Final Fantasy XV Demo Previews/Impressions Thread

Nor did THE 2010 NBA ALL-STAR CELEBRITY GAME Presented by FINAL FANTASY XIII lol.

Hopefully they know their audience this time around. FF isn't CoD or Skyrim.

but i like basket ball and final fantasy ;o;

and liked the basket ball game with final fantasy characters in it.

Square should make another basketbal game.

Saw the presentation and read impressions from Kotaku and Polygon.
I don't know what to think about FF XV. I don't know who this game is for, but so far I think it's not for me and that sucks. Half of what they're showing is fantastic but the other half kills all my excitement.
Does anyone feel the same way? I hope the demo will convince me.

I do.

It is obvious that play testing and mock reviewing are driving the game design. As such, it will be boring because they want to sell 10s of millions of copies. By boring, I mean level scaling everywhere, hidden dynamic difficulty, streamlined systems, etc. As long as they can make appealing marketing, it should have a much better reception than xiii. But I'm doubtful there will be any meat on dem bones beyond 'look cool, act cool, and do cool shit'.

Im hoping we'll be able to mix and match combos. Would prefer a system like this.

Short Sword (SS) on Square button

Spear (SP) on Triangle

Long Sword (LS) on Circle

If I press square, square, square I get: SS Attack 1 -> SS Attack 2 -> SS Attack 3
If I press triangle, triangle, triangle I get: SP Attack 1 -> SP Attack 2 -> SP Attack 3
etc.

Now to mix it up I press triangle, triangle, square I get: SP Attack 1 -> SP Attack 2 -> SS Attack 3
or circle, square, triangle I get: LS Attack 1 -> SS Attack 2 -> SP Attack 3

Basically it would allow you to build a combo instead of having to into the menu everytime. Then you could have a hold L2 or R2 to add more weapons.

EDIT: Or at the very least having something like the Dpad to cycle through your prebuilt combos

I really hope we can change outfits in the final game. Give us the Versus XIII cloak, along with the tux.

Also wouldn't mind an Advent Children Cloud outfit for Noctis. It's mostly all black so it wouldn't look too outlandish with the current group design anyway.

yea, it's not like they showed footage with the same direction several years ago, to hype fans up. These type of comments are really annoying accusations. How are mock reviews driving this game's design?

Thanks for that. Preorder cancelled.

I just went through all the media previews and there's a grand total of one sentence about the demo's music.

Props, Schreier.

The way they drive all modern AAA games. Reviewers are hired to tell companies what they need to change to get better scores. Analyzing focus group behaviour, on the other hand, is how that part works. You look at what they do, not what they say they want.

You can see it done well in games like Skyrim and Far Cry 3&4. Oblivion sold 4 million, Skyrim 20. Far Cry 2 sold shit, FC 3&4 are at what, 7 or 8 million each? So it works, at least as far as maximizing shareholder value goes. If you want cool interesting games like fc2, not so much. But I really liked xiii and hated gtav, so I'm a weirdo. Most people will be glad they went down the gtav/Skyrim/fc3&4 game dev route.

Lol, why does everyone discredit FF Type 0?

Unless you've played it already, try it; it's actually a pretty good game. O.O

I played it and didn't like it very much.
It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special either.
I don't expect reviews to be super positive.

But hey, I'll be buying it anyway for the demo.

Poor KH fans. I saw some KH-centric Twitter accounts talking about FF lately, the news for them is so barren.

Maybe those KH twitters like the FF games and like talking about them, and that's why they tweeted.

He has two swords and two spears, both have the same combos as the above.

Fantastic character animation.
Jeez that is insanely beautiful *u*.

Gah, I can't wait for this demo. Got uni in the afternoon that day so I'm picking Type-0 up in the morning, then downloading FFXV while I'm at class, all the time wishing I was home.

Wonder if it has something to do with graphics.

