God of War III Remastered Soon on PS4

I'd rather have the first two GoW games instead. Ascension was received very poorly.

I just don't get the reasoning.

Ascension sold averagely and could be given a new lease of life on PS4.

This is the equivalent of remastering Heavy Rain over Beyond Two Souls.

And this single-game remastering needs to be nipped in the bud. Feels almost generous the amount of games we got in the HD collections last gen.

Let's see.

A sizable userbase of ex-Xbox fans who transitioned to PS4 and missed out on excellent entries in franchises they have yet to be exposed to.
Would be better suited to playing a remaster of the third entry of a trilogy?

As a person who has never played a single GoW, I also imagine that having the remaster of III could be appealing to people like myself, or people who arrived on the PS4 ecosystem from either the 360 or the Wii...

That would be like starting Lord of the Rings with Return of the King. Uncharted games can somewhat stand on their own story wise like an Indiana Jones movie, but not the God of War games.

This would have to have huge improvements or be really well priced, preferably both, to get my interest. You can find God of War 3 for like $5 these days and it still looks great.

Seriously.
"Guys, you don't have to buy them! But this is how publishers are funding new games now, so if you don't buy it, you won't get any new games"

No one sees anything wrong with this mindset?

...you don't have to buy it doesn't imply "no one will buy it".

I really don't mind remasters but I wonder if they could have saved themselves some time by just figuring out backwards compatibility.

they won't do bc anymore.

1) it's expensive to manufacture
2) it'll make the console more expensive
3) peoplel don't want expensive consoles
4) sony tried it already with ps3 and no one gave a shit, for the amount of people whining about bc last gen in reality for sure no one gave a shit about bc.

so yes, never gonna happen.

also, this is a better way to make money for sony. no, they're not evil. ps3 games were created to be made for ps3. no one makes a game trying to consider future hardware compatibilities. people want bc, don't want to pay higher prices. and in reality no one actually gives a shit about it afterall.

Last generation you would get a few games in a remaster. Now you get a single game, but will still pay full (or close) price for it. Progress.
Can you give us some examples?
The only PS4 remaster that I know of is TLOU but that game included all the DLC and was only $50 and released only about 1 year after the PS3 version.

I will bite if its 30-40ish. However, I wish it was ALL the games, not just 3. As much as I love 3 (one of the best ps3 games in my opinion), i feel its a missed opportunity for not having the other games

Fucking remasters, please stop and release a new and original game...
Also, GoWs gameplay feels incredible old and stale compared to a game like Bayonetta nowadays.

The market says otherwise.

I've beaten this already and have no desire to go back, but with the amount of 360 owners jumping ship to PlayStation this gen, it's a good opportunity to play a classic that might have been missed last time around. Just like TLOU.

Considering how GOWIII came out originally in 2010, I'd say this Remaster has more..."soul" than many others we've seen so far (I mean, it's not a game released on older consoles and re-released one year later remastered...but it's also true that there was the GOW Saga on PS3, including the two - great - remastered versions of GOWI&II on PS3...this one doesn't even have Ascension included!).

Still, it's not a problem. Remasters aren't a problem per se: they can be great for those who missed some specific games / series for many reasons (like age, or having other consoles and not being able to buy the one with that specific game / series). I think what can be troubling is seeing so many remasters being announced and released when compared to the overall retail releases, especially when, so far, first parties have been quite lacking on both PS4 and One, especially Sony (even if, next week, there's Bloodborne, and that'll be great!). I suppose that's what can be considered as worrying, not the existence of the remasters themselves.

And as you can see, the vast, overwhelming majority are new games.

Here is how the remaster formula should work:

Multiple games with massive gaming potential = win
Single game upressed with DLC and full price = fucking gouge
Single game upressed with DLC and cheap as fuck price = Win (depending on how amazing the original was)

All the remasters that have come out I have only got 2, MCC because it had 4 fucking games (soon to be 5) and so much content from the halo hub it was pretty much indecent.

