Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

I prefer the vibrant blues and reds (but not the shine) from the cg trailer from last e3 to the almost pastel colors of the halo 5 beta. Quite sure the shaders were a work in progress though so I'm holding out hope that will look much better at release

I hope you

that.

no way man, ARG is over! time to

the champagne!

the bullet scatters Sacred Jewel Mjolnir Shards across the internet, which we have to reunite to form the helmet which will give us a thing.

They promised us this, and yet we got armor that looked straight out of Halo 4 in a sense, along with the washed out color. Hell I'd even prefer the shinyness if it meant we got the deep vibrancy of color here.

Josh and Frank have said visuals are something they're definitely going to work on so that's something.

I don't like the shiny look, but that's just me I guess. The armor in the Beta looked fine to me, but Reach sill had my favorite style, and also, Destiny has some great looking armor.

Yeah, that looks loads better even with the gloss

That is if you want to consider Resistance "major".

Resistance 2 was a weird game with a plot that was all over the place, but that ending HAD me.

If Insomniac went over that script a few more times, I 100% believe they would have changed the game on FPS stories.

Sorry I don't...
It is AAA, but not exactly main stream.

Halo CE probably sold more than all three resistance games put together

Agreed and probably has in sales.

Resistance 3 did turn out well, but don't want to see 343 turn down the same route with the story.

The shiny thing is just because they're models right now. The textures and battle scars and whatnot will come when they are the final version with the in game lighting. I just meant color and vibrancy wise.

Yeah, that looks loads better even with the gloss

Yeah, exactly. I thought we'd be getting these high quality models, completely with the deep color, easily distinguishable in the lighting and haze of the maps. Instead like we saw with the Eden remake, blue honestly just blends in so nicely etc. Red on maps like Regret looks almost pastel orange.

The more vibrant colors would help on maps such as Eden where the blue team blended in far too much. I didn't like the shiny look at first, but it grew on me. I hope it's similar in the final game.

Edit: Well you essentially just said that.

So once the Chief is dead, how many Bungie-created characters will be left? The Arbiter, Lord Hood, Halsey (who they'll also probably kill), and the extended universe Spartans who'll never end up in the games?

So tonight I caught up on all the Nightfall, Spartan Ops, MCC Halo 2 scenes, and Escalation comic lore development having not really put time into Halo since completing 4... woah.

Intrigued to see where they go with this now. It does seem like Chief is starting to lose his shit though, which is understandable I guess. Still not a fan of the whole Didact/Promethean arc.

Escalation in particular just seemed like an excuse for Chief to appear in a comic and do something interesting, but it kinda ruined 4's ending where the armour finally came off and it looked like he could chill for a bit. Nope. Straight back to an installation.

The ODST squad...
mostly

I just thought of something. Are we really that sure the "Traitor" is Chief and are we really sure the person shooting the bullet is Locke?

I don't think it is. The Halo twitter is asking "Who is the traitor?" and kind of leaving us in the dark. My guess is there is more to this. It would be a very obvious thing to have it be Chief and Locke, 343 is well aware everyone will come to that conclusion.

Maybe the person shooting the weapon isn't Locke? Maybe the "Traitor" isn't Chief?

It getting leaked isn't stopping the countdown.

Not really leaked, they have now added this teaser on the site, along with the countdown. So definitely something else coming on sunday.

Also uploaded on Xbox youtube channel.

Yeah, with the teaser posted on the official Xbox channel, and the countdown still going, there's got to be more coming. Otherwise they'd just have the full tumblr page up.

Does anyone remember this unsourced rumour ages and ages ago?

Unsourced rumor that Stinkles debunked, but it got me thinking something completely unrelated.

Just what is the salary of a universe saving supersoldier who was kidnapped at the age of 6 for military purposes and brainwashed to be humanities best...Does he even get paid? If he is, has he been paid for his time since childhood?... and is that actually enough to purchase his own ship, because unless he was bumming a ride off of someone or somehow managed to steal a ship, I don't get how he would be able to move about the galaxy to even be in a position where he needs to be found.

I don't know much about Halo lore (have only finished reach and halo 4), but maybe the story will be about Locke riding the line between Hero and Traitor as he hunts the Master Chief, and will ultimately decide whether to betray (Oni?) or kill the Chief.

Chief is the Traitor to Oni while a Hero to the UNSC/Arby

It's up to Locke to decide what Chief really is.
So pretty much what he said.

Maybe some person / entity will be a traitor from Chief's point of view. Like, maybe he'll feel betrayed by someone (Halsey? The UNSC?) and it'll shatter his world (visually represented literally in the trailer).

I'm thinking the same thing. Chief finds out his 'mother' in a sense, Halsey was shot and then joined up with the Storm Covenant. This, coupled with whatever the Librarian did to him, and how he's been feeling after Cortana left, causes him to question his duty, whether he is a machine. Maybe Chief is tasked with hunting Halsey down and can't do it, and then goes AWOL or she tells him ONI is evil and that she can bring Cortana back etc.

I'm guessing MC has been defamed as a traitor and villain, while he may actually be the hero. Perhaps the game's plot will make us question how heroic the chief is or to consider the shades of gray between good and evil.
The "truth" we are to hunt could be whether or not MC is a hero or a traitor, and this could very well be the truth that Agent Locke is pursuing himself.

My suggestion:
Someone declared John as a traitor, so he went into hiding and seeking a way to save cortana. But he is the only one marked by the librarian. Some Precursor/Forerunner things started to attack the colonies so only John with his manipulated genes can save the universe, so Locke must "Hunt the Truth" what really happens and bring back John.
At the end of the countdown we get the first Halo 5 campaign trailer, including the full version of the Invictus poem and music we already heard in the Xbox One Games of 2015 trailer.

The whole Invictus poem fits perfectly if this is the story of H5:

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Bonusnote: Halsey is working with Jul'Mdama at the end of Spartan Ops. According to the tone of the lastest books this could be the final thing that made the UNSC declare the S2 program as illegal and with their loyalty to Halsey they got declared as traitors too.

I'm guessing that Chief went into hiding because he's tired of all the fighting, and colonies started being attacked by Prometheans soon after. Chief is used as a scapegoat, since he technically did release the Didact, and Locke is sent to find him to see if he really is a traitor and bring him in, or otherwise see if he knows anything or can help in some way. He interviews the Arbiter for clues as to where Chief might have gone.

Pretty cool that the straight on shot of MC's floating helmet from the teaser is the same as the key cover art for the MCC. Y'know, without the bullet about to shatter it and all. Kinda like we've had a Locke(?)'s-gun-perspective this whole time...

Pretty excited to see what they do with this. Had a blast with the beta, now I want to see the campaign. I want to see if the trend of odd numbered (mainline) Halo games having better campaigns than the even numbered ones still holds true.