The Order 1886 comes out: "Gameplay and amount of content matters much more than graphics!"
Final Fantasy Type 0 HD comes out: "Gameplay and the amount of content doesn't matter, the graphics suck!"

And then we wonder why companies care less and less about the hardcore gamer these days.

I'm buying Type-0 HD for Type-0 HD. I'm more excited for it than XV.

Same.

I'm torn about the demo, I usually don't play them to keep the full experience fresh. Making an exception because I can't resist playing XV after waiting almost 10 years already. Besides, the final thing will be pretty different with the magic system, summons, car, etc.

But yeah, I'm buying Type-0 for Type-0. I've been interested in that game ever since it was announced as Agito XIII on mobile at the same time as XIII. I'm even happier now that' it's releasing in HD on big screens, makes it worth the wait. Naora's art style, the soundtrack, the mix of school setting, war themes and mature storylines are the main draws for me. Can't wait to delve into that game.

I'm ever so curious where you get your sources for this fascinating info, especially on SE's AAA development. But it sounds like tales from my ass.

And it's funny that you bring up how FF XIII was so 'cool interesting' even though XIII is cited as being directly inspired by your run of the mill AAA games like Call of Duty. Was that done with more 'focus testing'?

Count me as one of the people excited for Type 0 for the game and not the 15 demo. I generally don't like demos so I probably won't even check it out. :/

Poor KH fans. I saw some KH-centric Twitter accounts talking about FF lately, the news for them is so barren.

I host a KH centric podcast. We talk about FFXV constantly despite us having a FF sister podcast.

Our last news segment was literally an obituary for Leonard Nimoy, Chikao Otsuka, and Monty Oum. That's all we've got going on.

I'm excited for Type-0 HD - I've been wanting to play it for a long time. But to be honest, first thing I want to do is check out the XV demo, lol. Of course, I don't have super fast internet, so I'll be playing Type-0 while XV demo downloads.

Watched some of the video and this is giving me some FFXII vibes, which is awesome.

Hopefully it has a bounty system. Any news on that?

No mention, but I feel like Hunts being in is probably a safe guess. They're in FFXIV. They're almost a default feature in this type of game.

Why is that the spear has more combos than sword?
I think it's pretty normal to assume that two handed weapons are slower and have less combos than one handed weapon. Or is swords in this game considered two handed weapon?

Well, he's got Jump. Noctis must be a dragoon and feels at home with spears. :p

When it comes to Final Fantasy (mainline titles), Square-Enix has me by the balls. Final Fantasy I on the NES is probably the game that I have played the most as a child, it was so grandiose! BUT....my love for the franchise isn't blind and I can admit not liking certain entries as much as others and hating some gameplay aspect of some of them (FFII leveling system...WTF I gotta hit myself to upgrade my stats? Fuck this shit...)

That being said, I pre-ordered TYPE-0 HD to make sure that I can play the FFXV demo but I genuinely want to play TYPE-0.

FFXV can't come soon enough!

Spear isn't heavy. His also has a heavy sword as well.

Amazing animation.

He's a dragoon? Makes sense. :P
I love swords though.

Spear isn't heavy. His also has a heavy sword as well.

But he wield it with both hands, while he swing the sword singlehandedly. He also swing the spear slower than he swing the sword.
How does he swing heavy swords? One handed as well?

I was researching the demo and got Type-0 spoiled for me. Great.

I'm actually pretty excited for Type-0, so that kinda sucks. I'm still going to play the demo first but only because it's pretty short.

It looks like the last few jabs are going to leave Noctis highly exposed because they take so long and don't have crowd control (hits the area directly in front of him only). Seems like swords have less weak points though I'm guessing damage is less.

I don't even know if they showed off Type-0 HD for XBOX One yet lol.

Type-0 PAX East demo ran on both PS4 and XB1 without any significantly noticable difference.

note: This was being viewed from over 10 feet away, I'm not able to pixel-count that. And obviously it's only 1 area.
