Super "NeoGAF Arcade Stick Thread" II TURBO

I don't like the separation. :)

Would love a larger Vita Dpad, though. I've heard good things from my pad playing friends about the pad.

I'm not using it for fighters, though, so as long as it's not super fragile, I'll be fine.
felt pretty solid to me, even with the rotating dpad the whole thing was solid.

EDIT: I still havent torn apart my second one, if there is anything anyone needs to know. It took me like 8 hours for my first hack, so I havent been gungho about jumping into the second

What I'm wondering about the TE2 is if there's a noticeable gap between the plexi and buttons since it goes around them rather then the button overlapping it on top. That seemed odd to me. If I understand correctly there are spacers underneath so they're not recessed, right?

Not sure what you mean by recessed, like underneath the plexi?

If so, nawp, they're on top. Problem I'm running into, and it's odd, is that when I try to swap buttons, and put the spacers on and back in, the buttons are really loose. :/

I don't know how to fix the problem, lol. Just trying to swap them out for some different colored sanwa.

Thanks. Been a while but I think I had the LS32. I'll order a few different items to experiment. Being raised on Happ, I'm still not totally used to the throw or looseness of Sanwa sticks. Altho the last time I tried to remedy that, I installed a bat top and octo gate on my TE and that was a mistake all around.

Can you elaborate in what the reasons for you it was a mistake?

I've been contemplating for while to order up an octogate and a bat top because I grew up with Happ sticks as well, and I thought that maybe I could play better under that configuration.

1 frame of lag on a 60fps game is equal to around 17ms so I'd wager most people won't notice much as a majority of sticks are between 5-10ms of delay. According to this guys method which I think isn't the be all end all.

For how "bad" some of these sticks rate people have no problems winning tourneys with them and it all comes down to skill. Unless you are really, really into the technical aspects of sticks that a couple ms will make you go loco. IMO.
I agree on the fact that the lag is, for nearly all sticks, totally negligeable. It's just curiosity about the raw performance of the tech used, not a way to measure a noticeable advantage of one over another (except probably sticks with 20-30+ ms of lag).

I'm not a techhead or anything and don't understand the explanations. I do, however, have friends that are, and they say the method the dude is using is flawed.

I couldn't explain it, but I'll take their word for it, and the empirical data of owning tons of sticks and boards and never noticing a thing. :P
You won't notice 10ms lag, anyway... It's a techical measurement of little to no consequence, except worst cases.

And in some cases, the brain is good to compensate for lag. I've played several action games with a 1-2s lag (it's REALLY awful) when I was writing articles about video games because my capture card was slooooow as hell.

I'd be curious to know what is flawed... Maybe linked to the game mechanics, because other that that, I don't see. Most of the things I expected to be incorrect were adressed and satisfying. But that's not really important...

FWIW, the methodology is solid in my educated opinion. I disagree, however, that 10ms of input lag is negligible in a game with 16.6ms frame time and 1-frame links. You're also adding that latency to anywhere between 10 and 40ms of display lag.

Sony has worked very hard to reduce input latency on the DS4, it seems crazy to throw that away with a wired controller.

Been a while, but IIRC, it just wasn't the same. The bat's close (shorter?), but the octagon is its own thing and noticeably different from the circular Happ gates. Was a new feel coming from circle and square. Activation is still far more sensitive (and probably precise) on the Sanwa parts, and it's still really loose in comparison but that can be approximated with a spring swap.

I've gotten attuned to the sticks I've had around over the years tho, so YMMV.

One could capture the actual data that goes over the wire, which should eliminate uncertainties regarding the polling window and give more accurate values over all. The needed tech to do so is way more expensive though.

Those who pre-ordered through Arcade Shock for VLX, did your charge showed up as this?

0iaWrXL.png

Yep.

FYI, they are down to 32 units according to the Facebook page...

That's only 16 more people buying 2 sticks a piece!!!

