I finally understand the loop of these games. I died so many times on the same section, but now I understand it. I understand the strategy, the enemy placement, and how to attack. Now, the areas that troubled me I can run through quickly. Nothing catches me off-guard because I've already been caught off-guard and learned. Slowly but surely I am figuring things out.

Also, how does the save system work? Does it auto save when I go to the Hunter's Dream, or what?

Autosaves all the time. Use a vial? Autosaved. Equipped a different weapon? Autosaved. Killed an NPC? Autosaved. You can exit the game at any time, and when you re-enter it, the game will pick up right where you were last standing, with the world's state as it was when you quit.

Pistol. Does it work on every enemy? It's really easy to do it with some enemies, but sometimes it seems like it doesn't work with others (like the big axe guy near the beginning).

I think the blunderbuss is supposed to be better at stunning.

Anyone else getting wrecked by Cleric Beast?

Do you remember fighting the
Giant Lord
in Dark Souls 2? I use that same strategy.
Back off when he does his swings, follow his feet, and nail him in the face after he does his attack. You can stay under him, but stay away from his front until after he does his attack. Hit his face a couple good times, but keep your stamina up because you'll be dodging quite a bit.

Interesting.

I'll be sure to calculate the frame data and parry-window for certain weapons and enemies.

Someone did that a few pages ago. Just exit the game and reload your save file. He came back for the other GAFfer who accidentally did it.

Whelp, tried it. He still is nowhere to be found.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK

Guess I'll sabotage my game even more now. You're going down doll lady.

Don't worry about it, bruh. You only have to beat the first boss, and if you die, well, hope you get back to him and manage to grab your echoes (on the ground at his feet). Oh, and you have to kill him before you can use them, unless you want to just give them up and level up on the trash mobs for a while. Good luck! :D
Or use a homeward bone ;p

a reminder to anyone purchasing this digitally not as a pre-order...

The mini soundtrack and Yharnam Hat Messenger Skin are a free bonus only until March 31st

I just don't understand the purpose in letting the player be able to completely destroy their game by accident like that. Seems like pretty shit game design to me

Still no preload. Not much time left.

Neat. Thanks for the quick answer.

Wait, I don't need to die/defeat Cleric in order to level up? Can I just use Homeward Bone? How much do they cost in the stores? How long does it take to cast?

where the hell are all the lanterns in this game? played for over an hour getting far in the first area/sewers/etc, and nothing. just died and i'm ready to jump off a building T__________T

So I told myself I'd only stay up until 3am because I've got work in the morning. I figured I'd breeze past the first area in and hour or so and then I'd be seeing new content. Well, the Cleric Beast wanted to fuck that up for me. I thought I was good at Souls games and here I am stuck on the first boss for three hours. Granted, most of this time was spent grinding blood vials to give him another shot. I couldn't go to bed without beating this fucker, and in my last attempt of the night I finally did. My heart was pounding out of my chest. Goddamn did it feel good when I killed that bastard. I fucking love these games.

I was going to choose the Threaded Cane as my weapon, since I'm interested in the Skill-type build, but I might go with the Saw Cleaver instead. I've heard more than a few people say how poor the Threaded Cane is for the first boss. :/

I think there's a silly bug in Old Yharnam! You can equip a torch, then switch your primary weapon stance to a two hand stance, the game will think the torch is still active and the enemies in the area will react as if you're holding the torch. :D

Tips for Cleric Beast:
shoot its head when it has lowered it after an attack.

I want you guys who want help to summon me, so I can farm echoes for my sweet
Raven Hunter
gear. Where/when do you get the bell to get summoned?

So I can quickly return to the first area after receiving some weapons...

Guess I wasted time punching my way through enemies with no worthwhile rewards.

Do bloodstains work the same? None of mine were showing up on the ground. Only got my echos back after killing a random dude.
If there's an enemy near your blood stain, they can... Take it! In which case you'd have to kill that enemy to get your blood back. That enemy will have glowing eyes.
