can you only recover your Blood Echoes from your most recent death?

I just built up 3000, and died in this house underground, and on the way back there I died once again. when I eventually got back, they wernt there...

So essentially if you die in a hard area and die again getting there, you lose all your progress?
They're gone if you die again, yes

Man I've only played an hour but I think I hate this game. Why does it control so slow and awkwardly? The animations are awkward and choppy. This is my first From Software title, but I'm not enjoying it so far. I'll give it some more time later today but so far I'm not impressed.
This is a standard response to Souls games. Just stick at it. It'll click sooner or later.

I like the blunderbuss for aesthetic purposes, but it sounds like I'm going to have to go with the pistol instead if it fires faster and stuns more reliably.

So I had no idea that the cane transforms into a whip/chain.... now I wish I had bought it sooner. Frickin' awesome!

Stupid non-ww release dates, it's like being back in the dark ages of the 90's. Is there a consensus on on a character build for a player with no Soul's experience? I'm gonna give the game all the time in the world but wanna make it as relatively easy on myself as possible.

Anyone?

So to the people playing now....are you getting invaded a lot?

I'm thinking of playing offline just for awhile until I get a handle on the controls and what not.

No, haven't been invaded yet. I suggest embracing it though. You'll probably die a lot anyway, what's another death? Don't worry about your blood echoes too much; the game is designed around the fact that you will probably lose them a lot. Also, this is the ground floor. I imagine some of the cheaper/unfair tactics of the PVP meta haven't been discovered yet. Everyone is new at the game now.

Nope. If invading requires Insight currency too then don't expect much of it for now.

Invading doesn't cost insight but as far as i can tell you don't "invade" anymore, i'm ringing the pvp bell now and it keeps saying "searching for the chime of a sinister bell". It looks like you can only pvp with other players who've rung the bell.

I am not enjoying my time with this game so far. The framerate seems off, not low, just weirdly inconsistent, lock on and dodging feels unresponsive, and having to keep repeting the same long segments over and over feels like a chore. Haven't been able to get the stun from the gun to work a single time either.

I'm really enjoying the core combat but it's not pleasant to play. I'll keep at it but it's not a good first impression.
You need to shoot enemies when they're attacking you. Then wait a moment as they slump over then press R1 for the riposte

Bought some fast food for a few days, snacks and drinks. Perfect.

First Souls game? Have you gotten any shortcuts yet?

NOOOOOOO FUCK THIS

Thanks. Glad to hear that I'm not far. I was trying to do the nightmare zone now but seems perhaps I should come back to it later then by your comment perhaps? Also the key is in an area with a giant monster overseeing? Where is this I'm not recalling that. Thanks again!
umm The area you get teleported when you kill the spider on the moon lake. that area is on the forest.

Man it took me close to 2 hours to reach the first boss. I was about to throw in the towel until
I found a shortcut by going left after the big bonfire.
. It's obvious i suck at this game more than others though. I'm struggling to get the first boss below 75%, my hits do so little damage and my blunderbuss seems ineffective at stunning him.

Invading requires the host to have a co-op partner. So once someone summons a guest they are open to invasions.

I just
riposted his ass all the way. He can be parried in all forms super easily with the pistol. I killed him in one go.

The problem is I suck at parrying. Couple more tries since my post, I always get knocked down and killed once when he's transformed into his second form...
:(

You can only collect Blood Echos from your last death. Since you died going back to collect the 3000 all that was there was the Echos from the latest death.

All "Souls" games are an acquired taste, and that taste is still not for everyone no matter how long they play. The frame rate does feel strange, somebody posted that it's related to the frame "pacing" even though fps is technically locked ~30.

The game feel is pretty clunky if you're used to more traditional action games, as a huge Souls fan I was really hoping this aspect of the game would have made a bigger improvement than what it did.

Vitality and Endurance are the most important stats in any Souls game, specially Endurance

No need to focus on them since you'll want to use better weapons, but do not neglect them

How many hours was your playthrough??

What Stone said. I tend to focus more on END and then my chosen physical atk stat. In this case SKL. The stat you plan on utilizing to scale your damage is the most important one to focus on. For every 4 points I put into SKL (or DEX for DeSo, DaSo) I put one into VIT. For every 2, I put one into END. I like my characters quick, high stamina threshold, and powerful with DEX/SKL weapons which offer versatility.

Basically, play around. The beauty of the Soul's series is not being tied down by an upgrade path other than one imposed on yourself. Don't neglect VIT but there will be a point where you're good enough that VIT is not necessarily important besides the safety cushion it offers.

BTW, how amazing is being able to dodge. Already I love the combat in Bloodborne a lot more than past games simply for the more offensive play style.

Just got my copy. I haven't played a Souls game before. I don't have PS+ at the moment(I mainly play on PC and X1). So I have like no PSN friends. Should be able to get some PS+ next month. Looking forward to playing coop with you all.

P.S. I added my PSN ID to the Spreadsheet

I've become so used to tanking bosses in Dark Souls that I've gone soft. Cleric Beast whooped my ass like six times before I got him. :x

I played a bit of Demon's but gave up. I remember I beat the Tower Knight but kept jumping between levels unable to progress for hours after that.

The progression in this one is a little more straightforward. You shouldn't have to replay any massive parts of the game. Keep an eye out for levers, switches, or doors you can open that loop back around to previous areas. Be slow and cautious and explore everything very thoroughly.

Thanks. And yeah, you're probably right about just accepting death in this game heh.

I saw a video of someone PvPing....and I guess you can use healing items? I'm wondering if a good strategy would just to be NOT to use your healing items so you don't burn through them in a PvP match.

Of course that will mean death, but you won't run through your supply of healing items.

Yeah, that is typical Souls gameplay. You just have to teach yourself to not think of Blood as THAT important. It is important, but not so important as to piss you off.
