Bloodborne Press Preview Impressions (16/03/2015)

Dark souls was soo bad, it's not even funny.

I know bloodborne is from Miyazaki, but I still won't buy it day 1.

Git Gud

Initially I found DK very challenging and just gave up on it( because I kept going to the skeletons) but then I did some research, found the correct way to progress and this game became one of my favourites.

You seem to be pretty invested in shitting on Bloodborne wherever you can:

But you will still be playing bloodborne when the ps4 version of dark souls 2 comes out, won't you?

Well, you have to be patient and it could be, that you won't know where to go, but you can find out with some effort.

I bet you will get stuck at some point.
And maybe you have to study some item descriptions to find out where the door to some key is you found some time ago.

But like said before, you can find that out all by yourself.
But the game won't tell you where to go.
Even possible that you end in a dead end, and have to go back and try an other area.
Or that you will miss an entrance and then wonder where to go

same here.

won't buy it day 1 anyways.
will wait for impressions.

that is nothing.

I've heard you can't find anyone for coop/pvp on bloodborne. :O

it was going to be Bloodborne, but 1 game for a whole year till UC6 just isn't enough.

will borrow a PS4 from a friend.

he wont be playing anything till the new AC comes out.

Hello,

preordered and can´t wait to get it.

Loved all three Souls Games and really looking forward to Bloodborne.

This must be good!

After over 500 hours spent with the Souls Games it´s really hard to find any other equally satisfying game. Don´t know why but i seem to compare most games with them.

That´s why Bloodborne MUST be MY GotY!!!

And i hope they put some anti.aliasing in this game, if the PS4 can handle more than blurry FXAA or AA at all.

This game has me so hyped, I am wondering how the world will be structured. Is it a hub with several interconnected areas?, or is it more open in terms of world design?

I am concerned. Can I be concerned? I have concerns a plenty here. Anyone else want some? I got six weapons, empty coop and jaggies here if anyone needs some.

Standard edition pre-order and payed... Still I don't know If I should buy the Nightmare Edition so much stuff!!!

Don't really know if this was posted here/launchtrailer/spoiler thread, but here we go -

Bloodborne: The Saviour Of Video Game Marketing

In an age in which we know every detail before release, From Software tries to reveal nothing.

I know next to nothing about From Software's new PS4 exclusive Bloodborne. I know that it's a spiritual successor to the Souls series (Demon's Souls, Dark Souls) directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. I know that it's set in the gothic city of Yharnam and centres around some sort of terrifying curse. I know that it features game play similar to the Souls games while striving to be unique and progressive. That's about it.

either way, no one is going to find out....all you have to do is convince the manager you are not a plant QA guy from head office etc. Trust me...the kid helps, interact with the kid, get kid to speak to the manager etc. I sail over the border both ways and never get checked with my little cutie in the car!!! (but have the wife sign a papaer just in case though)

This is the first thing I've ever put in the 'pro' column when making a pro/con list for having children.

Edit: Oops, double post.

Does anyone know how playable Bloodborne will be without a strategy guide? Sorry if this already common knowledge, I haven't really been keeping up with build up so far, but seeing all these Bloodborne threads has really piqued my interest but the problem is I didn't really get on with DS, not because of the difficulty, I don't mind hard, but because I didn't know where the hell I should go next without the use of a guide which got a little frustrating.

Yoshida just posted Famitsu's Bloodborne cover

Your concern is not strong enough.

I think you should make a new thread. Interesting topic to discuss on how much of a game should be revealed. I think FROM and Sony did good in ensuring that not too much was revealed. Looking at some of the DS trailers, a tonne of bosses were shown as well as locations.

No different than the previous Souls games I'd think. There's a lot of stuff you might miss or lore that you won't understand on a first playthrough, but all of those games were entirely beatable without a strategy guide or looking up something on a Wiki. Many people finished those games upon release in a week blind.

It almost doesn't matter though with all of these early leaks anymore. Sure, we don't know much months in advance like with a lot of games, but for those who watch streams and want to ruin the surprise for themselves, it's similar to how most companies market games today.

When does review embargo end for the game?
This upcoming Monday.

I broke my "no pre-order" rule for this game, which was really only to secure myself a copy at Best Buy near the office. For the most part, I'm going in blind. I've read a few impressions, and I've seen the promotional material. Not much else.

If it's looking grim on Tuesday, I may hold off until more people get the game, but as it is right now, the general consensus from those who have already played it is very positive.

Ok cool, thanks.

What I don't like about many modern games is that they hold your hand. There's always a big arrow on the screen telling you to head this way for 300 feet or someone calling you on a radio and telling you what to do. The combat in many games was also not very difficult (mash X to win kinda easy). A lot of people play these kinds of games and enjoy them, but the Souls games are not like those games.

A big thing about the Souls games is that it doesn't hold your hand. There were always basic tutorials in the beginning of the game, but many mechanics of the game are not explained (for example, in Dark Souls, you can roll faster if your equip weight was <50% of the max equip weight, but the game never tells you this outright). There are no waypoint markers, no guy on a radio giving you directions. The Souls games required people to have a lot of patience: read every item description, read up on what every stat in the menu means, talk to NPCs multiple times for hints on where to go/lore about the game world. In Dark Souls, right from the proper beginning of the game (after the tutorial), you have a few different ways to go. Some of those paths lead to areas that you should visit later, but many people learned that the hard way. There is an NPC who will give you a hint of where you should go, but you'd need to actually talk and listen to him.

Combat in Souls games were not button mashy. You can't just mash R1 and expect to kill things easily. Much like Monster Hunter, each attack has an animation that cannot be canceled. When you press R1, you will be locked into the attack until its animation is completed. It is definitely more deliberate and slower paced than say, DMC or Revengeance. And even the first enemy you come across can fuck your shit up. You've got to respect every enemy in the game and try not to rush things. Watching an old Game Informers video Dan Ryckert play Dark Souls for the first time, he made an interesting observation; The combat in Dark Souls is like Punch Out: enemies have patterns that you'll have to learn, you can only safely attack at certain moments, a specific enemy attack/pattern/animation is a tell and you should roll in a certain direction to avoid it. Bloodborne combat being faster paced than previous Souls games doesn't mean it will play more like DMC or Revengeance. Attack animations will still be there.

And a big thing in the Souls games is death. Everyone dies all the time to enemies, and the environment. You'll lose your souls (which is your XP and currency combined). People might become very frustrated and lose patience when they hit a wall.

I can see a lot of people being interested in Bloodborne because many on GAF are super hyped for it (including me!). If you can be patient, give every enemy the respect they deserve, and pay attention to things, then you'll do fine. If not, then you might become frustrated and not have fun with the game. The Souls games are difficult, but not as difficult as you might think. Rather, they are games where you have to give your full attention.

Edit- If you've never played the Souls games and plan to not play any of them before Bloodborne, then check out a video or two on YouTube or Giant Bomb to get a feel of what Souls games are like.

Awesome response. Thanks. I followed your advice and watch DS on YouTube. Looks awesome as far as I'm concerned. I might even just get that now. Lol
