I wish I had a gif of her "welcome back" moment in DMC3

Edit: That's how you claim a page.

Since people are having a hard time understanding this:

Main Game:
First half - Nero
Second half - Dante

Vergil Game [EXACTLY like Main Game, but different intro/outro]:
First half - Vergil {replacing Nero}
Second half - Vergil {replacing Dante}

Trish/Lady Game [EXACT,Y like Main Game, but different intro/outro]:
First half - Lady {replacing Nero}
Second half - Trish {replacing Dante}

No I didn't ignore him. His reasoning as to why I should buy the digital version is just plain wrong.

What makes you think it's wrong? Do you think not buying DMC4: SE will make them think they should just try again with another method of release? It's just like what SEGA is doing with Yakuza 5. They're releasing it digitally to gauge interest while also not taking too much of a risk. Refusing to buy it shows that you don't care about the franchise at all. You're just hurting your chances of getting the thing you're demanding.

I wonder if the new characters will have new secret missions? If they rehash the old ones won't Trish need a parry ect.

Since you need to play through the game once to unlock those characters, and the proud/blue/purple orbs potentially carry over to the extra characters, they could just make those secret missions unable to be completed, much like Nero couldn't complete the parry mission when he first encounters it.

Though that would also mean that you couldn't play the extra characters raw. Maybe they'll rework that secret mission so it works for all characters.

Personally, I'll be importing the Japanese version, because I have a preference for physical when possible, but I do want to support the main series in any way I can too, so I'll probably buy a code for the US release and just give it to someone so I'm not stuck with two copies of the same game, I still support the series, and someone gets a free copy of a great game. Win-win for everyone.

I wouldn't be too concerned about somehow making the DMC fan demographic more Japanese focused by importing a copy. A sale is a sale, and Capcom knows that DMC has always sold better in the West.

The problem with only buying digital is that it sends a mixed message. On the one hand, it shows that people want more DMC. On the other hand, it shows that Capcom can get away with cheapo release strategies in the U.S., save money, and not have worry about a loss of sales. It's an unfortunate position for us to be in.

It just so happens that for me, DMC is too important to not support. So, I will. Multiple times. I'll import the e-Capcom Limited Edition, and I'll triple dip on the console/PC releases domestically. And I'll probably buy additional Steam copies for friends. If the release a physical version down the line in the west, I'll dip once again.

One of the worst things about a digital only release is that I can't giveaway more copies of the game since PSN and XBL aren't equipped for gifting.

I still haven't given up hope yet. Message Gregaman and post on Capcom-Unity. Ask questions in the upcoming streams. It's really important to make them understand that going digital only is hurting their bottom dollar. That's the only reason they'd care enough to make the change.

I'd very much prefer to see it all carry over, yeah. It'd significantly help ease the slog of grinding for the last few Proud Souls abilities.

Though I'd also prefer to see the Proud Souls system replaced with something closer to what we saw in DMC3, to be honest. I'm not a fan of the scaling ability costs at all.

I liked the ability to refund skills and redistribute, but otherwise I wasn't a huge fan of the Proud Soul system either.

Yah lol choose your abilities wisely otherwise that last ability will take ages to get...

Yeah, I'm not too big a fan of Proud Souls either.

More or less where I stand, yeah.

Same thing happened with Ace Attorney, and after that debacle, I figured I'd rather support a series I like because I want to see more of it, instead of washing my hands of the situation and risking Capcom going "Well okay, fuck you then." with the series.

I don't mind the ability to do that, but really the game should just make every upgrade useful so it doesn't feel like there are 'wrong' choices.

Do ECapcom ship to US?

No. You'd have to go through a third party or a proxy.

That would be best, and honestly I think that DMC design subscribes to this mentality pretty well. The problem is that a move might not be useful in the way that you want it to be upon purchase.

That's likely what I may end up doing.

...Provided that I don't become weak and buy the PSN version in case my import of the e-capcom version from Nin-nin takes too long and I want to play as soon as possible.

True - I'd just prefer the sort of design where you adapt to whichever upgrades you make (and in that sense, that every upgrade should feel fun). Basically, newbies should be like "oh cool I can do this now" and feel happy about *any* upgrade in that sense.

In practice that often hasn't been the case (see for example the massive importance of getting Stinger and Air Raid early on in DMC1, or the importance of getting e.g. Max-Act and full Blue Rose charge for Nero really early in DMC4) but I do feel that DMC3 (mostly) did a good job with it (though upgrading your guns first would probably be a mistake of course).

Where will you preorder?

There is really no point trying to explain to people like you.

I haven't decided yet. If I can find a cheap enough proxy, I might just go through them. Others in the thread have used nin-nin and they come recommended.

If you're not interested in getting the big LE bundle, you have more options. You could go AmiAmi.com.

Anyone do an analysis of Lady's move set and arsenal from the trailer? After watching it again, it looked like she had a revolver when fighting against Dante at the 1:03 mark.

there is no physical version announced for the west?

will the japanese version have everything translated?

I believe Capcom games always displayed whatever language your console is running for text. The Japanese voice is an addition to the game, you can still play with English voice.

Lady got even less screentime than Trish, unfortunately. She has DMC3 Hysterics, Gunstinger, and what looks like a new charge shot/recoil shot that she could use for feints/retreat.

since Itsuno is directing DMC 4: SE

do you think he would also be directing DMC 5 as well? can he direct both at the same time?

The next title would be in the very extreme early stages of development. DMC4SE is 90% done. Itsuno will probably be switching gears to his next project soon enough, and that could be DMC5. They don't actually need to be much off the ground to make an announcement.

Also, DMC4SE's development could help fuel Itsuno and provide a testing ground for ideas that would go into the framework of a potential DMC5.

There's a petition for a western retail release.

iirc DMC4 sold much more in the west than Japan.

doubt this is going anywhere, unfortunately,77 people so far.
It would need far more exposition, social networks, a thread here, etc.

But i really dont get this decision, why not release in limited quantities, at least.

Heck games like Revelations 2 and DmC go against this strategy.

I would imagine so. DMC4:SE comes off as a smaller scale project, and Itsuno gave a hint that was he being kept busy with multiple projects, anyway.

Could be DmC:DE's sales that made their decision.. Don't know though...

Unfortunately, I imagine it's the result of REmake HD selling extremely well and being digital only.

Even so, I would've imagined that if they wanted to make some special packs that would've been sold only through Capcom's website (like the steel books they made for MvC3 years ago), that might have gone over well and still would have cut out the brick-n-mortar middlemen in the West.

But alas...
