She'll make it through, they'll spend a couple months together because it will have prolonged her life and she'll die in April (the cherry blossoms suggest this)
Nope, don't see it happening. She dead.

You mean before or after the playground scene? It was kind of obvious what the lie was from the early episodes. It was Kaori pretending to be into Watari when she was after Arima from the start.

If it's after, okay.
If it's before, why did she accuse him of being a pervert? Doesn't make sense if she's trying to get closer to him.
Classic case of tsundere.Because anime. I wouldn't read too much into that scene. She probably saw him play when he was still playing the piano or when he was transcribing stuff and thought "I dig that".

It's a bit ambiguous whether Kaori asked about Watari or Arima. In any case, there's no flashback to suggest Kaori has been 'moved' by Arima in the past, and even if she had been, why would she play the violin and not the piano? There is a scene in episode one after Tsubaki and Kousei are walking home together where Tsubaki gets a call from someone asking "have you asked him yet?", presumably this is Kaori. Kousei gets asked by Tsubaki to come with them to meet her the next day.

I'm caught up now...bring on that last episode.![]()

Maybe because she thought she would never be as good as him? Or maybe because she thought she might get to play with him if she learned to play the violin? It is kinda odd though.
I think the former is most likely, I play the piano but never could learn the guitar properly for example
Wow just randomly saw this thread on gaf on friday and had nothing to do over the weekend.
So I gave it a chance and watched freaking 21 episodes in 2 days.
This Anime is amazing. The art, the sound the script everything about it is so beatiful. It's easily one of the best I've watched in the last years. These emotions man...
So thank you gaf member for making this thread.
But still wondering how they are going to wrap up everything in just one episode. I'm fearing the worst.
I think I'm gonna need some tissues when this Anime is over.
I can just imagine the feels on that last episode
and depending on what will happen, the OVA can be more sadder

They met in April, right?
If she was moved by Kousei's playing in the past, then maybe her goal was just to get him to play again. I'd be pretty sad if someone I admired just stopped doing the thing that made me admire them in the first place, wasting all of their hard work and talent in the process.
The thrill of competition – just having talented rival pianists like Emi and Takeshi to play against – wasn't enough to get Kousei to play again, so Kaori playing the piano would not have achieved that goal. And if Kaori's goal was to get him to play again, picking up the violin instead and urging him to play by making him her accompanist was a sound move.
glad to see more people watching the anime, I've already prepared a box of tissues for the finale
You're welcome! I'm very glad that this thread has made some people discover this show. If you enjoyed this, I highly highly recommend you go watch Silver Spoon. It's my favourite show of all time (and Goose house, the band that did the first OP for Your Lie in April performs the second ending for the show).
You sicko.
I heard about that. Isn't this a slice of life Anime on a farm written by the author of Fullmetal Alchemist ??
Never tried it but dont really know what to expect. Will give it a chance.
is there an ost for this?
There is a theory that certain personality types are drawn to certain instruments. I brought up Mozart in the Jungle earlier and pointed out how similar the violinist was to Kaori. It piqued my interest and looked into musician personality stereotypes. Google a book called The Musical Temperament.Maybe because she thought she would never be as good as him? Or maybe because she thought she might get to play with him if she learned to play the violin? It is kinda odd though.
I love this show. I want to learn how to play the piano now.

Basically pianist are introverts and violinist are extroverts.
Let's all make sure we use proper spoiler tags tomorrow. Things gonna get crazyyyyy.

Yes. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/SVWC-70044 It isn't on youtube irc because of copyright strikes. I bought a copy and it is fantastic.
Yo! Someone on Omegle told me to check out this series. Should I watch the anime, or check out the manga?
I'm curious, how faithful is the anime to the manga? I'm currently waiting on Good Smile to do a figure of Kaori, which... Could probably take forever. I hope they do one of Kousei and Tsubaki too
I've only read a little bit of the manga, but it seems fairly faithful. The anime at least enhances the performance/musical aspect of the show.

Yeah the thing about adaptations is, I always wonder what gets cut out when they condense it. I'm particularly impressed by the pacing on the show. Every ep ends on a serious cliffhanger and there's very little, if any filler to it. And yeah, the score and stellar VA seriously add emotional weight to key moments. I'm not sure whether those moments would be as impactful on paper alone
