Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Palmer is just a hodgepodge of random characteristics that 343 tried to call a character. If she had a side that humanized her better, I wouldn't dislike her so much. Spartan Assault's bonus mission F kinda helped, showing her respect and admiration for Davis, but otherwise, she's far from noteworthy.

I thought they showed a good side to her in her interplay with Laskey in H4. I think she's a good addition myself. By the book Spartan, to a fault. The negative reaction to her is extremely puzzling.

I see they added the short clip. I was hoping that wasn't all that was going to happen. This is gonna be a long day, can't wait !!

The demand for more diversity in games tends to have a counter-reaction sometimes when diverse characters of race or gender are added to said game. These new characters "aren't how we imagined they should be" or "that's not how X and Y should look, or act" etc...

Not just in Halo, and it's actually a lot milder in Halo, but in other mediums as well, you'll find a lot of hostile opinion over characters that don't meet the very rigid standards that people erect for them right off the cuff.

A good critique would be in 2 or 3 games from now, when we can take a look at Palmer's character arc in a more contextual way, and see how much she has either grown, or hasn't. There are valid things to judge once a character has been around for a bit.

And not every character is meant to be likable anyway. Some characters are polarizing. That's what makes a good sci-fi story, when you have all sorts of people, working in tandem and from different angles, admidst galactic chaos. She may come around for the gamers that hate her. She may not. But she's there for a reason, and that is something to be expounded upon down the road, so I'm totally fine with giving her the benefit of the doubt for now.

Just trying to understand you clearly, are you saying that the main issue people have with Palmer is that she's a woman? Cause I'd find her annoying even if she was a guy.

8 hours remain.

While I don't think that her being a woman is the reason people don't like her, I think it's almost certainly a factor. Look at how "annoying" and "abrasive" or even just "unnecessary" female characters on TV shows are received compared to their male counterparts.

Nothing wrong with her being a woman, heck, she's voiced by femshep herself, the fantastic Jennifer Hale.

She was just quite annoying in Halo 4, hopefully they tone down her attitude and cockiness in Halo 5.

It's only because she just isn't a good followup to the legendary Sgt. Avery Junior Johnson.

Might just be a short tease tonight with more "clues" posted online. Honestly as much money as they throw at walking dead advertising we might get a short tease tonight and a legit trailer next week during Walking Dead season finale.

I want to see the Flood if that does happen.

All of the Spartans were annoying, wasn't just Palmer. Even the scientists were cringe worthy cartoons. You see the way 343 present them, jocks, who are naturally arseholes and nobody likes them. The tone is horrible and whoever thought egg heads was good dialogue, it's basically Spartans pissing on other people with a brazen arrogance from their ivory tower. Completely unlikeable and there is no need for them to be projected that way. Get better writers.

I can kinda forgive the Spartan IVs solely for the fact that they were picked from other divisions, and don't have the background of the IIs and IIIs. The scientists are always useless though. They're like Ripley Scott characters, where their curiosity and lack of common sense almost certainly gets them killed.

I feel like they were meant to be portrayed that way though. The Spartan IV's are no Spartan II's. They're just adult volunteers with military background. They lack the discipline and the augmentation that the Spartan II's have. I agree about the dialogue but I thought the Spartans were alright for what they were. You were able to see the clear difference between them and a Spartan II like Chief.

A tease for the return of The Flood would be absolutely brilliant for a TWD teaser reveal but I don't think they'll give away that many story chips this early on. Though, I certainly wouldn't complain!

Just have a menacing voice clip that's filtered to insinuate the Flood are coming back.

Why do people want the Flood to come back? It's not like they were fun to fight....

The Flood are one of the most interesting aspects of the Halo canon. They're part of the endgame for what's to come, and I'm pretty jazzed to see how a new graphics engine will render their looks, and what exactly they'll be up to, given the direction and scope 343 gave them in the Forerunner trilogy. It's really sinister stuff.

Also I really like the Gravemind(s). The Halo 2 cutscene with him is the best

The H2A render of Gravemind was absolutely chilling. I had high expectations, but they exceeded them entirely.

Implying that they'll behave exactly the same as CE - 3. A new twist on them could make them great to fight.

I'd like to see a type of flood that could disperse into spores, move around the environment and then recombine to form a flood form.

Similar to the way Promethean Knights do their teleport move, but much more slower, more visability and you can actually do damage to the moving spores.

hire me 343

My fondest memories of the Flood are from CE, being forced to wage a retreating battle, desperately scrambling to keep away from them. Tons of fun. The movement options in 5 have the potential to take it to a whole 'nother level.

Better than the Prometheans.
Wrong. Promethean A.I.s are a lot more smarter and are a real challenge to fight it was the execution that 343 failed to engage every fight to evolve rather being repetitive.

Kill watcher> kill knight or crawlers > kill knight (s)

Flood aren't any better really. The only thing they had was variety.

Talking of enemies to fight, if any of the prometheans come back in 5 I hope to hell mechanically they've changed completely. Legendary enemies have always been tough in Halo but they've never been so annoying. And whilst were at it, if they do have to be in, I hope they get a visual upgrade too. Every single one was a shiny metal robot. In shiny metal forerunner surroundings. Let's change it up.

Great new that something will be shown with TWD tonight, though it sure seems early to be advertising the game on tv right? Unless it's coming sooner then we think.
