Made my way into the
sewers
, found the
badge,
bought a
saw spear
. Am starting to fall in love with the game!

The regain system is addicting - constantly evaluating whether or not the risk/reward of attacking to steal health or retreating to use a blood vial.

Can't play til later tonight, really hoping I can take down two bosses and
get enough insight to buy the small resonant bell
.

I need a shield, really really bad.

I just got to the
Forbidden Woods
last night. The impressions of that area in this thread are not making me excited to go back. :-/

Anyone know the name of the big great sword and where to get it?

Ludwig's Holy Blade

You can obtain it by going right from the Cathedral and going up the tower to find a badge in a treasure chest.

You can then purchase the sword for 20k from the vendor in Hunter's Dream.

It's amazing.

Oh, right! I think that door only opens when the world gets darker, it's closed at first. About that area, did you open up the door midway through the shaft you have to fall through? Some neat stuff there.
Oh really?! I'll have to check again.

I only played a few hours last night but I played both Demon's and Dark Souls. I would say the difficulty seems on par so far with the previous titles. There is no hand-holding here. Plus the new combat mechanics throw enough of a wrench into the mix. I used to be a turtle player that used his shield extensively in Demon's Souls. But there is no shield anymore so I have had to adjust how I approach mobs.

I have died like 7-8 times in just a few hours from many different sources. Snipers that take off chunks of your health while you are fighting mobs, big strong guys that I accidentally challenged too soon, walking into a boss fight at level 10, etc. There is no kid gloves from From if that is a concern.

I've finished Demon's Souls, but had to stop my Dark Souls playthrough due to lack of time after defeating several boses. I found Demon' s Souls to be more difficult so far.
At first I was gonna finish Dark Souls and then get BB, but then i realized that I used to rely on shields a lot in souls games and that in BB it ain't gonna fly. So my plan is to beat BB first and then go back to DS and fix my build and play more aggresively by relying on quick movents and not big ass shields. I think BB would be a great traninig ground for that.

Right, but if I save it for his last form, can I still use it multiple times?

Anyone knows if the hand latern sold in Hunter's dream really is infinitely consumable? And how useful is it?

Also it seems like most trick weapons have quite a balanced strength/skill requirement and scaling, so is it still better to focus on strength or skill like the previous games or spread them out a little more evenly?

Yes its infinite. It helps for darkly lit areas and you can have it equipped with no issues.

well...
it's huge and it can be quite difficulty to find your way around and the shortcuts.
I still enjoyed it though!

That feeling when you beat the hooded axe guy at the beginning = :)

That feeling when you realize there is absolutely nothing in that area he's in = :(
I got a trophy for killing him but that was due to the item he dropped.

I'd honestly say it was luck, I was either away from him 50% of the time, or near his feet 50% of the time.
When I was at his feet I'd hit, dodge, hit, dodge.

Just rinse repeat is how it worked for me.
When I am at his feet I get hit all the time.
By his lashes or his legs..

It's interesting, but halfway through my first night with the game something clicked. Conceptually, I knew I wasn't playing Dark Souls. The similarities can still trip up your muscle memory though and the way you approach the game definitely can too.

Then, after getting torn apart by angry villagers for the dozenth time, I just had a sudden thought that completely changed the way I play: I'm not a knight anymore. I'm a hunter. They keep saying it, time to act like it.

My eyes narrowed and fair fights were fucking off the menu. No more politely waiting to be seen so my enemies and I can square off like I'm clumsily asking my first crush to dance at prom. Ambushes. Traps. Dirty tricks. Guerilla hit and run tactics. Tracking enemies from afar, waiting till they're alone or vulnerable, then pouncing. In this mindset, I started wiping out whole groups of the little maggots before they knew there was danger. Don't let them breathe, don't give them time to think or fight back or call for help. Hit them hard, fast, and repeatedly until they are dead. Depending on your regain state at the end of the fight, until well after they're dead.

This seems to be working for now. I feel like this mindset is Bloodbourne's version of when you figure out that you should keep your shield up even if you don't think anyone is around while exploring in Dark Souls.

Is that the same place we were talking about? The tower with the wheelchair machine gun guys? I only found a closed door at the very top of the tower. I'll have to check again.

Right, but if I save it for his last form, can I still use it multiple times?

I don't believe so, no. Quite honestly, I'm not sure I see how you'd have time to use it during his 2nd form since he moves so much faster.

Fair enough! I'm determined to beat that
executioner
right as you come in before venturing deeper into the level.

For example summoning and being summoned I suppose. How about signs, bloodstains or other pasive multiplayer mechanics (I don't know which new additions the game has).
I would assume you would have to play offline, so those wouldn't be there. But I am only guessing.
What's the next recommended armor set after the hunter set you can buy early on?

I'm still using it and I'm like 18 hours in. :(

No equip load means there's not a lot of truly great armor.

I pop it like the second he transforms.

URGENT HELP needed in forbidden woods !!!

I think I'm right before a boss? I beat two pig monsters then got access to a stairwell that goes up and down. down looks like a boss room, up took me to an area to find another rune. Before I go to the boss it seems that I'm SOOO far away from a lantern and I should equip some poison runes. The only lantern I got is at the start of the level right before the bridge. Is there another?!

I've beaten the first boss
Cleric Beast
and made it to the next area,
the Sewers
. Am I supposed to have run into NPCs yet? The only ones I've met are behind doors or in the Hunter's Dream.

Random: I don't find the load times all that bad. By the time I'm done texting and checking this OT I'm respawned.

I think I'm still waiting for this click. Right now I'm just dodging and looking for openings.

Thats the only latern, but there's two important shortcuts to open that make the trek much easier. Make sure you open those as this boss fight is pretty tough.