Are there any actual pictures of it or the prototype out in the wild, other than that one with the Dodgers cap in it? I want to see more of it

I've read before it came out that there was none so I didn't expect it.
Yup there is no microphone jack. Holy shit I should have researched the product better. Hopefully it gets rare and I can make a profit. I pretty much only play FG's online with friends. My bad I guess.

Going to return the Kai. Just pre ordered the TE on amazon. Does anybody know if it has a mic jack? If not I guess I'll stick to the Kai. /sad

EDIT: TE has no mic port either. Wow. Guess I'll chat with friends on skype.

Anyone know if the art is swappable on the Kai? I can't tell if it's just a sticker or if I'd be able to add new plexiglass and art.

Just spent some time with my new Kai, and everything feels great. It's much sleeker than I thought it'd be, and having the touch pad is a godsend when playing Xrd's challenge mode. I did notice the slight squeaking from the Kuro buttons, but surprisingly it doesn't bother me much and I heard that it might go away with some use. Someone before complained about there not being a lot of wrist room, but my wrists can rest rather comfortably on the slanted front, so I don't foresee the size being too much of an issue.

Yeah, none of the current sticks in the market have a mic jack, this much has always been known. Can't you just place your ps4 controller next to you and use that though?

I can, but how can I party chat if my stick is logged in as me. If you have a work around please let me know.

EDIT: I will say that I really like the Kai. A lot more solid than I expected, and the buttons are also better than expected

I wonder if I could find someone to custom build a mic jack?

Man, I still can't turn on a PS4 with my Kai? I was hoping that was just an issue with how PS360 works with PS3. Being almost exclusively 360 last gen, I'm really missing that.

You can also get a wired headset like the Sony Silver or just go whole hog with a Gold or Elite.

Can you not use any old wireless bluetooth like on PS3?

Aside from Hori's official photos? I don't think so, but it's largely the same as the previous VLX sticks, and you can find plenty of photos of those...

So is it wired to the USB port or something, because I can work with that. Thanks.

Technically they all are.

The silver headset is wired to either a controller or the USB cable it comes with (for 7.1) which is about 15 feet long.

The gold and Elite are wireless but use a USB dongle to plug into the USB port. You can also plug a 3.5mm jack into them to plug into a controller.

I'm sure some of you guys saw the announcement today, but in case anyone missed it...

When I asked about PS3 & PS4 TE2 for Europe back in December, Markman had this to say....

Ok, thanks. That at least gives me an idea why there's no news yet. I guess I caught Markman either a bad time, or he was just tired of answering the same question over and over. ah well...

Sorry for the late replies. Europe finally got approved and we will be shipping/selling sticks there shortly, I don't have an exact date though but they will be widely available soon.

It's mostly the final color I'm interested, not the layout. The promo shots look like more of a grey/silver on the face, whereas the prototype (?, or maybe final product) actually looks a bit gold. I don't know, maybe I'm imagining things.

Every day I think about my preordered VLX PS4 sticks and smile. I added more fighting games to the master wish list. Too bad I can never use these with Killer Instinct on XB1. But I'm pumped for ever other PS3 / PS4 fighter!!

Got the Hori FC4. Dpad feels decent. Feels most similar to an SNES dpad, I'd say, though it's been awhile since I played on one. Buttons are really stiff, have to break them in.

It's been plug and play with everything I've tried on PC in PS4 mode: USF4, SFxT, Mame, SNES9x, Volgarr.

Going to be great for some retro gaming. Super comfortable to hold. Going to play some TTT2 on it now. I've always been able to wavedash better on a pad than a stick. See how that goes.

Regarding the FC4. I just don't like the dpad being pushed in as much as it is. I wish it were raised a mm or two higher. Maybe I'm just nitpicky lol. I wish it had some wiggle.

Yeah, too flat is not good. I remember the original PSP d-pad was not raised enough. That made it real hard to use. Sounds like I might have to pass on the FC4 as an extra pad. I do really like that it does have the four shoulder buttons and the ability to make the right ones L1/L2 and left ones L3/R3 unlike that MK pad which seems a little barebones.

Will these sticks be released when SFV is (TBA as of now) or will you put them for sale before the game launches?
