I didn't read the threads or reviews. Getting my copy tomorrow. Can someone please tell if the game is still difficult and that they didn't add any mainstream concessions? The reason I ask is because of so much advertisement. Basically, is it still the souls game we know and love?

It's streamlined in the sense they removed stuff like shield turtling, bows and grinding for different rocks/shards if you want to try different weapons. If you liked melee combat in Souls you're golden here.

walk up close and tap R1. will do the riposte automatically

if you're too far out you'll just do a normal attack, still a bit more damage but not the whole shebang.

anyway I have some questions,

- I really can't fucking roll while having the lock-on? If true I feel like it's going to be a problem, at least for me.

- am I the only one playing with 10 brightness? It seems too dark otherwise, I don't know.

- where do I find Eileen the Crow? I read that she's at at the Central Yharnam Sewer entrance but I didn't find her there. is she after the pig?

btw I have the gaf password set, I'll try to use the Bell for the third boss I think.

It's only Tuesday they;ve 2 days to ship it before you can think about it being late. Game collection sent my type-0 on tuesday and I got it on Wednesday so there's plenty of time left today for it to ship and of course tomorrow.

This is my first Souls experience but shit. Never died so much as i did with only the first beast past the sick room. But im loving the atmosphere and the enemies so far. Just waiting until i can actually equip my weapon now.

Has anyone had success with the cane yet? Or is it just really weak.

Started with the Cane and couldn't even take down the two werewolves on the bridge. Restarted with the Saw Cleaver and beat the Cleric Beast first time. Cane = Hard Mode, for me at least.

yup, it does less damage even with the initial Skill build. you need to bring it at +2 or +3 (if +3 it gets B in Skill scaling) to do some decent damage.

speaking of which, who drops blood shards? Need 8 now, ugh.

it was for me too - its like learning to ride a bike all over again. just keep at it - I ended up perfecting its use in the third boss fight and I LOVE the change now.

I was going to choose the Threaded Cane as my weapon, since I'm interested in the Skill-type build, but I might go with the Saw Cleaver instead. I've heard more than a few people say how poor the Threaded Cane is for the first boss. :/

Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it.

They added things to balance things taken out, though. I personally think that several of Bloodborne weapons are so much better than anything in souls. They look better, are more useful in different situations and feel really badass.

Axe is great at start, I agree. It can sweep crowds when you're still weak and learning to play in polearm mode and hits hard against bosses in axe mode.

its always a frame perfect attack - its just that the enemies stun window varies - along with whatever gun you're using as well. sort of like how shields of diff sizes had diff parry windows in Dark Souls.

I'm not perfect at it yet - I'm sure in the coming weeks someone will figure out the exact mechanics

I'll unlock from the target and roll if I know a big AOE attack is coming. but if you time your dodges right you're still getting what I THINK are i-frames (or I'm just really lucky lol) plus you're still facing the enemy AND very close in - tighter than rolling ever allowed us to be. and it seems so far the combats been designed to where you're not getting screwed for being too close.

it's ok, I do too. I gave up on fighting them and just run. speedrunning souls games is sometimes easier than dealing with every single enemy.

You can stagger by shooting while the enemie is in an attack anomation of walking up behind an unaware enemy and doing a charge attack (hold R2). Once they fall on their knees get in close and hit R1.

Try different weapon sets. You have to know how to float around the boss. It's not unusual to get stuck, try flanking him from another angle or learning how to dodge their moves. Try extended axe or two handed axe and just stay on his tail. It might take longer, but when You can go straight towards the face. Hit twice and retreat.
