Rock Band 4 announced for PS4 and Xbox One

Nah, there's no Metallica DLC whatsoever. There was at launch, a three pack containing Blackened, Ride the Lightning and ...And Justice for All, but that was never successfully relicensed and was taken off the store so short of a surprise there will be no Metallica in RB4 whatsoever.

Hopefully the Activision license runs out. I need Metallica in RB4. Wherever I May Roam, Battery, Master of Puppets, Fade to Black. Give them to me.

You'd hope so because they don't seem to be doing anything with the license. The last thing that we saw from them was Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD's Revert DLC Pack, and that was a good couple of years ago. That could be the reason why the Metallica DLC wasn't licensed for RB, unless it's ran out by now and I've just forgot. In which case it could just be the fact that it costs too much, probably the same reason why we won't have any Journey.

All a Rock Band account would do is let them know which DLC you own (which, arguably, they know already, or could easily know with a patch to Rock Band 3). The issue with cross-transfer is an issue of negotiating with Sony, Microsoft, and the record labels.

Record labels being greedy jackasses aside, how is it an issue with MS/Sony if an account determines you have a song downloaded from 360, and wish to re-download it on PS4 for free?

I just hope they can figure out cross-platform licensing as one of the many people that switched from 360 -> PS4 this go around. It will probably be a deal breaker for me, and I imagine many others.

I highly doubt both first-parties work something out for a game that might be DOA. Gotta accept the lost of that DLC mane :-3

How do you think they do World Tour this time? I'd be quite interested in seeing them doing it time-wise in RB4, starting with a band in the 60's and working through the decades until the modern day.

I hope they mix it up again. I didn't enjoy the tour mode in RB3 as much as the one in RB2. RB3 was cool with they way you could choose gigs and such, but I just found it less fun. I played RB2's non stop, however. Gotta get a billion fans, you know?

I totally agree. People who are expecting this (not saying you or the person you are replying to are) have VERY unrealistic expectations. I can't imagine everything that would be involved in it but it would have to mean Sony and MS working very close together giving each other data and as a result not really getting anything in return for it. Not going to happen. If you look at all the interviews/articles/etc. people from Harmonix have done, they have been very open about saying it is out of their control regarding cross-platform DLC which means basically they aren't doing it. On the contrary, while they have clearly said they don't have 100% confirmation that instruments from previous generations will work they are "confident" they will figure something out. They are being positive about one instance (instrument compatibility from previous generation) and just completely dismissive of the other (cross platform DLC support) which makes me think there is just no way it's happening.

Just tried playing GH3 with my only controller and the blue and orange buttons stick and don't work often. NOOOOOOOOO was my last guitar :(

Becasue that would require Live communicating with PSN.

MS isnt having that. Which is why Portal 2, FFXIV, Street Fighter 5, etc is only
PSN <->PC cross play

I'd want a GH guitar instead. Never liked the RB guitars....

Hopefully my GH guitar works.

That's a shame. Sticking a big overdrive button where the bridge is on the GH guitars is a brilliant place for quick activations. Would have loved something like that on the Strat.

My favourite plastic guitar is the Stratocaster they started using with Rock Band 2. I'm happy they're keeping with it.

And honestly, it's very easy to hit the back button for overdrive with this guitar, just gotta know where the placement is with your pinky finger.

I understand that the one they used with RB1 was shit, and it was. And I think that left a bad impression with some people. But Red Octane did make some quality guitars, except for the World Tour one. That was the worst of the bunch.

I think there's still a lot of good music they haven't touched, DLC or otherwise. It's been 5 years since the last game and 2 since they ended regular DLC updates, and it's not like rock music just stopped in the meantime.

Na Na Na by My Chemical Romance seems like it would be a lot of fun on all difficulties and instruments.

Do I Wanna Know? by the Arctic Monkeys has gotten a ton of radio play, and if I had to guess, is a shoo-in for the base game, which is why R U Mine was chosen for DLC instead of it.

