You will respawn at the last lamp without your blood echos, all shortcuts stay open by enemies respawn.

You respawn at the last lantern.
You keep items that you've picked up.
You lose your blood echoes (currency). You can regain the lost blood echoes by going back to the guy that killed you and kill him. If you die again before managing that then they are lost forever.
Shortcut doors etc. that you opened will remain open.

Don't sweat it though, you're still in the beginning & didn't lose much.
