heading the way of Maxis.

They almost went out of business the first time around by fucking over the Wii and Europe, it's amazing that they've aimed the ship into the same failed cliffs.

Shame they never learn.

Im sure Activision is ready to jump in and win the sales crown again by giving people what they want. They destroyed RB last time around and they will again this time.

Theres a reason Harmonix is a niche studio that has developed maybe 2 games people have heard of, while Activision is a top 5 name in gaming.

lmao