Established bands have continued putting stuff out. For example, I Sat By the Ocean by Queens of the Stone Age was a moderately big hit and would probably fit in well.

No, if Harmonix was going to work out a solution, they could create an account system which records which DLC you own and then you use that account on your new system.

It's why you can transfer characters from 360 to PS4 and PS3 to Xbone in GTAV and Diablo 3. But I highly doubt Harmonix is in a position to do that... which is why I think it'd be funny if Activision could do it with GH (just by virtue of having lots of money to spend and having the biggest third party game that they can use to hold the platform holders hostage) and use that as a selling point against Harmonix.

Not the same situation. The problem is that buying the license for the song on one console does not give you the license to use it on the other. It's a PSN/Live issue. Like how buying a song on iTunes would not guarantee you a free download of the same song on another service.

When you buy a song, are you buying the license to the song from Microsoft/Sony, or from Harmonix?

I assume the real reason it won't happen is because it's really in no one's interest to allow it to happen unless there was some kind of transfer fee involved or something. It would be nice if owning a song on one platform gave you some kind of discount on the other, as an example.

Transferring stats in GTA is an entirely different system then transferring DLC you paid for from a certain company to another. Do you understand how complicated that is?

I always wondered why Harmonix never developed the games for pc, none of the generational issues and they could reach a bigger audience, maybe im being too optimistic but i think they could have created an itunes-like platform.

Also i really liked keys on RB3, and did they forgot the fender stratocaster owners? i never got to try pro guitar but i was hoping to, after Rocksmith, i was hoping they implemented a similar method, anyway, i'll still play it for the drums

From MS/Sony.

Harmonix has said before they actually do not know if you own DLC account-wise, stuff like RBWorld just assumed you owned it if it was currently loaded in your library or if you had posted a score to it.

In fact, I've never heard of first party allowing any developer access to account ownership information.

The GTA example people keep bringing up is completely different, since it was stats that Rockstar always kept on their server side with a Rockstar login. You've always played online or used Rock Central with your console's user account.

What people basically want here is for MS and Sony to agree to share purchase information with each other.. and I can't think of a big example even in the real world of this. It'd be like asking Target to replace your Wal Mart copy of Terminator 2 for free. Or asking Google to let you redownload your iTunes purchase of Legend.

Could they not patch in a connection from the old games to a Rockband web service so the DLC a person bought verified and then sent to the Harmonix service and then link the new games to that same service?

No. The content was bought with Microsoft or with Sony, not with Harmonix.

Yeah, the RB1 guitar left a bad taste in my mouth, only got it because I went through two World Tour guitars. It's what got me into using select instead of tilting because tilting was anything but accurate. I heard that the RB2 ones were better but they weren't released in the UK, nothing until The Beatles ones. By that point I had got a Band Hero bundle, and the guitar has stuck with me ever since. That GH5/BH guitar has been ol' faithful to me more than any SG ever has. Apart from the fact that the spring for the whammy bar broke a few weeks back, but elastic bands have solved that problem. The newer drum kit is pretty great as well.

I'll give these RB4 guitars a chance just in case the GH5 one doesn't work.

Rock Band 2 for ps3 can't be exported anymore. Rock Band and Green Day Rock Band can be exported tho. I was making plans to get everything before Rock Band 4 since I'm a 360>PS4 owner.

Yeah the export method on PS3 and 360 for RB2 was different.
I'm going from 360 to XB1 so it's not so bad for me, I've been buying up the old games in preparation.
Got a second hand RB1 and an RB2 export code from Ebay.

did they say I need the old disks for song export or is everyone buying them up based on assumption?

I played RB1 and 2 on 360 and had some DLC but when RB3 came out I was on ps3 at that point and I had committed fully. my ps4 is ready

I'd like a "give us 20 bucks and here is all the RB1-3 with lego/green day stuff" option or something similar

call it the rock band reunion show pack

You only ever needed the disc for RB1

RB1 export - buy a key, the disc itself copies the songs to the hard drive.

