Seems like Nintendo either aquired DeNa or cut a deal to release mobile games under Mobage's service in some capacity. I could see Nintendo releasing VC games on phones.

Nintendo and DeNA expect to develop a new core system

smartphones and tablets as well as Nintendo’s dedicated video game systems, and are to jointly develop a

I do not understand what's the point in doing that really. They did the same thing with Phillips and we all know how that turned out.

Sounds like a unified user system between console/tablet/smartphones? That's the way to do it. Fall of 2015? Holy guacamole that's soon.

Question is, will this be Japanese-only, or will we see these titles on iOS/Android in NA and Europe...

I'm not worried. Nintendo has said before that they will leverage mobile to bring people to Nintendo platforms. Maybe this is part of their strategy. Will be watching the event.

If anyone isn't catching onto this: Nintendo themselves aren't going mobile, they're jsut licensing their properties to be used on mobile platforms to DeNa. They did the same thing with Phillips in the 90's and other companies with their educational games.

The prospect of Nintendo doing mobile games has always fascinated me. Most mobile companies are incapable of producing Nintendo quality experiences. Nintendo's puzzling game expertise, Advance Wars, Zelda, Luigi's Mansion, Brain Training, Nintendogs and even Pikmin would work great on iPad. It would elevate the entire industry. Can't quite see that happening, but then again, Nintendo is nothing if not unpredictable.

I am wondering about the lack of a customary Asahi-Shimbun "leak" about what this is.
