Bloodborne Press Preview Impressions (16/03/2015)

Very good games, but I think the Wii U over the past generation than this, I mean titers One and PS4

PD: I love Bayonetta 2

I disagree with your opinion about the Wii U but agree on the 90 for bloodbourne. Regardless of the reviews though, I've had a ton of fun with every souls game, and as a guy who never played defensively I especially can't wait for this one.

I've never liked Smash, thought 3D World was a significant step down from Galaxy, and thought Bayo 2 was great but not life changing.

I think I'll like Bloodborne more than those games, but wouldn't be surprised if it can't top any of them on Meta Crit (high 80's)

Edit: I do see them as current gen games. Add in Pikmin, Mario Kart etc and PS4/XB1 are miles behind Wii U with exclusives, but that's a topic for another thread!

Thinking of ordering the Strategy Guide for the game, anyone bought Future Press previous guides? Just wondering how indepth they are.

Wanted to buy it from Game[UK] as I have instore credit. May check with them closer to the release to see if they have it in the shop. Looking online it seems the stores have vastly different release dates for the book:

Game: 3rd April
Amazon: 27th March
Waterstones: 10th April
Bookdepository: 10th April

Don't use a guide.
It takes the fun out of games.

And the guide gets dated pretty fast when the first patches drop.

Or, buy a guide, use it in a pinch, sell it for a profit after a year.

Maybe if you had used a guide, Dark Souls would have been elevated beyond "soooooo bad". You never know.

I wish people would stop saying this as if it's a given. I played DeS with a guide by my side. I had tons of fun (fun is a strange word for these games) and it's my favorite of the franchise so far. Rather than slamming your head against the wall with no information, it's better to get some help sometimes.

By the next iteration, they'll surely outgrow the guides and do well on their own.

I agree. I'm normally a no-guide guy, but I happily make an exception for Souls games. This franchise is really designed with the internet/wikis/guides in mind, and you're going to miss out on pretty significant chunks of the game if you don't check in with other players from time to time.

For example, if you played Dark Souls without a guide, there is ~zero chance that you would have ever encountered the Stray Demon or found the Painted World and Crossbeed Priscilla. It's extremely unlikely that you would have stumbled onto either of those areas unless you knew they were there and knew how to access them. These games are littered with encounters that only occur under certain conditions, easily-missable items, one-time-only consumables that have multiple uses that you're not told about in-game, etc. Nothing wrong with eschewing a guide, but I think they're an intended part of the game and add something to the community-based nature of this franchise.

The last game I bought a strategy guide to.

IMO If you really want a guide, just play alongside the community and look up the wiki for secret stuff. It's part of the fun of a new "Souls" game.

Makes me think of Zelda

It's definitely a game/series that benefits from a guide/wiki, but some happily wait till NG+. (or start a completely NG)

This is my philosophy as well. I've beaten all three Souls games without a guide and for me, the fun of the game is the discovery. A guide would ruin all of that for me. That being said, the Souls games have the message system, so I do pick up tips through that, but with that you also risk false information, so I don't feel so bad and I feel it's part of the game.

I'm getting the guide mainly for the dynamic theme. The guide is done by EpicNameBro so it should be a decent guide to fall back on if I get stuck.

I'm also getting the guide cause I always get the guide for this series. The Das2 guide was really well done and I still read it from time to time, even though I don't like the game that much. Also, I'd rather just look into a book instead of trying to navigate the shitty design of online wikis

Kay Plays YouTube channel disproves this. She played entirely blind, figured out everything on her own, went from playing very badly to being a master in her first playthrough. She parried the Anor Lond Archers.

Kay found the Painted World.

She also figured out the DLC.

It must be harsh to realize how quickly folks will forget that Nintendo makes AAA games and is still (technically) part of this generation.

Yes the Wii-U is current Gen HOWEVER they are stuck in the hardware dept of last generation. If it looks like a duck (from last Gen) and quacks like a duck (from last Gen), it's probably a duck (from last Gen).

And CRAP - My Strat Guide should arrive April 3rd from Amazon.. WTH. What's the point of that?

Its a current gen machine with current gen components regardless of its technical ceiling.
Deal with it instead of making up rules to exclude it.

At least your first playthrough should be without a guide.
For the 2nd it is fine.

And the signs/other players willhelp you a lot already.

And I think dark souls 2 is bad.
Part 1 is in my top 3.

Actually, you seem to be the one making up the rules to defend its existence as a "current gen" console. When people generally talk about "next-gen", they aren't talking specifically about what generation a single console manufacturer just released, but how relevant it is tech wise to what is currently available. The Wii U is barely a step above the 360/PS3, but that argument has been done to death already.

I said the SAME thing you did.. I just said it in a different way while explaining why many treat it like its a Generation behind. I also don't need rules to exclude anything. If I don't like something, I won't buy it. Simple as that.

Is this a joke?

I have 2 day prime shipment so it looks like it's gonna be available April 1, then depending on the shipping method it's going out. Probably a second run.

Defend its existence as current gen? Lol I dont have to.

I guess we have two current game systems slingshot back to previous gens by forum logic then (3DS and Wii U). If this makes more sense to you then carry on.

Again, you're talking about the generation of a specific developer, which isn't what most people talk about when using the term, whether or not the nomenclature is right. This wasn't even really a discussion until Nintendo decided to release the Wii, which was barely more than an upgraded Gamecube after the PS3/360 had already been released.

Ever since the 8-bit days, people have used "next-gen" to mean hardware leaps.

I think people should try to start out without using guides, but if they find themselves dying excessively/getting frustrated by the obtuse nature of some of the Souls games' elements, they should reach for a guide rather than quitting the franchise entirely, even if they use it sparingly. Without the Drake Sword I probably wouldn't have stuck with Dark Souls, for instance.

I got the same estimated delivery date when I pre-ordered mine.
Maybe it's being shipped from outside the UK?

I was referring to the price. It goes from 19 to 21 when I check out for no reason.

And those shipping costs are by far the highest I've ever seen since I started buying stuff on amazon.uk almost a decade ago.

The total is almost as expensive as buying a new game...

Perhaps its tax?

Only thing I used a guide for with Demons was figuring out how to get the Archdemons to appear in each area and then to figure out how to craft the Souls weaponry. '

But other then that, i tried to figure everything else out on my own. Like where the Pure Black red phantoms were, where the pure white phantoms were, etc. Even figured out the 1-1 Purple Flame Shield trick on my own. Was fun when I discovered that trick.

Maybe the estimation isn't right yet? Amazon might not have the info from FuturePress. I'm in the US, but I pre-ordered right when it went up and I still don't have a delivery estimate.

Edit: Oh, I see it's about the price. Yeah, that does look pricey.

Any official release date for the console + game pack?
I'm finally jumping on the next-gen wagon just for this damn game, I'd be raging hard if it was available in limited numbers and miss the deal.