Also Sleeping Dogs because it was £15. And even then I was not too happy about it, but it had all the DLC and I had never bought that so I kind of justified it to myself.

If this is real and it comes out then I will probably get it...at the right price point, but seriously people buying this at full price is fucking stupid.

holy shit. the best GoW remastered. thank god its not that piece of shit ascension.

Will buy.

I need to experience that intro again against Poseidon.

I feel really sorry for all of those people that hate remasters being forced to buy remasters. It really does suck, and I'm so sorry.

I mean, I get it! I know how cheap it is to develop games on next generation hardware, so there's no need to try and recoup those investment costs by creating simple ports/remasters of previously successful IPs for a quick infusion of profit that can do nothing but help the production of next generation IPs both old and new.

But yeah, I also hate being forced to buy video games I don't want. I wish I could just save my money and only buy the games that interest me, and ignore the ones that don't, but that's just how it is, I guess. So obnoxious.
I don't know why people keep acting like the reason people don't like remasters is because they feel like they have to buy them. They don't like them because they're a sign that video game developers have put themselves in a position where they make games that need re-releases just to be profitable. Everyone keeps saying "Remasters are good because these companies wouldn't make money otherwise." which is a pretty damning thing that shows how bad off the video game industry is. It's not a good thing that these companies need to re-release things just to make money. There has to be a way that these companies could make games that don't need remasters to make them profitable, which opens them up to make something new instead of putting a bunch of people on a port of yet another old game.

It also reinforces the idea that technological updates are more important then trying to push the industry forward.

Fucking remasters, please stop and release a new and original game...
Also, GoWs gameplay feels incredible old and stale compared to a game like Bayonetta nowadays.

Don't buy it then. I'll take 100 God of Wars over another Bayonetta any day. No reason though both can live happily side by side. It doesn't have to be one thing and nothing else. Thank Kratos!

From one point it makes sense because god damn if this game was graphically impressive back then, can't imagine how it will look now. On the other hand (Iwata's voice) well... another remaster on PS4? :c

I might double-dip if the price is right (max 30€), although I'm certainly not looking forward to try to get through the music puzzle again. The goddam thing should have never been put into the game.

Can you give us some examples?
The only PS4 remaster that I know of is TLOU but that game included all the DLC and was only $50 and released only about 1 year after the PS3 version.

And that was over priced considering halo mcc was $60 for 4 games

And this single-game remastering needs to be nipped in the bud. Feels almost generous the amount of games we got in the HD collections last gen.

The interesting thing is that those HD collections from PS2 probably required more work than the upgrade from PS3, too, given the changing nature of asset pipelines and a shift to more portable architecture.

Remember last gen when we had three remastered games on one disc? I miss those days. At least Halo did it right.

Sure why not? I liked GoW III quite a lot (for my first GoW game)

Now I can finally get rid of my PS3 copy, not planning on paying full price though.

Doesn't strike me as a game in need of a remaster.
I'm a fan of the franchise but I don't feel the need to get this.
I feel a remaster is worth it when there's a significant upgrade, which was the case for a lot of sony's PS3 remasters, especially in a case like SOTC where the game was freed from the almost unplayable frame-rate imposed by hardware limitations.
TLOU was nice because of the 60fps but I don't see this GoW3 remaster doing enough to justify its existence outside of people who didn't own a PS3 being able to play it. Sure it wasn't a solid 60fps on PS3 but it ran pretty well overall and it still looks incredible, unlike TLOU it never gave the feeling of being constrained by the hardware.

Surely I am forgetting some.

You forgot Metro, which is one of the best remasters out there.

Since you have included unreleased remasters, lets look at the percentages. Wikipedia currently lists 419 non-F2P games announced for PS4, and these 12 remasters represent less than 3% of catalogue.

Out of all games, 178 PS4 games are currently available for purchase now. Even if all these rematers are out, they would still represent very small part of the catalogue.