RB2 export - either have a new copy, or just ask EA for a free code, then pay 10$ to export it into RB3 and Blitz. (This export is no longer available)

RB: Lego Export - buy new copy, with manual code, then export it via a specific website (This export is no longer available)

Green day Export: Export code comes with the game on the back of the manual. Either put the code into Green Day or RB3 to export Green Day to RB3 and Blitz (still available)

Blitz - simply buy the game, it downloads the games songs like an RB3 pack, no extra steps needed.

Track packs - they just included a Live/PSN code to download the track pack like DLC, no disc required

Also of note: if you can still locate track packs or the Mustang guitar + songs/pro upgrades bundle that include pulled songs, you can still get those pulled songs by redeeming the code.

I would love to see this. It's closest I'll ever get to really being on a stage with thousands of people cheering for me, since real world stage fright would never allow this to happen.
Yes, stage fright is the only reason I haven't been on a stage with thousands of people cheering too.

Sorry, I meant NEW DLC. I already know about the tracks from The Woods. That alone was enough to tell me that nothing outside their Sub Pop catalog was getting released, though now that the new album is out there's at least a bigger collection of songs to choose from. (Oh, also, just remembered: those tracks were all released via Rock Band Network originally, right? Is RBN still a thing, and will it still be a thing when RB4 releases?)

There was a track from them that was regular DLC and it was not from Sub Pop.

What was really weird is that Harmonix said at least 10 Metallica songs were coming, including a song from Death Magnetic before it was released in any other medium. Three songs came out day one and then nothing.
Why would they say that unless they already had a deal signed? And if they had a contract then why didn't they release the other tracks? The GH: Metallica deal happened but that doesn't cancel out existing contracts. Just bizarre.

This is why they stopped announcing albums and songs well in advance. Sometimes they would agree to songs and the label would pull them later, they would agree and the label would go "we have the masters" and assumed Harmonix meant the original song and not split audio stems, etc etc. Or like how they announced Who's Next and then it was discovered someone had stolen or lost half of the Who's masters at the record company.

And no, it probably wouldn't matter if Harmonix already negotiated the rights, it's possible that Metallica's label cancelled them / activated an exit clause or Activision came back and bought out Harmonix's option to secure exclusivity, etc etc

I think they can implement something. I mean, both Ubisoft and EA keep metrics on you with Origin and Uplay. Whether Sony or Microsoft care is another matter, but what are they going to do, say no to the big third party publishers? It just probably doesn't make sense now, after the fact, to try to create a system like that for games that are basically dead. But there's no reason they can't just force people to make a Rock Band account when you start the game and then keep all that data on you as you play.

I imagine it's easier to deal with something like Uplay points, which are universal (I've earned points on five different platforms and can redeem those points on any other platform), but I don't see why it isn't theoretically possible.

Yeah, the situation surrounding Who's Next was tragic, even if they did make up for it in a pretty awesome way.

I just saw gt time and found out thisbgane won't support the keys. That's a real big shame, it was the most interesting instrument in rock band IMO and now that I finally have space I would've gladly bought this game just to play as the keys(my bro most likely would've been guitar) but now... Eh, no longer interested :/ maybe the drums if stores have a demo that I can try

All the DLC I bought for RB3 I bought for the keys. It felt so good to be able to pro-mode a song!

"Look guys! Still using a mushy strumbar!"

RB guitars continue to be irrelevant

RB guitars haven't had a mushy strum bar since RB2 strats onward. Mushy was a RB1-strat exclusive feature.

The way RB2-onwards strats feel in the strumbar is you feel it hit the sides of the strumbar's hole in the guitar body. There's no mush.

But does it click? I I need that clicky guitar and I haven't tryed a rock band guitar since RB1

Yes, stage fright is the only reason I haven't been on a stage with thousands of people cheering too.

Let me amend that to say that even if the opportunity to walk onto a stage in front of thousands of real people arose, I wouldn't take it because of stage fright.

VR on the other hand would be a perfectly safe way to live out the fantasy.
