This sentiment has always been BS. I was around when Dark Souls 2 launched and people got stuck on a few bosses for a while, same with Dark Souls 1 looking back. The thing that makes or breaks the game's difficulty is knowing what you're fighting and how you built your character. A bad character build in a Souls game can make progress grueling.

Once you know every enemy in the game and can build your character correctly? Yeah, the difficulty is alleviated.
So true, ds gets easy once your jacked up on gear

These are pretty funny:

I just took the plunge and I will probably be like this tomorrow

Eh, I'm playing through DS1 for the first time right now and I totally get what he's saying. It's definitely annoying to spend a few minutes getting to a boss fight, dying in 10 seconds, then spending another few minutes to get back. Luckily I'm playing on my PC so load times aren't bad, but if I had to deal with ~30 second load times too? I'd be mad.

I don't know if being upset by 40 second load times is unreasonable. I sure hope that patch gets out quickly.

I agree. It does sound like they are at least working on it though. Presumably it's because when you die you can be re-spawned quite far from the area where you actually died? Potentially needing to load a completely different area. Even then though, the load times ought to be shorter. Here's hoping they are reduced before the game releases here in the UK, because I have a feeling that as a From Software n00b, I'm going to be dying a lot.

If Bloodborne gets less than a 90-metacritic, I'll be f*cking pissed. You just know that something isn't right when an attention-seeking troll decides to give this PlayStation 4 exclusive a criminally undeserving "7.5."

I'll give him the loadtime complaints. That's about it. Everything seems like your standard Soul game.

It's completely valid, it IS a game that forces you try again and again, and you will die. So, I imagine waiting through 40 second load times doesn't exactly help the sense of frustration.

The rest of his thoughts are seriously cracking me up though.

Wait it sounds like healing is like demon souls and people are bitching?

Yes, it's like Demons' Souls. If you started with Dark and never played Demons, you're in for a bit of an awakening.

I just didn't like having to grind when I got my ass kicked. But it did encourage me to try harder and not just cheese. So that's what they were going for, I guess.

The only thing I don't agree with Dan on are the save points before a boss. Save points are fairly generous, but they still force you to get good at going through an area AND fight the boss.

I love dark souls 1 and 2 (DS1 was my game of the generation) and i agree with everything in those tweets tbh. I love the games in spite of a lot of the bullshit (or what I consider bullshit)

I don't remember boss checkpoints in the first two. My memory sucks though.

I like how the game punished messy exploration.

Too much warping in Dark Souls 2 killed the mood sometimes. You can just hop out of difficulty in some cases.

That sounds like a reasonable point of view that is not at all insane.

I figured it was because it was having to load a complicated area with an enormous boss. Most of the other load times I noted were in the 30-40sec range. That's why this one stood out.

So I don't think it matters if it has the boss or not but because of the sheer size of the map area. For instance, Yharnam is one of the longer load times in the game period but it's not all of Yharnam's teleport spots. Only certain ones. So the game renders a certain amount of the game and stops depending on the destination of your choice. My guess is that it's caching the map entirely and the GPU can't render fast enough.

the load times remind me a lot of Demon's Souls. those were pretty long. hopefully they can patch it for better performance if that's possible.

To some extent sure, I had a rough time of it my very first time with the Souls series (Demon's) and Dark Souls was kinda rough going the first few hours I played...but once you understand the gameplay mechanics you can largely bend the game to your will. Especially considering that these games are largely tactical in nature and don't really rely on reflexes.

Comparing this to something like Super Meat Boy, or even Hotline Miami difficulty wise is just ridiculous.

If the argument is that the Souls games are hard when you don't know what you're doing, well shit, just watch Metal Gear Scanlon and you'd think those games are at the level of Contra.

Patrick Klepek on twitch said that the developers recognize the long load times and are working on it.

Is this true? Where did he get this from?

Dude, you're going to play a wonderful game in a few hours. Stay positive and don't get all negative when someone else doesn't like the game, because as long as you like it that's the only thing that matters.

Oh, I know, it's also been advertised heavily on Walking Dead and Better Call Saul, the last few weeks.. And The Following tonight...

I'm saying I would love to see Sony embrace these review scores and plaster them all over a new commercial or the current ones... Games with much lower praise do it...

That's going to happen as well

Sony will likely have high hopes for From Software's action-RPG, which has already been described by EDGE as "the first true essential of this generation". Sony's post-release marketing strategy for the game will also "focus on press reaction to the title", MCV states.

I have to say that I agree with him on the Blood Vials thing. I'm too used to Estus Flasks. Having to grind for more healing potions after a boss kept wrecking you kinda sucked.

I get why they did it though.
I have so many vials in storage that when I die they are completely refilled. I've spent more time grinding for bloodstones or echoes than for health or bullets.

I'm playing right now and my load times seem to be about 1/2 of what people are reporting.

That's good to hear, load times are my pet peeve (even more than framerate). At least this discussion has set my expectations and hopefully it won't bother me too much.

From's last Dark Souls II PS3 patch significantly improved load times so hopefully that sets the stage for a similar Bloodborne patch.

Poor load times is one of the main reasons I sold my PS3 version of Dark Souls II less than a week after I bought it.

Hopefully that patch works.

Has this guy never played a Souls game before?

Why is he raging about this now?

Well in one recent tweet right now he said he tried Dark souls and also hated it.

I kinda believe he does hate the soul games lol especially after this tweet:
Dan Stapleton said:
For the record, I spent ~12 hours this weekend legitimately trying to enjoy Bloodborne, waiting for it to get good. It did not.

You can't wait for souls games to get good, soul games wait for you to get good!
