Halo 5 Guardians: #huntthetruth

Well, the Lightrifle is definitely coming back. So that's not happening.

The Lightrifle is quite fun to use. I generally opt to use it over the Battle Rifle and DMR for the CAMPAIGN, if available. MP is definitely a different story though. BR all day.

And call me crazy, but the Suppressor is one of my favorite Halo weapons of all time. The feel. The sound. The animations. It's a very good gun.

i hope Promethean weapons are changed up, make them a bit more unique instead of just changed up shotguns ect.

343 tried that for 4, but players didn't use the really outlandish weapons. Josh Holmes from GDC:

When we started out, I was really pushing the team to go in a very sci-fi direction. I wanted to embrace the sci-fi nature of the enemies and explore concepts that were outside the box for Halo, things that you'd never seen before in the Halo sandbox. What we found as we were testing these weapons with players, the really deep sci-fi approach wasn't relatable. As a result, they weren't really gravitating to these weapons. It really sucks when you're making new weapons and no one wants to use them.

Am I the only one that enjoyed the challenge of variety of the Prometheans?

The dog guys were great fun to kill and you just had to get in close with a shotgun type weapon to get the Knights (which they gave you). I thought it lent itself to some great challenges and strategies and it's why I think 4 is one of the best in the series.

They gave the Knights insta-kill weapons 60% of the time (Scattershot, Binary Rifle, Incineration Cannon) which gets more frustrating then fun. Along with this, they become "bullet sponges" where you could put 10 shots into them, have them teleport away, and wherever they teleport too, they would already have their shields back. It gets really annoying, specially when playing on a Higher difficulty like Legendary.

It's a shame, really. They are excellent guns, but they just didn't turn out to be as popular to use. That's the risk of trying new things as opposed to getting stale with old things... It's a fine line to walk sometimes.
Honestly, I liked the concept of the extremely SciFi forerunner weapons...I just found that they never really gave me a reason to want to use them. In multiplayer they are pretty much a compromise and in campaign they did almost no damage to the enemy.

There only decent one would be the light rifle, which at best was at par with the DMR/BR, so why wouldn't I chose those, especially since they don't fire an easily traceable mark every shot

I hope they totally forget the Prometheans from Halo 4 and their weapons. Worst enemy design of the franchise.

I really like the way the Knights looked. The watchers were kinda meh and the crawlers had a gun for a face.

The Didact design is actually one of my favorite things in Halo 4. I think the armor he wears is menacing and his face and helmet both relate to something evil. It's a shame that we barely saw him.

Also I really like when you kill a knight, it begins disintegrating from where the killing shot hit which was really neat.

The combat loop with the knights became tiresome later on though because the teleporting and their inherent ability to take multiple clips before going down.

Other than the boltshot, which is just straight up broken.

The Didact's design was fantastic. His armor, his features, the coldness in his eyes after so many, many years left in isolation. The weight of what he had endured and wrought could be felt and seen upon his reveal in he game. It was cool to actually see him in the flesh, after all of the setup in the Forerunner trilogy. It was just a pretty cool moment, I thought, and well executed.

Yes! I loved that!

Exactly. Make the weapons unique and powerful, then people will use them.

well we know from e3 teasers that Chief is on his own quest looking for something, probably cortana related. MCC we know Locke has enlisted the Arbiter to help look for Chief. Do not remember a tease for the beta, i just jumped right into the MP.

So Chief is both being hunted and hunting for something. The truth likely has to do with both and will not be realized until late game.

I'm gonna guess its gonna be this commercial

Pretty much, I mean they are Forerunner weapons... Its alright to make them a Mid-power weapon... they aren't easily manufacturable by current day Human Tech and its not like there are any alive Forerunners mass producing them to give away like candy

They'll kill chief because he is the last vestige of classic halo and that's not their "vision" of halo.

Being objective, Locke and the visual ID and the beta is their vision of halo and it feels like Chief does not fit that.

The demand for more diversity in games tends to have a counter-reaction sometimes when diverse characters of race or gender are added to said game. These new characters "aren't how we imagined they should be" or "that's not how X and Y should look, or act" etc...

Not just in Halo, and it's actually a lot milder in Halo, but in other mediums as well, you'll find a lot of hostile opinion over characters that don't meet the very rigid standards that people erect for them right off the cuff.

A good critique would be in 2 or 3 games from now, when we can take a look at Palmer's character arc in a more contextual way, and see how much she has either grown, or hasn't. There are valid things to judge once a character has been around for a bit.

And not every character is meant to be likable anyway. Some characters are polarizing. That's what makes a good sci-fi story, when you have all sorts of people, working in tandem and from different angles, admidst galactic chaos. She may come around for the gamers that hate her. She may not. But she's there for a reason, and that is something to be expounded upon down the road, so I'm totally fine with giving her the benefit of the doubt for now.

Fantastic post. I agree completely.

What is the general expectation here? Are you expecting an ingame cinematic, a CGI, or live action?

The most likely thing is probably that live action trailer which the above picture was leaked from. That's what most people seem to think it might be.

CGI/Live action teaser

I don't think we'll see anything in game til maybe E3, unless there might be something akin to the Game Informer reveal before that.

Holy shit.

His saltiness returns.

Welcome back

Although we all know ProvenDeadly is actually your alt.

Been away from GAF and the first halo thing I see is an exploding chief helmet... What else do I assume?

And there was actually someone besides me that is salty?

Someone give me a pretzel ASAP. There's just so much salt to shake igottatasteit

Wish it was going to be an in gameengine Announcment type trailer.

I want to see what the engine is capable of in SP.

I only really had problems with how cheap the Incinerator Cannon, Boltshot and Binary Rifle were. They can easily balance the Boltshot and Binary Rifle. But that cannon, fuck that. That thing was unbelievably op.

Incineration Cannon could be cool as a wide-area anti-infantry weapon. Just needs to be largely ineffective against vehicles.

My expectation is an in-game cutscene/voice over trailer. 1 min, introduces general story premise, etc.

I think they will save that live action trailer for when the game actually launches like they did with Halo3/ODST/Reach/Halo4. No point in putting out a live action trailer now when your game is still months away... doesn't accomplish much IMO.

And I'm still banking on a September release if this happens.

I'm really hoping for a September release.

1. I just want it asap lol.

2. It'll avoid the November slogfest of other new releases and other competing FPS titles, therefore giving the game some time to cement itself.

I agree. So far I see no signs that lead me to believe it's not possible. We had a very early beta in December, they are apparently starting up the marketing hype train now in March and the game has had plenty of time in the cooker. (thankfully)

We'll see I guess but I think Halo 5 released in late September would hit massively.

Expecting this

Yep.

If this thing is launching in Sept/Oct/Nov, it seems crazy early to be dropping a live action trailer. Those things always come in the month before release right? The pic from the eventual commercial looks great though, those armours in real life are sexy.
